"Buck" Rainey, 83, of Tishomingo will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Tishomingo. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Dr. Rainey passed away on Thursday, March 19th, in a local hospital after an extended illness. Dr. Rainey was born on July 18, 1926, in Oklahoma City to Laurance Rainey and Violet Burns Rainey. He spent his early years in Hugo, Oklahoma and served in the United States Navy in the Western Pacific aboard an attack transport from 1944 until 1946. After the war, he entered Southeastern State College in Durant, Oklahoma, where he met and married Rosalva, his beloved wife of 60 years. He was active in the Boy Scout organization for many years and received many honors for his service. He became a 32 degree Mason at the age of 23. He was an avid fan of western movies of the 40's and 50's. He authored many histories of films of that period and was acquainted with, and wrote biographies of many movie stars of that era. Dr. Rainey retired in 1992 from East Central State University in Ada, Oklahoma as a Professor of Business Education after a long career in public education. His academic achievements included, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science degrees, Master of Education and Master of Business Education and a Doctorate in Education. He was paralyzed by an auto accident in 1991 and suffered serious health problems the remainder of his life. His family sincerely appreciates the gracious and loving care given him by all those entrusted with his care during those years. Dr. Rainey is survived by his wife Rosalva, of the home; son Rex and wife Debbie of Midland, Texas, son Tim and daughter, Skylar of Tishomingo and son Layne and partner Mike of Cucamonga, Calif.; two grandsons, Flash and Gunter and numerous friends, extended family and former colleagues.
