MORRISON ADA — A Gathering for friends and family of Kent D. Morrison, 70, Ada, will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Jon and Margie Ross, 1701 Kerr Research Drive, Ada. Mr. Morrison died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011 at a local hospital. He was born May 14, 1941 in Ada to Rex. O. and Faye Lollar Morrison. He attended Washington grade school and graduated from Ada High School in 1959. He attended Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas and received a Bachelor of Science degree and Master’s degree from East Central University. Mr. Morrison was a teacher in Westminster, Calif., Albuquerque, N.M. and coached in Las Vegas, Nev. retiring after over 30 years of service. Survivors include two sons, Rick Morrison and his wife DeDee of Ada, and Tom Morrison and wife Debbie of Ada; his three grandchildren, Ashley Morrison, Jordan Morrison and Max Morrison; and two great grandchildren, Gavin and Joey Morrison. He was born Oct. 9, 1950 in Allen. He was raised by his grandparents, Kelcie and Martha Mae Young and his mother, Bobbie Neal Young Shores. He graduated from Allen High School in 1969 and moved to Ada in 1981 from Allen. Mr. Young was a welder in the oilfield industry and was also a self-employed landscaper. He served in the U. S. Army for six years and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include two sons, Kelsey Young and his wife Jamie of Ada, and Kyle Young of Fittstown; his grandson, Riley Young, Ada; two half-brothers, Johnny Shores and his wife Mary of Ada, and Billy Shores of Ada; two half-sisters, Patty Beck, Union Valley, and Carole Grigg and her husband Bobby, Allen; and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. Burial follows at Little Cemetery located north of Seminole. His son Barry “ Cowboy” LanCaster and nephew Colt Kreeger will officiate at the service along with other family members. Mr. LanCaster died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at Ada. He was a former longtime Seminole resident who was born July 3, 1939, in Tecumseh to E.L. and Marie Moutaw LanCaster. While Mr. LanCaster had many jobs in his life, ranging from driving a truck to being a mechanic he spent most of his adult life in the oilfields as one of the first pioneers of drill bit sales. He attended Varnum Schools and later served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He played triple AAA baseball in the Brooklyn Dodger’s Baseball organization in Spokane, Wash., where he played second base. He raised champion coon hunting dogs and was a member of National Coon Hunters Association and co-founder of the New Rivers Coon Hunting Association. He married Cynthia Kay Horton LanCaster in 1988. She died Sept. 26, 2011. He is survived by three sons, Barry “Cowboy” LanCaster of the home in Allen, Brian LanCaster and Brad LanCaster both of Sulphur; three daughters, Roni Hardoin, Sulphur, Donita Barnes and her husband Josh of Ada, Helen McKay and her husband John of Tupelo; and one sister, Lavonne Ware, Seminole; grandchildren Stephen, Micah, Jeremy, Micki, Briana, Shane, Kurtis, Dillon, Tyler, Wesley, Katelyn, Kelsey, Emilee, Alanah and Bradley; and seven great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a brother, LeRoy LanCaster, and daughter, Micki Lynn Sweeten. Burial follows at Memorial Park Cemetery in Ada. Mr. Stewart died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011 at a Tishomingo hospital. He was born July 21, 1952, at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, to Gerald Don and Georgia Jewel McElroy Stewart. Mr. Stewart received a Bachelor of Science in Degree in education with a major in biology at East Central in Ada, a Master of Science Degree in biology at Northeast Louisiana State University in Monroe, and conducted graduate work at the University of Oklahoma and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. In 1983, after several years as an environmental consultant, Mr. Stewart went to Murray State College. Mr. Stewart taught at Murray State College for almost 30 years, starting out as an instructor of biological sciences in 1983. He was later named as professor of biological sciences in 2005. Over the years he also served as the head of the science department, most recently as chair of the department of science and mathematics since 2008. Through the years, Mr. Stewart also taught field courses at the OU Biological Station, East Central, the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos in Cuernavaca (Mexico), and at the Universidad de Leon (Nicaragua). Over the years, Mr. Stewart received several honors and awards. Among those include the National Conservation Award from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1993, the Global Education Faculty Award in 2007, and the 2011 Robert L. Packard Outstanding Educator Award of the Southwestern Association of Naturalists (SWAN). Most recently, Mr. Stewart was instrumental in the college being awarded a nearly $2 million dollar grant to help improve and build the science and mathematics department. