Mrs. Young graduated from Byng High School and received a bachelor's degree in counseling from East Central University in Ada. She was a member of Hammond Heights church of Christ and was a lifelong resident of Ada. She worked for many years as a counselor for Southern Oklahoma Mental Health Facility. She also was the director for the Ada Battered Women Center and a volunteer with CASA. Survivors include her husband, Harold Young of the home; two step sons, Marcus and his wife Marya Young of Welliington, Kans., and David Young of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Lea Brown and her husband Richard of Ada, and Ashley Young of the home; and seven grandchildren, Connor and Logan Williams and Chantel and Richard Jr. Brown all of Ada, Kaelyn Williams of Chula Vista, Calif., Jordyn and Chloy Young of Wellington, Kan.. She married Nelson Woodcock on June 3, 1935, in Stonewall. Mr. Woodcock died Oct. 1, 1997. Mrs. Woodcock was a homemaker for many years and was a lifelong resident of the area. She attended Pauls Valley schools and graduated from Pauls Valley High School in 1941. She married Skeet Lawrence Gregory in Pauls Valley on Feb. 20, 1943. Early in their marriage they traveled with a survey crew throughout Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. They also lived in Anadarko for a few years then moved to Pauls Valley, where her husband worked for the USDA Soil Conservation Service. This job moved them to Chickasha, Lindsay and Okmulgee, but most of their married life was spent with the SCS in Ada. He died Oct. 5, 2009, at Cleveland, Okla. He grew up in the Pecan Grove area south of Ada. He attended Latta High School and graduated with the class of 1952. He then attended Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater where he met Waneta Kramer. They were married in the Maramec United Methodist Church on Dec. 19, 1952. He began working for American Airlines in 1956 and three months later was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He served stateside and upon his discharge he returned to Tulsa and worked for American Airlines as an avionics engineer and inspector for a total of 39 years, retiring in 1995. He farmed and ranched east of Maramec for 37 years. He was a member of Maramec United Methodist Church, Maramec Senior Center, the Transport Workers Union Local 514, and the Maramec Fire Department. Survivors include his wife, Waneta Fulton, Maramec; two children, Eugenia Fulton, and Allen Fulton and his wife Debbie, all of Maramec; grandson, Paden Fulton, Maramec; a sister, Evelyn Kuffel and her husband, Cy, Stillwater; two nephews, one niece, one great nephew, one great-great nephew, and many friends. They were married for 60 years. He later married Bernice Christesen Colbert on Oct. 22, 2003 in Ada. Mr. Patrick was the Coal County Road Foremen from 1952 until 1955. In 1955, he was employed with the State Highway Dept. until 1962. He was a self-employed water well driller, plumber, carpenter, auto mechanic and oil and mineral landman. He was also a lifelong rancher. Mr. Patrick was a member of Central Church of Christ. He helped in establishing the Chickasaw Sr. Citizens Center in Ada where he volunteered from 1980 until two weeks ago. He received “Volunteer of the Year” numerous times by the state and was recognized by Gov. Bill Anoatubby. Mr. Patrick served in the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific as a Radar Technician. He served form June 1, 1944 until Jan. 25, 1946. He died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009 in Davis. He and Betty Jo Green were married on Feb. 7, 1948 in Gainesville, Texas. She preceded him in death on Oct. 7, 1996. Also preceding him in death was one son, Joe Dale Saunders in November 2005; two sisters, Irene West and Patsy Garland. As a young man in 1944 he joined the US Navy where he served aboard the USS Mellette APA 156. Mr. Saunders was stationed in the Tokyo Bay at the time of the Japanese surrender. He was also present at Iwo Jima during the historic raising of the US Flag. After returning home from serving his country in May of 1946, Mr. Saunders began working for R.D. Ross at the Southern Rock Asphalt Co. In Dougherty. He later worked in the oilfield for the Preston Carter Drilling Co. of Davis. In 1962, Mr. Saunders went to work for the Dolese Bros. Company. He worked as the Superintendent of the Stone Deparment. With this position, he was required to travel around to all the Dolese Crushers where he kept check and control on quality. In 1992, after 30 years of service to the company, Mr. Saunders retired. He bacame employed with the Chickasaw Nation where he worked as a Customer Service Specialist at the Treasure Valley Microtel in Davis. In 2006, Bo received the Guest Service “Hero” Award, which is a national award given by Microtel, and in 2007 he was again awarded the “Hero” award by the Oklahoma Lodging Association. Mr. Saunders served on the City Council and Planning Board for the City of Davis during the 1980s and again on the Planning Board in the early 1990s. Other positions that he held included Davis Board of Education from 1997-2007, Murray County Fair Board and the Arbuckle Memorial Hospital Board for 20 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Davis. He attended Center, Bebee and Wilson elementary schools and graduated from Vanoss High School. He served in the U.S. Army from July 9, 1953, to June 3, 1955. He was trained and assigned as a helicopter mechanic, serving in Korea and Japan as a department supervisor in a helicopter overhaul depot. He attended Oklahoma State University and received an Associate Degree in Electronics in 1957, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics in 1961, a Master of Science Degree in Technical Education in 1965, and his Doctorate Degree in Higher Education in 1971. Dr. Briggs was an electronics technician at Sandia Corporation, a research and development laboratory in Albuquerque, N.M., from 1957- 1958. From 1961 until 1963, he taught electronics at U.S. Grant High School in Oklahoma City, from 1963 until 1965, was assistant professor and head of electronics department at the OSU branch campus in Oklahoma City and from 1965 until 1966, served as the assistant state supervisor of technical education with the State Department of Vocational Technical Education. In 1966 until 1968, he