Mr. Strickland died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 at Carl Albert Indian Health Facility in Ada. He was born Aug. 22, 1978 in Dallas, Texas to Richard Dewayne Strickland Sr. and Laveda Tiger. Mr. Strickland moved to Ada in 2004 from Wewoka. He worked in the maintenance department in aviation at a local airport in Shawnee for many years. Mr. Strickland is survived by his mother, Laveda Tiger of Ada; one son, Cristian Strickland of Shawnee; two daughters, Alexus and Camery Strickland both of Ada; one brother, Jonathan Strickland of Ada; one sister, Kerrie Fuentes and her husband Fredy of Ada; his grandmother, Christine Tiger of Ada, three uncles, Joseph, Ray, and Anthony Tiger; and two aunts, Carolyn Lewis and Ashley M. Mr. Teters died Monday, March 1, 2010, at Sulphur. He was born Oct. 9, 1927, at Wapanucka to Jimmie and Alice Tyree Teters. He grew up in the Ada area and graduated from Byng High School. He served in the Army for two years during World War II and then returned to Stratford where he began his banking career at Oklahoma State Bank in 1946. In 1966, he was president and chairman of the board at First National Bank in Stratford which later became First American Bank. While in Stratford, Mr. Teters served as mayor from 1974 to 1986. He was a member of Ada Kiwanis Club and Stratford Booster Club. In 1987, Mr. Teters went to work at First Heritage Bank, which is now Landmark Bank, in Wynnewood. He later transferred to Davis where he retired in December 2000. Mr. Teters moved to Sulphur in 1995. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sulphur. He and Wanda Turner were married in 1949 in Ada. She died in 2002. On Jan. 14, 2003, he and Wanda Stinson were married in Sulphur. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Teters, Sulphur; two sons and their spouses, Mike and June Teters, Yukon, and Jimmie Carroll and Pauline Teters, Frisco, Texas; a sister, Lorene Duncan, Ada; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; seven nephews; a niece; and a stepdaughter and spouse, Carolyn and Rob Giustina, Lake Tahoe, Calif. She received her GED and also attended the Byng Vocational-Technical Licensed Practical Nurse Program. Mrs. Clark was a LPN employed with Valley View Regional Hospital for six years and a longtime member of Southwest Church of Christ. He later owned and operated a service station in Ada, and also did boat engine repair until his retirement. He married Billie Jean Austin Sept. 6, 1947, at Clovis, N.M. She died Dec. 18, 2003. Survivors include two sons, Mack A. Smith and wife Joyce, Stonewall, and Jeffrey K. Smith and wife Jill, Warrensburg, Mo.; two granddaughters, Amy Smith, Oklahoma City, and Jaclyn Smith, Lenexa, Kan.; two sisters, Jeanette Mitchell, El Reno, and Cherrye Lucas, Annapolis, Md; and other extended family members. Mr. Walker was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Ada and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Esther Walker, of the home. BILL COLE ADA - Dr. Billy Smith Cole was called home to be with the Lord on March 10, 2010. Dr. Cole was married to the love of his life, Sondra Lee Lackey Cole for 52 years. They have five sons, Brent (Cindy) of Coppell, TX; Page (Ronda) of Owasso; Rhys (Debra) of El Reno; Wade (Kecia) of Oklahoma City; and Drew (Jami) of Duncan. He adored his 11 grandchildren, Brycen, Erin, Nathan, Benjamin, Jarrod, Kail, Kort, Londyn, Fallyn, Cody and Keely. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his sisters Rheta (Don) Mankin and Ouilda (Gary) Owen in Texas and brother Arla (Shirley) Cole of McAlester. Dr. Cole enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren; attending their sporting events, livestock shows, dance recitals, birthday parties and the annual family reunion at the lake. He grew up in Stuart, OK and graduated from McAlester High School. After graduating from Eastern Oklahoma State College with an Associate's Degree he continued his education at East Central University in Ada, receiving his Baccalaureate Degree in 1959. He received his Masters Degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1965, and conducted post graduate studies at the OU Health Sciences Center and the Oklahoma Biological Research Station. Dr. Cole earned his Doctorate in Education from Oklahoma State University in 1973. His personal academic achievements include membership in Phi Delta Kappa, Phi Kappa Theta fellow, Oklahoma Academy of Sciences, National Science Foundation grants, and the Sigma Xi Research Society. Dr. Cole's life long career in education began with teaching high school biology courses at Putnam City and then Purcell high schools. In 1967, he joined the faculty of El Reno Junior College as the Life Sciences instructor. He was promoted to the Chairman of the Science Department while teaching at ERJC and was again promoted to the Assistant Dean of Instruction position in 1975. In 1976, Dr. Cole was named President of El Reno Junior College, now Redlands Community College. During his career in El Reno, the campus grew from one building to seven along with the addition of many new programs and relationships with the business community of El Reno. The Bill S. Cole Technology Center was named in his honor in 1989 to recognize his dedication and service. Dr. Cole returned to his alma mater, East Central University in Ada, OK as President in 1989 and served until his retirement on June 30, 2006. While at East Central, he led the campus through the technology revolution and oversaw 21 construction, renovation, and expansion projects including a new Library, a student University Center, and the new Fine Arts Center. Under his leadership, 16 endowments of academic chairs, professorships, and lectureships were established. He was instrumental in acquiring nearly $100 million in grants for ECU and oversaw the growth of the ECU Foundation from almost $2 million to more than $20 million in assets. ECU is the only Oklahoma university that has hosted all seven TRIO programs. The University Center was recently named in his honor as the "Bill S. Cole University Center". His experience and passion for education influenced the many academic organizations that benefited from leadership roles that he filled in the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, the Council of Presidents, NCAA, Council of Presidents, Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (President), President's