Chowning, 78, went to be with Jesus Oct. 4, 2003 and joined his wife, Kate of 55 years. He was born Nov. 18, 1924 to Robert Lynn and Maudie Florence (Barker) Chowning in Seminole, OK and grew up in Ada, OK. He graduated from Ada H.S. and joined the army in 1943 serving as a Sgt. and Squad Leader in France and Germany and helped liberate Holland. He received the Bronze Star Medal and a Purple Heart for wounds he suffered in Lucherburg, Germany. He was honorably discharged on his birthday in 1945. He was a member of the VFW and the American Foreign Legion. He graduated from O.U. with a degree in Bus. Adm. and was an avid Sooner football fan. Eldon married the love of his life, Kathryn Ann Lowe, on Oct. 26, 1946, They moved to Muskogee, OK and raised 6 children. He retired from the OK Tax Comm. After retirement, he was a volunteer for S.W. Med. Ctr. and loved working in the E.R. where he brought smiles to patients and the staff with his many stories, jokes & 'Eldonisms'. He was an active and faithful member of Howard Memorial Baptist Church where he served as deacon, choir member, and treasurer. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Kate, and 1st daughter, Nona Carol. Surviving sister is Millie Morgan. Surviving children are Lynn & Nancy Chowning, Dwight & Charlotte Chowning, Debra & Jim Mooring, Theresa & Randy Rhodes, Bruce & Marlene Chowning, Karen & Greg Gosselin. Grandchildren are Chris, Scott & Courtney, Jennifer & Steve Cooper, Derek, Sara, Candice, Danny, Andy, Wade, David, Mary, Valerie, Bobby, Kathryn and Stephen. 2 great-grandchildren are Mackenzie and Jordan. Family will be at the Bill EISENHOUR Funeral Home Mon., Oct. 6, 4-7 p.m. Services will be 2 p.m. Tues, Oct 7 at Howard Memorial Bapt. Church with burial at Sunny Lane Cemetery.