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ada, a member of Tishomingo Lion’s Club and Narcotic’s Anonymous. Survivors include two sons, Scott Stewart and his wife Chandra Stewart of Edmond, and Quinn Stewart of the home; two granddaughters, Alex Funderburgh and Addison Stewart, both of Edmond; and his mother, Georgia Stewart of Fittstown; and his fiancé, Holly Gaines of Wilson. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Don Stewart and brother, Brent Dewayne Stewart. Mr. Shores died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at an Allen nursing home. He was born Feb. 2, 1918, in the Globe Community, in Coal County, Okla., to John Harvey and Eva Francis Pittman Shores. He attended Rock Creek and Childs schools. He married Bobbie Nell Young on July 17, 1957. She died April 2, 1974. He later married Imogene Douglas. She died in 2009. Mr. Shores was a farmer and rancher all his life and was of the Baptist faith. She was a Christian who loved the Lord and attended Church all her life. She was thoughtful, funny, witty, compassionate and generous. She was a loyal friend to many. Anita was born October 9, 1931 and died Thursday, Nov 3, 2011 in her home with her loving family by her side. Anita was born to D. C. and Christine Farr and lived in Davis most of her life and left to pursue her teaching degree at USAO, OSU and East Central University. She retired from teaching the 2nd grade at Homer School in 1981. After retirement, she enjoyed many hours of playing bridge and volunteering at Valley View Hospital, the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, Golden Agers and being the best grandmother a grandchild could ask for. Anita was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Donald Farr, her son, Kenny Turner and a grandson, Kris Hunley. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ken Turner; her daughter and son-in-law, Vicki & Kieth Hunley of Norman and a brother Joe Farr of Ruidoso, NM. “Mimi” is survived by 3 grandchildren; Jami Riddle of Oklahoma City, Shane Gurley of Mesquite, TX and Stephanie Duke of Ada and 7 great grandchildren. USN (Retired), 82, Ada, formerly of Choctaw are 10 a.m. Monday at Ada Church of the Nazarene, the Revs. Stephen Nation, Jim Knight and Albert Nelson officiating. A committal service is 2 p.m. Monday at Dustin Cemetery. The family is receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Criswell Funeral Home. Mr. Hamon died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at an Ardmore Veterans Center. He was born Oct. 13, 1929, in Hurricane, W.Va., to Otis Leroy Hamon Sr. and Nora Mae Campbell Hamon. He attended schools in West Virginia, Okmulgee, Okla., and graduated from Dustin High School in 1947. He married Mary Jo Kirkendoll on Dec. 12, 1946, in Okmulgee. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in December 2011. Mr. Hamon was employed in the glass factory owned by his father and later by his uncle, O.C. Hamon in Cedars, Okla. In 1952, Mr. Hamon joined the Naval Reserve in Fort Smith, Ark. Later, he joined the Naval Reserve Guard and served for 22 years. Much of his enlistment was spent in Austin, Texas. After 12 years in Austin, he transferred to the Naval Reserve Center in Oklahoma City. After three years in Oklahoma City, he transferred to Great Lakes Naval Station in Illinois where he retired in 1972. He then moved back to Choctaw, Okla., and was a work crew supervisor during the construction of the Myriad Convention Center in Oklahoma City. Later he was employed with the U.S. Postal Service in Oklahoma City. He was later with a Civil Service Employee for the U. S. Navy. He was a Civil Servant for 18 years. In 1999 he moved to Ada. He was a member of Ada Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include his wife, Mary J. Hamon, of the home; two daughters, Judy Hitsman and her husband Randy of Pottsboro, Texas, and Sharon Davies and her husband Donald of Ada; a brother, Dennis Hamon, McAlester; a brother-in-law, R.C. Kirkendoll and his wife Wanda of Ridgecrest, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Jean Hamon, Vivian, La.; five grandchildren, Shelly Waddell, Kelly and Jason Minter, Amy and David McDaniel, Joe Allen and Mandy