Beulah was born Dec. 2, 1910, in Seminole County, to John D. and Mary (DeWeese) Tigner. Beulah was a homemaker. She came back to live in Seminole in 1995 after living in Ada for 48 years. While in Ada, she was a very active member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Latta, where she taught Sunday school for over 50 years. She was a member of the Extension Homemakers of Latta and a “Pink Lady” volunteer at Valley View Hospital in Ada. She was current a member of the First United Methodist Church in Seminole. Beulah married Calvin Grace on Nov. 19, 1930, in Guthrie, and he preceded her in death in 2003. Beulah is survived by two nieces who were her primary caregivers, Annette Myrick and Johnnie Collins, both of Seminole, and a host of other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Martha Estas Stubbs and Luna Tigner; three brothers, Elvin Tigner, Charlie Tigner and J.D. Tigner; two nieces, Ethelda Brinker and Inez Ridings; and two nephews, Dick Stubbs and David Tigner. Funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Seminole, with Rev. Gary O. Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. YOAKUM CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — Graveside services for Mack D. Yoakum, 80, Corpus Christi, Texas, formerly of the Allen area are 2 p.m. Saturday at Allen Cemetery, the Rev. David Daniel officiating. Mr. Yoakum died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born during the Great Depression on July 10, 1932, in Allen to Doc and Myrtle Webb Yoakum. At the age of 15, he joined the 45th Oklahoma National Guard in 1947. In 1950, he left school early and was deployed to Korea with the 45th Infantry Division to relieve the 1st Cavalry in Korea. He was injured in Korea and spent a year in various hospitals. After the war, he rough-necked in North Dakota, Oklahoma and various states. During 1953, he married his high-school sweetheart. L. Vermell Muse. Mack and Vermell were part of the second wave of Okies that followed a relocated refinery from Allen to Corpus Christi to work for Suntide Refinery (later known as Sun Oil Company and Flint Hills). Mr. Yoakum retired after 38 years as a shift supervisor. During the Suntide years, Mr. Yoakum attended Officers Command School (Army Rangers) in Fort Benning, Ga., from 1965-1965. After which he was part of “MAG” Military Assessment Group for all services for the Southern Command and participated in various CID assignments (40-year career). He was a Master Mason and a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Al Amin Shrine Temple and Grace United Church. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, L. Vermell Muse Yoakum; three children, Mary Lynn Cazier-Wilcox and husband Brill, Steven D. Yoakum and wife Grace, and Denise Mock and husband Tim; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, H. D. Bob Langston officiating. The Chickasaw Honor Guard is conducting military honors at the cemetery. Mr. Seckinger died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at his home. He was born Jan. 18, 1946, at Colbert to Edward Mack and Ora Lurine Vaughn Moore and was later adopted by Leonard Seckinger. Mr. Seckinger was a self-employed heavy equipment operator. He was a lifetime member of the Operating Engineers, and a member of the Free Masons and a 32 degree Mason. He had served in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War from Aug. 12, 1964, until being honorably discharged as a Gunners Mate Third Class on Aug. 11, 1970. Mr. Seckinger received the National Defense Service Ribbon, Viet-Nam Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal Vietnam, and the V for Valor for courage under fire. He served on River Squadron FIVE, a River Patrol Boat. The squadron started in 1966 and the primary mission was to prevent the movement, infiltration, and resupply of the Viet Cong, colloquially referred to as “Charlie,” within the rivers and waterways of South Vietnam. During the war, he actively participated in naval operations designed to aid the South Vietnamese in maintaining control of their rivers and associated waterways. He was a member of the River Squadron FIVE operating River Patrol Boats (PBRs) from Oct. 23, 1967, until Oct. 9, 1968. He participated in 230 patrols in areas where enemy hostile fire was imminent. These patrols included many highly dangerous night patrols. He was under hostile fire on seven patrols. Mr. Seckinger was presented with a Certificate of River War Service by the Lieutenant, U.S. Navy Commander, River Division FIVE NINE TWO. Survivors include a son, Monty William