TODD July 19, 1927 - December 23, 2009 Ada, Oklahoma He was born July 19, 1927 to Ben H. and Myrtle Nancy Todd in Ada, Oklahoma. Charles was a graduate of Ada High School and attended East Central State College as well as the University of Oklahoma. On December 12, 1948, he married the love of his life, Betty Jane Collins of Konawa. She preceded him in death in 1991. Charles was one of six boys who grew up in the construction industry with his Father and was a partner in Todd Construction Company, later known as B.H. Todd & Sons (General Commercial Contractors). After his Father’s death in 1959, the company was known as B.H. Todd Son’s — General Commercial/Industrial Contractors and Charles served as President and Chief Executive Officer until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the Associated General Contractors of America for over 25 years. Under Charles’ direction, B.H. Todd Son’s worked in the 4-state area of Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Kansas where they constructed a wide variety of commercial buildings and public institutions. In Ada, numerous buildings and institutions were constructed by B.H. Todd Son’s. Some notable ones are the First Presbyterian Church Sanctuary, the First Lutheran Church and the Oklahoma State Bank. Many buildings upon the East Central University Campus were constructed by B.H. Todd Son’s which include the Administration building, Briles Hall and a complete renovation of the Science building where his father worked as a carpenter during its initial construction after coming to Oklahoma from Missouri in 1908. The Norris Stadium West bleachers and related Football Facility renovations were also part of the work conducted by Todd on the East Central Campus. In the early days of the Wal-Mart Corporations existence, B.H. Todd Son’s constructed 17 Wal-Mart Stores within a 27-month time frame. During such time, Charles had the pleasure of working with Sam Walton. Charles was a longtime member of the Ada Kiwanis club and previously served on its Board of Directors as well as the Salvation Army Advisory Board and the Baptist Retirement Village Board. He was also a longtime member of the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce. In 1938, Charles joined the First Baptist Church of Ada, where he faithfully served side by side with his wife Betty form over 65 years. During his years of membership, he was an Ordained Deacon of the Church and served on numerous committees. He was also a United States military veteran having served in the latter days of World War II and was a combat veteran of the Korean Conflict during 1951 and 1952. He joined the Oklahoma National Guard in 1946 and received a direct battlefield commission during the Korean Conflict. Charles was promoted in every grade/rank from private to Colonel during his 38 years of military service. He was awarded many citations and medals such as the Combat Infantryman Badge, WWII Victory Medal and The Korean Summer and Winter Campaign Medals. He received numerous accommodations from every Senior Field Commander he served under including those from 4 different Adjutant Generals and 3 governors of the State of Oklahoma. He was a graduate of the Basic and Advanced Officers Infantry School of Ft. Benning, Georgia and the Command and General Staff College of Ft. Riley, Kansas. During his long lengthy Army career he commanded 4 separate company sized units and 3 Battalions. Upon retirement from the military, he was a Task Force Commander for all supply and support troops in the Oklahoma National Guard Headquartered in Oklahoma City. He was a life member of the National Guard Association of Oklahoma and the National Guard Association of the United States. He proudly served for over 25 years as a member of the 45th Infantry Division Association and the 180th Infantry Association. After his retirement, he was actively involved as a member of the Oklahoma Committee for Employers Support for the National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Charles is survived by two sons — Charles “Allen” Todd, Jr., of Ada and Patrick “Shawn” Todd of Dallas, Texas. Three grand children — Patrick, Philip and Caroline Todd all of Dallas, Texas. One sister — Marcella Todd Cochrane of Shawnee, Oklahoma and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 2 p.m. within the Chapel of Criswell Funeral Home in Ada, Oklahoma.