Hitsman, and Nicholas and Misty Davies; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Shriley died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2011. He was born Sept. 25, 1923, in Stuart, Okla., to Silas and Lee Shirley, long time residents of Ada, Okla. Mr. Shirley graduated from Haywood High, Haywood, Okla. He left the farm to attend college in Ada, but soon joined the Navy to serve in World War II, achieving the rank of lieutenant. He completed his bachelor’s degree at East Central College and master’s degree at Oklahoma State, both in mathematics. On June 14, 1948, he married Ruth Mushrush, and they settled in South Pasadena, Calif. He worked 17 years for ARCO, pioneering uses of computers, before starting his own business developing project management software. In 1993, Walt and Ruth moved to Idyllwild where he developed a visionary plan to bring Camp Maranatha Christian Conference Center facilities to expectations of the 21st century. He worked to build two lodges and a worship center that was completed in 2010. Mr. Shirley published his first book, What the Bible Says About the Return of Jesus Christ, in 2009. JOHN G. BULMAN MILL CREEK — Funeral services for Dr. John G. Bulman, 82, Mill Creek, are 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9 at the First Baptist Church in Sulphur with Rev. Bill Leveridge officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. Dr. Bulman died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at Oklahoma City. He was born Feb. 12, 1929 in Mill Creek, to H.Z. and Eula (Goodson) Bulman. John grew up in the Mill Creek area, attending school at Fletcher and graduating from Mill Creek High School. After graduation, he served in the Army during the Korean War. He then graduated from East Central University. He obtained his Master of physics degree from Oklahoma State University and later his Doctorate degree in education with an emphasis in physics from OSU. Dr. Bulman taught physics at Tulsa Central High School of one year. He recently completed this 50th year at ECU and retired as academic vice president. After his retirement, he remained at ECU as liaison for remodeling and construction. He and Berta Sue Nelson were married March 30, 1963, in Nash. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mardelle Penner, and a son-in-law, Brad Coyle. He is survived by his wife, Berta Sue Bulman, of Mill Creek; a daughter, Suzanne Coyle, Ada; son and daughter-in-law, David and Kerri Bulman, Midwest City; two sisters, Mattie Warren, Ada, and Grace George of Ada; five grandchildren, Kaitlyn Bulman, Kyle Bulman, Kamryn Bulman, Bree Coyle and J.B. “John Bradson” Coyle. ADA — John Robert Domery Jr. of Ada died Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at a hospital in Shawnee at the age of 76. He was born Nov. 10, 1934 in Albany, N.Y. to John Robert Domery Sr. and Rita George Domery. He graduated college with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and worked many years as the owner and operator of an appliance repair business. He moved to Ada in June 2008 from Las Vegas, N.V. and had served in the United States Marines in Korea, receiving a Purple Heart. He also was involved with the Salvation Army and had been a recruiting Sergeant while in Las Vegas. TURMAN ADA — Delores J. Turman, 75, of Fort Collins, died November 4, 2011 at her residence. Mrs. Turman was born June 7, 1936 in Ada, Oklahoma to Homer L. Tipton and Velma Tipton. Delores married Doyle J. Turman on May 25, 1957 in Davis Oklahoma. Mrs. Turman lived in Ft. Collins for the past 35 years. She was a teacher and owned Turman’s Operation Electric Appliance Center from 1979 – 2001 and owned a travel agency. Delores was actively involved in Soroptimist International of Ft. Collins from 1987 through 1995, and 2003 through 2012. She served in numerous leadership positions, including two terms as president of SI FC: 1991-92 and 2006-07. She generously served as co-treasurer of the AAUW/SIFC Used Book Sale for a number of years. SI FC’s annual Living Her Dream Award was established in 2006 and was inspired by Delores’ 2006-07 theme – Women and Girls Living Their Dreams. The award provides financial support to local women with established goals and plans to live their dreams. She was an active board member of the DMA. Delores was also a Girl Scout Leader. He was born July 5, 1930, to Harold Clifford and Ethel Sibert Macy at Indianapolis, Indiana. After graduating from Broad Ripple High School, Mr. Macy earned a football scholarship to Earlham College. He graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor’s degree in Geology and Religion. He