was field director of Oklahoma State University/Ford Foundation funded project in Brazil establishing post-secondary technical education throughout the country. From 1968- 1970, he was assistant professor of technical education in the School of Occupational and Adult Education at OSU. From 1970-1972, served as the chief of career education personnel development at the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C. and from 1972-1980, was the professor and director of the School of Occupational and Adult Education at Oklahoma State University. From 1980 until 1996, he was the principal education specialist with The World Bank in Washington, D.C. During his professional career, Dr. Briggs served on regional and national advisory committees and in several professional organizations. Following his retirement and returning to the Ada area, he assumed leadership positions with Pontotoc County Retired Educators, Vanoss Education Enrichment Foundation, First United Methodist Church, and Ada Lions Club. He married Mary Ann Griffith on June 14, 1958, in Ada. George Carson officiating. Burial follows at Hillside Cemetery. Mr. Hall died Wednesday Oct. 28, 2009, at an Edmond hospital. He was born Jan. 1, 1930, at Wayne to James Noah Hall Sr. and Lena Batt Hall. Mr. Hall attended Wayne schools where he lettered three years in baseball, graduating in 1947. He enrolled at the University of Oklahoma where he studied pharmacy for three years before enlisting in the United States Navy. He served during the Korean Conflict before being honorably discharged in January 1955. He returned to OU where he graduated with a pharmacy degree. He operated REXALL Drug Store in Purcell for his father, James Sr. until 1961. Mr. Hall then began working as director of pharmacy for Valley View Hospital in Ada and remained so until his retirement in February 1993. He then worked part time in relief retail pharmacy. He operating the family owned ranch, Half-Circle JH, south of Wayne. He served in the United States Naval Reserve, Medical Service Corp and retired in July 1977, at the rank of lieutenant commander. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Shriners. He was of the Episcopal faith. Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lena Hall; and a sister, Betty Baggett. Survivors include his sons, James Noah Hall III, Cordell, Patrick M. Hall, Edmond, and Kelly M. Hall, St. Paul, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Ashlyn, Lena, Katie, Alexander, Caroline, Jared, Andrew and Austin; and many other family members and friends. Mr. Lamb lived in this area all his life. Mr. Lamb was a dairy farmer until his retirement. He was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith. He married Elaine Alexander on June 16, 1974. Ms. Finch died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at her home in Ada. She was born March 20, 1947, in Chula Vista, Calif., to Ben F. Finch and Betty Jennelle Rose Finch. She graduated from Ada High School in 1966. Ms Finch worked as an office manager for Equitable Life Assurance Company for 35 years in both Fresno, Calif. and Charlotte, N.C. Upon her retirement in April 2006 She returned to Ada. Ms. Finch was a member of Ada Elks Lodge 1640 and assisted her sister, Karen Hazard, in the Elks Drug Awareness Program. She was active with the local CASA program, serving the abused and neglected children in Pontotoc County. She volunteered as special projects coordinator, organizing and managing all fundraising events. She was also a child advocate for CASA on numerous child abuse cases and was chosen Pontotoc County Child Advocate of the Year in 2008 and was nominated this year for state Child Advocate of the Year. She was preceeded in death by her parents and two brothers, Charles Finch and Phillip Finch. Tim Tate and Billy Bundy will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Mrs. Bundy died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at a Shawnee nursing home. She was born Jan. 29, 1916, near Stratford to John and Ollie Burke Dansby. She attended Byford school near Stratford and also Stratford High School. She lived in the Ada area most of her life, moving to Seminole 23 years ago. She married Cleo M. Bundy Feb. 7, 1932. He died Nov. 21, 1987, at Ada. Mrs. Bundy was a homemaker, a quilt maker, and a past-president of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was also a Sunday School teacher for many years. Mrs. Bundy attended Emmanuel Fellowship Church in Seminole. Survivors include three daughters, Clarene Land, Oklahoma City, Barbara Bess, Seminole, and Nelma Groves, Shawnee; a daughter-in-law, Novella Bundy, Ada; two sons, Billy Bundy and wife Sandra, Ada and Mark Bundy and wife Cammie, Shawnee; 12 grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Bundy in July 1999, and a great-grandson, Jared Bundy Oct. 10, 1988. Mr. Furness died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009 at a Stonewall nursing home. He was born May 16, 1922, in Kinde, Mich., to Thomas and Olive Souva Furness. He completed the ninth grade before he had to delay his education to work the family farm. He married Alice Humphreys in June 1943. He later married Treda Harris Reese on Dec. 31, 1959, in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Furness had various occupations including small businessman, truck driver, carpenter, ranch hand, mechanic and environmental refuse/recycle expert. He was a former member of the “Michigan Hayride” of Flint, Mich., playing harmonica. He volunteered as a Little League Coach, leading his team to the Tri-County Pony League Championship trophy in 1976. He also played and coached adult Blooper Ball. He was a member of the Union Valley Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Treda; his children, Doreen Owens and husband Dave, Dearborn, Mich., Edwin Furness, Louisville, Ky., Brenda Papkey and husband Dick, Owendale, Mich., Markus Furness and wife Renae, Fairbanks, Alaska, Lorena Shelton and husband Jerry, Stonewall, Ricky Reese and wife Suki, Marlow, Billy Reese and wife Toni, Sebewaing, Mich., Bennie Reese and wife Doreen, Bad Axe, Mich., and Allen Reese and wife Dana, Achille; a sister, Margaret Thane, Caro, Mich.; and a brother, Cecil Furness, Cottonton, Ala.; 42 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Coleen, an infant son, Steven, and a daughter, Sharon.
