She was born July 18, 1929, in Dill City, Okla., to Othel A. and Gertrude (Easter) Savage. She died Nov. 27, 2013, at her home in Ada. She was the office manager for OG&E, until retirement. She went to school and graduated from Amber High School near Chickasha. She has lived in the Stratford/Ada area most of her adult life. She was a member of East Main Church Of Christ in Stratford and a member of OG&E Retirement Group. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include two brothers, O.A. Savage and his wife, Darla, Stratford, and Jerry Savage and his wife, Marlene, Bentonville, Ark.; one sister, Linda Rosson and her husband, Duane, Stratford; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Daniel and Bob Langston will officiate. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Linden Cemetery in Linden, Texas. Mrs. Jacobs died Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at an Ada nursing home. She was born January 2, 1915 in Linden, Texas to Elmer F. and Bessie Tarver Almond. She graduated from high school and attended cosmetology school. She married Eugene Benson. She later married William “Bill” Jacobs. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Jacobs worked as a unit clerk at Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City until her retirement, and she was also a beautician and cosmetologist in Northeast Texas and Oklahoma City. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Women and other related Bible Study Groups. She was a seamstress through the age of 95 and an avid gardener. Survivors include her children, Charlene Wilson Wade and her husband, Dr. Donald Wade of Charleston, SC, Barbara King of Ada, and Tania Benson of Topeka, KS; four grandchildren, Mike Wade, South Carolina, Mark Wade, Minnesota, Wynn Stinson and Mary Stinson, both of Oklahoma; seven great grandchildren, Sarah Wade Walter, Anthony Wade, Joseph Wade, Ben Wade, Ali Wade, Jake Stinson and Jessica Stinson; one sister, Mary Pickens, Dallas, TX; nieces, Cassie Points and Karis Pickens, both of Texas; nephew, Bill Almond, Texas; and many cousins, great nephews and great nieces and friends. He came to the Ada area as a child, and graduated from the Byng school system. He was an electrician at Holcim Cement Company, and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers D114. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. George died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was born Jan. 29, 1924, in Mill Creek, Oklahoma to Herbert and Eula Goodson Bulman. She graduated from high school, and received a bachelor’s and master’s degree from East Central University. She married Elvan George on Feb. 3, 1945, in Ada. He preceded her in death June 21, 1974. Mrs. George taught English and Family/Consumer Economics at Ada High School and East Central University from 1946 until retiring in 1986. She was named the first “Distinguished Former Faculty Award” at East Central in 2007 and in the Spring of 2012, she was inducted into the East Central University Educators Hall of Fame. She was a longtime member of Central Church of Christ, a member of the American Home Economics Association, and the Oklahoma Home Economics Association. Survivors include her nephews, Bronson Warren and wife Allene of Ada, Harris Penner and wife Vickie of Sulphur, and David Bulman and wife Kerri of Midwest City; her nieces, Becky Thompson and husband Rick of Shawnee and Suzanne Coyle of Ada. She was born Feb. 9, 1952, to Arnold and Ollie Sheppard in Holdenville. She attended school in Allen, graduating in May 1970. She worked as a legal secretary in Holdenville, Wewoka, and Ada. She also worked at Wrangler in Ada. In December 1983, she married John Harbison of Clarksville, Texas. She was employed by Vershall Law Office in Atlanta, Texas. She is survived by her husband, John Harbison; two sons, Jacob Harbison of Atlanta, Texas and John-David Harbison and wife, Brook, of Caddo Mills, Texas; granddaughter, Anna Marie Harbison of Atlanta, Texas; brother, Ernest Sheppard and wife, Paula, of Ada; and two nieces, Renee Sheppard of Ada and Crystal Sheppard-Morgan and husband, Dustin, of Ada. "FLO" LOFTIN SHARON SPRINGS, KAN. — Longtime Weskan resident Flora H. “Flo” Loftin, 98, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at Wallace County Community Care Center in Sharon Springs, Kan. She was born near Francis, Okla., on May 6, 1915, the eighth of ten children born to Robert Lee and Ida Mae (Coffee) Steelman. She attended public school at Sasakwa, Okla., graduating in 1933. After graduation, she worked as a housekeeper/nanny in Konawa, Okla. She married Eugene William “Gene” Loftin in Siloam Springs, Ark., August 25, 1937. To this union were born three children: Carol Ann, Dana Eugene and Robert Morris. Mrs. Loftin returned to college after Gene was seriously injured in 1960 and was unable to continue working. She graduated from East Central State College, Ada, in 1967, with a degree in education. Teaching brought her to Kansas in 1969, where she taught home economics at Weskan High School. She was an accomplished seamstress, making most of her own clothes, as well as for many others. Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, brothers: Elmer, Lee, Lawrence, Sydney, Bailey, and Raymond; sisters: Faye Jones, Mamie “Joan” Steelman, and Hazel Harter; and son-in-law William A. Peek, Jr. Surviving family includes daughter Carol Ann Peek of Van Alstyne, Texas; sons Dana E. of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Robert M. of Weskan; eight grandchildren: Sean, Melisa, Robert Jr., Lucas, Drew, Cody, Stephen, and Megan Loftin; and seven great-grandchildren: Tyler, Levi, Gavin, Kian, Wyatt, and Annalise Loftin, and Feasha (Loftin) Powell. RAY MIDWEST CITY — On Dec. 2, 2013, our beloved father, Grady M. Ray, 92, passed away at his home in Midwest City. He was the 10th child born to W.M. and Sarah Ann Matthews Ray on March 29th, 1921, in Lula, OK. He grew up in the Lula area until joining the Army at the onset of WWII. He served as a medic in Central Europe earning several medals. Upon returning home from the service, he met his future wife, Bobbie Jean Marr, at a dance where he was playing guitar. They were married on March 21, 1948, and made their home in Allen, OK. They had four children and many happy memories. He raised his family on their farm and drove a gasoline transport truck for Rob-Lon Oil Co. He moved to Midwest City in 1965, where he worked as a maintenance supervisor for Total Petroleum Co. After retiring in 1991, he enjoyed many years of traveling, fishing and his passion for gardening. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years and son, Harvey DeWayne. He is survived by daughters Betty Kuykendall (Ken) of Tulsa, Molly Spencer (Steve) of MWC, Connie Hack (Matthew) of Norman; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was of the Baptist faith. He was born on Sept. 18, 1936 in Maud, Okla. He was one of two sons born to Orville Howard Hodges and Vesta Lee McCraw Hodges. Mr. Hodges grew up on a farm near Maud and Konawa. He attended Maud High School and graduated in 1955. He later joined the U.S. Army and served four years active duty and seven years in the Reserves. On July 2, 1960, he married Beverly Ann Kleven in Kimball, Neb. They raised four daughters, Becky, Linda, Jan and Julie. For 10 years Mr. Hodges worked in the oil field and for various oil field companies. They lived in Woodward, Midwest City, Duncan and Seminole before moving back to his family farm near Konawa in 1967. In 1970, he went to work for OG&E and for 18 years built substations all over the state. The last six years Mr. Hodges worked for OG&E, he worked as a planner analyst before retiring in 1994. After he retired from OG&E he worked seven years as a deputy sheriff and two years as under sheriff for the Pottawatomie Co. Sheriff Department. He retired a second time in 2003. That same year they moved away from the family farm and moved to Purcell to be close to family. While living near Konawa he was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Konawa. He served as a board member for the Asher Public Schools for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Vesta Hodges; an infant brotherm, Howard Hodges; and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Wofford. Mr. West retired from Western Electric after 29 years of service. He was a past president of Kiwanis Club of Ada and Ada Board of Realtors. He was a state and national delegate and a member of the County Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Farm Bureau. He was also a member of the Pontotoc County Cattleman’s Association. Mr. West was also a member of Western Electric Retiree’s Association and served as a Union Steward for CWA. He was a committee chair for the Western Heritage Association. He was also a past county chair and state delegate for the Pontotoc County Democratic Party. He was a member of Southwest Church of Christ. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army motor pool division during the Korean Conflict. Mr. West lived on a part of his great-grandmother’s original Indian allotment. He was active in the community and dedicated his later life to community service and political activism. She and her husband were longtime members of First Free Will Baptist Church in Ada. Survivors include her daughters, Carol Davis and her husband Skip of Richardson, Texas, and Nancy Osborn of Knoxville, Tenn.; three grandsons; two great-grandsons; a sister, Mamie Lou Frazier; and numerous nieces and nephews. She married Lewis Elward Green in May 1943 and assisted him in ministries in the Church of the Nazarene in Kansas and Oklahoma, Guatemala and Belize, Central America. In Guatemala, she and her family pioneered a missionary work among the K’ek’chi Indians. She taught school in Bethany, Okla., Kansas City, Kan., Hugo, Okla., Del City, Okla.; Belize City, Calif., and served as assistant to the headmaster at Grace Christian Academy, Oklahoma City, until she retired in 1987. She was active in the Association of Christian Schools International and served in many capacities in the Church of the Nazarene. He was a member of Morris Memorial Baptist Church for 65 years, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Swanson served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on a minesweeper ship in the South Pacific.
