All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Little Cemetery--Little OK *Ada Evening News, Ada, OK, Pontotoc County Wednesday, March 25, 2009 CARL SHIVERS Services have been set for Carl David Shivers for 1:00 March 25 at the Stratford Free Will Baptist Church with graveside memorial services at 4:00 at Little Cemetery on Highway 99 in Seminole County. Carl was born on September 14, 1925 to Arthur and Cora Shivers in Okfuskee County, Paden, Oklahoma. Carl went to meet the Lord on Monday, March 23, at his home. Carl served in the infantry of the United States Army during World War II from 1943-1946, achieving the rank of one of the youngest first sergeants. While in Germany he received numerous medals and commendations, including two bronze service stars. He married Myrtle Watkins on June 26, 1946 and to this union was born four children. God called him into the ministry in August, 1948 to preach the word of God for the Free Will Baptist Denomination. During that time, he has pastored twelve churches which included Paden, Vanzant, Prague, Sante Fe, Calvin, Stratford, Springhill, Gaar Corner, Mustang, campground, Cedar Grove, and Memorial of Sulphur. He helped organize and start three churches, Prague, Okemah, and Stroud. He has enjoyed preaching for Free Will Baptists and was a staunch believer in the Bible. Currently he was a member of the Stratford Free Will Baptist Church. Along with pastoring and preaching, he was a farmer, rancher, oil field pumper, auctioneer, and real estate salesman. The ministry was always first in his life. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Myrtle, a daughter Janet Elmore and husband Charles, three sons, Fred Shivers and wife Debora, David Shivers and his wife Teresa, Phillip and his wife Mary. Ten grandchildren, Jeff Elmore and wife Amy, Julie Savage and husband Paul, Jennifer Cary and husband Leroy, Tracy Shivers, Karie Brown and husband Dustin, Kristy Null and husband Jason, Derek Shivers, Tyson Shivers, Abbra Shivers, and Molly Shivers. Eight great-grandchildren, Riley, Garrett, and Cody Elmore, Cade, Brodie, and Brynn Savage, and Dylan and Kynzee Brown. Two sister-in-laws, Wanda Shivers and Lila Jane Miller, a brother-in-law, Wes Watkins, other relatives and a host of friends.