Seckinger, Oklahoma City; a daughter, Michelle Edenstrom, Moore; three granddaughters, Brittany Foos, Tiffany Foos, and Hailey Edenstrom; a sister, Martha Alice Seckinger, Konawa; and a brother, Marty Rae Seckinger, Konawa. Dr. Jann Cupp is leading congregational singing. Burial follows at Cookeville City Cemetery. Mr. Leddy's family is receiving friends from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. Mrs. Leddy died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at her home. She was born Feb. 26, 1931, at Lovelady near Ada, Pontotoc County, Okla., to Silas Peter “Bud” Taylor Sr. and and Bettie Cordelia Potter Taylor. Mrs. Leddy was educated at Lovelady Elementary, a two-room school house, through the eighth grade. In high school she was a guard on the basketball team coached by the legendary Bertha F. Teague at Byng High School, Ada, Okla. She was salutatorian of her graduating high school class. While in college at East Central University (ECU), Ada, she married Glenn L. Leddy on April 20, 1951, at the Central Church of Christ, Ada. She graduated from ECU with a major in business education and home economics. She accompanied her husband in his military and civilian careers. In Millington, Tenn., she worked for 10 years in a civil service position at the Memphis Naval Air-Station in various office jobs and was promoted in her last assignment to handling the disposition of surplus military aircraft and equipment. Both of her children were born in Memphis, Tenn. She worked as a substitute school teacher for two years in the Memphis public school system. The family moved to Cookeville, Tenn., in 1968, where she worked as a substitute teacher for two more years in Putnam County and later became an independent book representative for the Southwestern Company – Share Division. After rearing her children, she resumed her civil service career, working for the next 17 years with the U.S. Department of Commerce. She retired after 27 years of federal civil service positions. Mrs. Leddy was a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout den mother. She was an active member and past president of the Tennessee Tech Faculty Women’s club. She competed in swimming at the Tennessee Senior Olympics. She was a member and a past president of Cookeville Repeater Association, a amateur (ham) radio group. She was also a member of the Short Mountain Repeater Club. Mrs. Leddy was an active member of Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ in Cookeville, Tenn. She taught Bible classes for young children for more than 50 years at three different congregations in Memphis and Cookeville. She was also a long-time teacher in World Bible School correspondence courses. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Nathaniel Taylor (April 12, 1925), James Monroe Taylor (April 9, 2003); a sister, Lena Mariam Taylor Hunt (July 30, 2007); five half sisters and five half brothers; three brothers-in-law, Charles Raymond Hunt, James Monroe Leddy, Lurtis W. Scott; five sisters-in-law, Ruth Lorene Leddy, Vera Saunders Leddy, Judith Gail Holt Leddy, Syble Marie Leddy Scott, Ileta Irene "Pat" Mitchell Taylor; two nieces, Linda Sue "Susie" Taylor, Priscilla Jane Hunt Ray; two nephews, Scott Alan Leddy and Curry Lynn Scott. Mrs. Young died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at a local nursing home. She was born March 29, 1918, at Mountain View, Okla., to Walter Stanley "Mack" and Minnie May Holman Hines. She married John Daniel Young on Dec. 4, 1935, in Fort Cobb, Okla. He died April 2, 1994. Mrs. Young lived in Oklahoma for some time before she and her husband moved to California. She owned and operated her own beauty salon in Fresno, Calif., for a number of years along with helping farm with her husband before retiring to Allen, Okla., in 1976. Mrs. Young was affiliated with Allen First Baptist Church, Ladies Church group and extension group. She moved to Ada in 1998 to live with her son-in-law, Firmin Elgart, before going to the nursing home. He graduated from Ada High School and received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Oklahoma and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Rice University. He grew up in this area and moved to Texas for 25 years. He married Sarah Auman on March 16, 1996, in College Station, Texas. Mr. Holmes was a professor of mechanical engineering at Texas A & M University, retiring in 1995. He owned and operated Holmes Ranch in Pontotoc, raising cattle until his death. Survivors include his wife, Sarah Holmes, of the home; his mother, Lois Duncan, Ennis, Texas; his