Council, Board of Regents of Oklahoma Colleges (President, Past President), East Central University Foundation, board of directors, Council of North Central Community Junior Colleges Association (Past first Vice President and President Elect), Oklahoma Bi-State Athletic Association (Past Secretary and Treasurer), Higher Education Alumni Council of Oklahoma, Oklahoma Association of Community and Junior Colleges, the American Association of Community and Junior Colleges, and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Dr. Cole's tireless efforts were acknowledged by his peers with the Excellence in Education award by Seminole State College and as a Distinguished Alumni of Eastern Oklahoma State College. Additional honors include being named to the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame and the Oklahoma Education Hall of Fame. National awards included the Distinguished Leadership Award from the Council of Opportunity in Education for service in federal TRIO programs. In addition to his service to Secondary and Collegiate education, Dr. Cole has also participated in many civic arenas. He served as President of the Ada Sunrise Rotary Club and was recognized as a Paul Harris fellow, the highest honor bestowed by Rotary Club. He was named outstanding citizen of the Year of El Reno in 1981, and represented Oklahoma at the national level as the Oklahoma Economic Development Volunteer of the Year in 1986. In 1988 he was selected as the Volunteer of the Year for the Department of Human Service Mentally Handicapped Division and as a Friend of the Family by the Oklahoma Home Economics Association in 1994. Although he retired from the university setting in 2006, he continued his contribution to education through obtaining TRIO grants for various colleges across Oklahoma. Dr. Cole continued working toward his dream that every man, woman, and child be given an opportunity to continue their education past high school, whether technical or collegiate. He committed his life to helping others help themselves, until a battle with cancer kept him from continuing his life's passion. She was born May 22, 1919, near Covington, Tenn., to Racy Jackson Hazlerig and Ruie Viola Eaker Hazlerig. The family moved to Barry, Texas, when she was still a baby. She grew up during the Great Depression. Her parents made their living by renting farms, mostly in West Texas (Vernon, Chillicothe, Medicine Mound) and working the crops as sharecroppers. Mrs. Zamudio was Salutatorian of her graduating high school class at Medicine Mound, Texas. Her parents sent her to Ada, Okla., to attend college. She married David Bernard Zamudio Sept. 14, 1943, in Ada. He died in 1987. They moved to Oklahoma City and later returned to Ada in 1963 and opened Zamudio's Mexican Restaurant. After retiring, she became an artist. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Ada and served in different offices there, including president, and transferred to the chapter in Prosper when she moved there in 1995. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Ada and a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. She became a member of St. David's Episcopal Church of San Antonio in 2006. She lived for several years in Prosper, Texas. She later moved to Tulsa to be near her son and his family. Survivors include her son, Mark Zamudio and his wife Dana, Tulsa; her daughter, Mercedes Zamudio, San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren, Michael, Bonnie, John, Carrie and Stephen; and 10 great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Christopher, David, Anna, Lissa, Heather, Marissa, Jaxson, Gabriel and Sarah; and a sister, Lee Kinlay, Capetown, South Africa. Mr. Crisp retired as a master sergeant with the U.S. Air Force serving from 1948 until May 1969 during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. During his time in the Air Force he was stationed in Japan, Korea, Tennessee, Ardmore, Okla., Washington, D.C., Michigan, Colo., Greenland, Okinawa, Vietnam and retired at Tinker Air Force Base. He spent the last half of his career attached to the Air Force's Office of Special Investigation. After he retired from the military, he was employed with Commercial Credit Corp. in Oklahoma City and Ardmore. Later, he was the vice president and branch manager for Citizens National Bank in Ardmore. From 1989 until retiring in 1994, he served as vice president at BancFirst in Konawa. He was born on April 20, 1930 in Evanston, Wyoming, to Cecil C Riddle and Edith Somerville Riddle. After graduation from Boys' High School in Atlanta, Georgia, he attended Emory University in Atlanta, where he became a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Dr Riddle received his D.D. S. degree from the University of Missouri School of Dentistry in Kansas City Missouri. While there, he became a member of Psi Omega Fraternity. He served as captain from 1953-1955 in the United States Air Force in Korea and Japan. Upon his return, he moved to Dallas to start his dental practice. At the same time, he was a clinical instructor at Baylor University College of Dentistry. A year after moving to Amarillo, TX, he married Jean Wasoff of Dallas in 1958, and the couple lived in Amarillo where he practiced general dentistry for 53 years. His professional memberships include the Texas Dental Society, the Panhandle District Dental Society, and the American Dental Association. Dr. Riddle was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Amarillo. He took an active part as usher and lector. He was a longtime member of the Amarillo Club and the Amarillo Country Club. The Riddles have a long history of supporting both the Amarillo Symphony and the Amarillo Museum of Art. Dr. Riddle has served the Museum of Art as Chairman, Board of Trustees. The Riddles also have lent support to educational institutions, such as Amarillo College and various charities. He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Jean "Martine" of 52 years; one brother-in-law, Harry K. Wasoff, Jr. and wife Bertha; two sisters-in-law, Amy Wasoff and Joanne Wasoff Smith, all of Dallas; three nieces, Amelia Smith, Cherie Wasoff, both of Washington D.C., and Jane Wasoff of Dallas; a nephew, M. She later taught at Wild Horse near Hominy and retired from teaching at the Skiatook school system. She was a longtime member of the Lovelady Baptist Church.