enlisted in the United States Air Force, and spent most of his service time at the Ardmore Air Force Base. He and Betty D. Hendryx were married June 30, 1956. In 1957, Mr. Macy was hired as an Oklahoma City Police Officer, where he patrolled the streets at night and attended Law School at the University of Oklahoma during the day. He received his Juris Doctorate in 1961 and moved to Ada, where he started his legal career as an Assistant County Prosecutor. Mr. Macy also served at the State and Federal levels before finding his true calling. Along the way, he earned a Masters in Public Administration from Indiana University-Perdue University at Indianapolis in 1977. On June 16, 1980 Mr. Macy was sworn in as Oklahoma County District Attorney. For the next twenty-one years, Bob Macy distinguished himself as one of the Nation’s leading prosecutors. He became well known for his trademark, “String Tie” and his aggressive prosecution of violent criminals. Mr. Macy served as the President of the National District Attorney’s Association from 1992 – 1993. He was an outspoken advocate for victims’ rights, while at the same time developing and supporting programs to identify and help troubled youth. He was very proud of the number of young attorneys who began their careers with him and went on to become career prosecutors, judges, and other honorable members of the legal profession. He was also adamant that the success of his office would not have been possible without his dedicated and loyal support staff. Following his retirement, Mr. Macy became a founding member of Cowboy Crisis Fund, an organization he loved dearly and was an active member of at the time of his passing. Mr. Macy was a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of the Oklahoma and Oklahoma County Bar Associations. He was a member of Windsor Hills Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Mr. Macy was preceded in death by his parents, as well as brothers Bill and Richard Macy, and sister Betty Rexroat. Mrs. Cox was born Dec. 4, 1913, in Roff to William Grover Cleveland Dorsey and Nancy Clementine Godbehere Dorsey. Survivors include her three children: Carolyn Fox and husband Harvey of Rixeyville, Virginia, Lowell Ray Cox and wife Jana of Waco, Texas, and Ronnie Cox and wife Liz of Ada, twelve grandchildren, sixteen great- grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cox is preceded in death by her first husband of one year, Frank Caldwell and her second husband of 68 years Raymond Cox; and her six brothers, Milton, Herman, Elmer, Raymond, Bill Jr. and Jimmie and one sister, Ona Dorsey Flinn. Mrs. Cox had a great love of learning and music, singing many solos in school and church. She worked for many years at Montgomery Ward retail store in Ada before leaving to become a wife and mother. While raising her family Mrs. Cox helped her husband operate bus station food concessions in Seminole, Lindsay and Chickasha. They opened their first restaurant in Enid. In 1953 the family moved to Madill where they opened their most successful and well known restaurant, Cox’s Dairy Bar. In 1971 they sold the Dairy Bar and returned to Ada where they owned and operated Cox’s Drive-In until retiring in 1978. Mrs. Cox was a member of the Southwest Church of Christ in Ada. Mrs. Cox was a devoted and loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She never failed to help her family in any way they might need. Gary Bandt will officiate. He was born Dec. 6, 1928, in Appleton, Wis., to Erdhold and Anna (Krueger) Joecks. He graduated high school in Appleton and attended Lawrence University prior to joining the United States Navy during World War II. He spent his service time in the Pacific Theatre as a weather forecaster. After leaving the Navy, he married Shirley (Rieck) on May 7, 1949. They had four children: Mark, Michael, Kristy, and Marsha. They spent 50 wonderful years together before Shirley’s death in March 2000. He worked in the paper industry his entire work life. Building, servicing, and repairing paper and paper related equipment, both in the United States and in South America. He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Anna Joecks; his beloved wife, Shirley; his two sisters, Helen and Violet, and two of his children, Michael and Kristy. He is survived by his son, Mark, and wife, Jeanie, of Edmond; daughter, Marsha and husband, Dennis, of Mancos, Colo. In addition, he leaves four grandchildren: Sean Joecks, and his wife Kimberly of Oklahoma City; Skyler Stagner and her husband, Samuel, of Bethany; Stephanie Doughty and husband, Robert, of Indianola; Haley Gard of Cooperstown, N.Y.