children, Ronald Edwin Holmes Jr. and his wife, Shannon, Chatham, N.J., Suezann Davies and her husband, Simon, London, England, Kenneth Holmes and his wife, Zhanna, Seguin, Texas, Evonne Hess and her husband, Gregg, Muenster, Texas; his stepchildren, Kelly Lowther and her husband, Peter, Fort Collins, Colo., and Laura Knudson and her husband, Brian, North Las Vegas, Nev.; and 12 grandchildren. Mrs. Coffey passed away Thursday, October 4, 2012, at a local hospital in Ardmore, OK. She was born on February 20, 1929, in Wichita, KS, to Guy Carlton Harding and Lydia Elizabeth Alexander Harding. She married Gilbert Leon Doud on April 15, 1946, in Topeka, KS. Mr. Doud passed away August 29, 1974. She later married John Coffey on December 23, 1971, in Oklahoma City, OK. Mr. Coffey passed away on May 6, 1985, in Ada, OK. Mrs. Coffey attended Lost Springs Public Schools in Kansas while growing up. She moved to Ada in 1974 from Oklahoma City, OK. She had also lived in Topeka, KS, and Mobile, AL. She was of the Baptist faith, a homemaker, had been the president of the D.A.V. Auxiliary. She was avidly into genealogy and had also worked as a home health provider. She enjoyed fishing, bingo and scrabble. Mrs. Coffey is survived by her loving companion of 17 years, James Hal Charley of Ada, OK; three sons, Richard Leon Doud and wife, Jody, of Lancaster, CA, Donald Leroy Doud and wife, Donna, of Quartz Hill, CA, and Randy J. Doud and wife, Peggy, of Ada, OK; two daughters, Linda S. Sellars and husband, Billy, of Ada, OK, and Irene Hunt and Jimmy Adams of Stonewall, OK; one brother, Henry Travis of Salina, KS; one sister, Loretta Ruth Miller of Meriden, KS; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Gilbert Doud; her second husband, John Coffey; her parents, Guy and Lydia Harding; two brothers, Warren G. and George M. She was a member of the Baptist Church and was an avid visitor of the track at the college in Odessa. Many of her favorite memories and activities centered on enjoying her dance club. Forrest, a longtime Ada News freelance sports and news reporter, died last week. He was born Feb. 8, 1953, in New Jersey to Roseanna Giordano Forrest and Bobby R. Forrest. It is unknown when Forrest moved from New Jersey, but he earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Stephen F. Austin University and worked as a horse racing reporter for the Shreveport, La., newspaper covering activities at Louisiana Downs. He moved to Oklahoma in 1988 to cover horse racing at Remington Park for the Tulsa World and wrote a tip sheet for gamblers in addition to his duties with the newspaper. Forrest loved horse racing and riding. He and his daughter owned horses. She rode competitively and he for pleasure. In 2004, Forrest ventured to The Ada News and offered his skills as a freelance sports reporter. News Sports Editor Jeff Cali approved his first assignments and thus began an eight-year relationship with the newspaper. In 2011, Forrest began residing with Dr. Arthur Kennedy, a Konawa resident and former East Central University music professor. Forrest, and many other friends looked after the 93-year-old Kennedy, who was recently honored by the ECU music department. Forrest is survived by two children, Ashley, of Oklahoma City, and a son, Eric, of Longview, Texas. Ashley Forrest said her father loved covering student athletes and hopes that many of those players and former players will join her in celebrating his life with a H.O.R.S.E. tournament at the gym. Catherine was a member of the Vamoosa Baptist Church and loved gardening, sewing, quilting, and taking care of her cattle. She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Taylor of Sasakwa, and Patsy Graves of Stillwater, Okla. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Charlene, the daughter of Herbert Walter and Johnnie Mozelle (Gunter) Schornick, was a resident of Prague. Charlene graduated from Byng High School with the class of 1962. While in high school, Charlene received the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow award and played basketball for the legendary Bertha Frank Teague. She graduated from St. Anthony School of nursing as an LPN, graduated from East Central University in 1977 with a bachelor’s in education and then obtained a master’s degree in education from ECU. She married Dr. Carl D. Wiseman on Dec. 29, 1979, in Gainesville, Texas. He preceded Charlene in death on June 14, 2000.  