Smith-Phillips Funeral Home, Ada --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Ada News, Ada, OK, Pontotoc County Wednesday, August 14, 2013 ***PAID OBITUARY*** EDWARD JARMAN SULPHUR — Funeral services for Edward “Eddie” Jarman will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Sulphur, with Pastor Tim Moore officiating. Interment will follow at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur. Eddie was born in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, October 2, 1939, to Weldon and Ethel (Hornberger) Jarman. He died Sunday, August 11, 2013, in Oklahoma City at the age of 73 years, 10 months and 9 days. Eddie spent his early years in the Tishomingo/Mill Creek area, graduating from Mill Creek High School as part of the Class of 1957. He went on to Murray State College where in 1959 he earned an Associate’s Degree in Business. Eddie then attended The University of Oklahoma training program for Physical Therapy through the University Hospital system in Oklahoma City. Eddie married Kathy (Brown) Jarman August 8, 1962, in Ardmore, Oklahoma. After their marriage, Eddie and Kathy moved to Oklahoma City, where Eddie worked in the Physical Therapy Department for the Presbyterian Hospital for several years. After the birth of their first child, a daughter named Sherri, the young couple decided to return home to the southern part of the state, moving to the Pauls Valley area. After several more years and another child, this time a son named Theirl, the couple relocated to Sulphur, where they would make their permanent home. Eddie and Kathy attended Sulphur First Assembly of God church for several years; later making The Oak Grove Church their church home. In the early 1970s, Eddie owned and operated Jarman’s Used Furniture in downtown Sulphur. In 1974, he returned to a trade he learned while working his way through college by adding Jarman’s All Breed Grooming to the front of the furniture store. He found his love for dogs and the craft of grooming them something he enjoyed and a successful business. He remained a much-sought-after dog groomer until his retirement in 2000. Eddie also combined his love for garage sales and antiques into another business in around 1985, when he started Jarman’s Estate Liquidation Company, holding sales in the southern Oklahoma area until his retirement in 2000. Even his retirement in 2000 could not keep him away from his love and the excitement of “A Good Sale.” He continued to work one Sunday a month as a Floor Manager at John Teel’s Antiques Auction Company in Blue, Oklahoma. This was a job Eddie enjoyed greatly for nearly 25 years until his health would no longer allow him to continue, and he had to give up this job in 2006. Eddie was a very friendly person who enjoyed his family and friends dearly. He loved nothing more than visiting all of the friends he had made through the years attending the Sulphur “Dog Trade” each and every Sunday morning at the crack of dawn. Later in life as his health would allow, he enjoyed working 2 days a month for the Harvest Basket Food Ministry at the Faith Center Church where he could see and visit with many of his friends. When his health would no longer allow him to get out much, he looked forward to the visits and phone calls from his family and friends. He would keep count of each visit and phone call and report this information each evening to his visitors. He was preceded in death by his niece, Kenda Holbrook; father, Weldon Jarman; stepmother, Pearl Scott Jarman; mother, Ethel Jarman; father- and mother-in-law, Clarence and Velma Brown; and brother-in law, Kenneth Holbrook. He leaves behind to cherish his memory and continue to spread the love he shared his wife, Kathy, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Sherri (Jarman) & Ben Vineyard, Sulphur; son and partner, Theirl Jarman & Jeff Towsend, Tulsa; grandchildren Dustin and Kenna Smith, Wilson, OK, Kyle and Regina Smith, Sulphur, