Mr. Koller was married to Sammie Louise Floyd on August 23, 1941, who preceded him in passing in 1998. He is survived by his daughter Karen Kaye Hallmark, granddaughter Alecha Kaye Stackle and great granddaughter, Avery Ann Stackle...plus his wonderful extended family and friends that remained close to him and in his thoughts throughout his long and productive life. Mr. Koller graduated from Hastings High School in 1937. He attended East Central State Teachers College on an athletic tuition scholarship and lived and worked as a fireman for room and board at the Ada Fire Department. Mr. Koller earned his BA in Education in May 1941 with emphasis in History and Social Studies, which he accomplished without the financial resources to buy a single textbook. While there, he also excelled in basketball and track. He began his teaching and coaching career at Wanette, Oklahoma and 2 years later joined the staff at Byng High School and enjoyed a 43-year career in education as Teacher, Basketball Coach and Principal. Along the way, Mr. Koller earned a Masters in Education degree from Oklahoma University, and was inducted into the East Central University Athletic Hall of Fame and the Oklahoma Coaches Hall of Fame. During his coaching career at Byng High School, Mr. Koller’s boys won state championships in 1947, 1954, and 1958. According to Ray Soldan, Special Sports Correspondent with The Daily Oklahoman News, during the 1957-59 periods Mr. Koller’s teams recorded 95 victories and 1 loss, including 67 consecutive victories, thus becoming the holder of the state record for the longest winning string in boys’ basketball. During a 4 year span his teams accumulated 125 wins and 4 losses. Although he clearly had a love of sports, as a teacher and Principal he positively influenced many students and served as a mentor throughout his career. His retirement quote tells you what he held most important – which was helping kids reach their full potential: “Awards and trophies don’t mean much, but when a former student makes the effort to come back and say ‘thanks’ that means a lot.” A memorial reception is planned in the future. Mr. Koller wished any remembrance be in support of innovative teaching programs and college scholarships for students at Byng High School. Donations can be made in his memory to the Byng Excellence in Education Foundation, Box 922, Ada, OK, 74821. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Ada News, Ada, OK, Pontotoc County Sunday, October 6, 2013 ***PAID OBITUARY*** SUE SCHULTINGKEMPER 19 February 1941 - 01 October 2013 Mary Sue Schultingkemper, 72, of Edmond OK, loving wife, amazing mother, and wonderful sister and friend, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ, Tuesday October 1st surrounded by her family and loyal friend Dottie. He was born on May 27, 1929 in Ada, Oklahoma to Edna Rice Warner and W.C. “Pop” Turner. He was preceded in death by three sisters; Wauneta Boone, Billie Zachry, and Avonelle Mason, four brothers, George Warner, Jake Warner, Hal Laird, and John Laird and parents, Edna Warner and W.C. Turner. Sonny is survived by his nephew, David Dean and wife JoAnne of Moore, three great nieces, Shelley Madden and husband John Madden of Moore, Tracy Gourley and husband Wade Gourley of Oklahoma City, and Glenda Wooten and family of Marlow. Other family members are, Denise and Nolan Brown and daughter Harper Grace Brown, Brandon and Alyson Gourley, Matthew and Luksana Madden and daughter Bryanna all of Oklahoma City, and George and Cari Madden and children Wesley, Mia, and Hannah of Edmond. The family would like to include the following as honorary family members and special friends; former Senator Billie Jean Floyd and family, long-time loving friends, Tim and Trudy Mills and their children, his second family, Pat and Dee Cristelli and children who loved him as their own, and Mike and Nancy O’Brien for all of their love and support. Sonny was not an ordinary man from Ada, He touched the lives of every individual he met and instantly made friends with them. He was a regular attender at the McSwain Theater, never missing a performance and even sang at the close of shows. Also, the country group “Little Texas” included him in their song, Missing Years. He loved country music, automobiles and sports. He knew the ends and outs of country music and cars, right down to the nuts and bolts. For over fifty years, Sonny was present at sports events, cheering on his local teams. He watched generations of kids play little league, encouraging them every chance he had to hit a good one. In addition to the time spent at games, he spent many hours at car dealerships, advising good auto purchases to friends and family. He was voted Salesman of the Month several times. Cars were his passion in life. Sonny had a distinctive voice. He had a stutter when he talked, but when he prayed there was not a stutter one. He was an innocent man that lived his life for Christ. He was a true example of how to live a Christian life. Services to celebrate the life of Sonny will be Wednesday October 30, 2013, at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church in Ada, Oklahoma. In memory of Sonny, donations may be made to the youth baseball program.