Charlene was a longtime member of the Prague First Baptist Church. She taught in the Prague Schools for 34 years and in 1985 was a semifinalist for “Teacher in Space.” Charlene impacted many young lives during her teaching career. Her parents and sister, Jan Sturdevant, also preceded her in death. He was born July 20, 1927, in Springdale, Ark., to Julius Marion and Myrtle Aaron Hanson. His father moved the family to Seminole, Okla., in 1932 and then to Ada in 1939. Mr. Hanson graduated from Ada High School where he played tennis and baseball. He continued to play fast pitch softball and tennis competitively for many years. Near the end of World War II, he joined the U. S. Navy and served his country for 15 months. He then attended East Central State College in Ada for four years, where he met and married Zela Mae Derrick in 1950. He received a degree from Southern Methodist University Graduate School of Banking in 1967. In 1954, Mr. Hanson began his banking career as a teller at First National Bank and Trust, Ada and worked there until August 1983, when he joined Prague National Bank and served as president, CEO and chairman of the board. Mr. Hanson retired in 2000 when Prague National Bank merged into First National Bank and Trust, Ada and for the remainder of his life, continued to serve on the board of directors of the bank that is now named Vision Bank, N.A. All his life, Mr. Hanson was active in church and civic affairs. He served as president of the Ada Chamber of Commerce, Ada Lions Club and Prague Chamber of Commerce. He served three terms as chairman of Ada Campfire Council, several terms on the board of directors of the Ada Arts and Humanities Council, and was a member of the Ada Tennis club, and a charter member of the Main Street Prague Program. He played tennis three times a week for many years with his friends who referred to themselves as “The Rafters.” He was a founding member of the board of directors of The Bankers Bank in 1985, and received a 50-year member award from Oklahoma Bankers Association in 2008. Mr. Hanson was an active choir member and Sunday school teacher at First United Methodist Church in Ada for many years, and also served as chairman of the Staff Parish Relations Committee; and more recently held a position on the administrative board at the Boston Avenue United Methodist Church in Tulsa, where he also sang in the choir. He was born Jan. 17, 1935, in Sulphur, the seventh of eight children born to Charles Alexander Tyler and Myrtie Janette Arnold Tyler. He was raised in Sulphur and attended Sulphur Schools, graduating in 1952. He married young and to this union, four children were born. During this time, he lived in the Sulphur and Ardmore area and worked as a salesman for Oklahoma Hardware Co. Mr. Tyler later met a young lady from Ada and on March 9, 1973, he married Barbara Sue Walker and her son Michael. They moved to Purcell in 1980 and purchased Vaughn’s Home Furnishings from Don and Ramona Vaughn. They changed the name, and in December of that year Tyler’s Furniture was opened. He was a member of Purcell Chamber of Commerce, a past Rotarian and a member of Purcell Main Street, where he and his friend Joe Carwile, were instrumental in starting the Main Street Halloween candy giveaway. For many years, he attended Purcell Pentecostal Church and has attended First Baptist Church for the last year. Mr. Tyler was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Myrtie Tyler; his brothers, Omar Tyler and Jim Tyler and five sisters, Lorene West, Ruby Gilliland, Helen Gilliland, Lucille Weaver and Darlene Coles. She was employed in rental property management for 25 years, an EKG technician and had also been a secretary for Pioneer Airlines. Mrs. Nolen was a member of the Pearland, Texas Methodist Church. She had served as a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout leader. She helped organize the Pearland Order of Eastern Star and had served as the first worthy matron of the Pearland Order of Eastern Star. She was formerly a president of the Pearland Home Demonstration Club, served 15 years on the Brazoria County executive committee of the Brazoria County Fair Board. Mrs. Nolen served on the Brazoria County Draft Board, organized the Pearland League of Women Voters and had helped organize the Pearland American Business Women Club. She was elected the “Woman of the Year” of American Business Women. She served as an election judge, precinct chairman in Pearland, Texas, and was elected as a delegate to the Texas State Senatorial Committee. She was elected in the Texas State Convention to be a National Delegate to the Los Angeles Democratic Convention and she had helped organize the Democratic Party Headquarters in Pearland, Texas.
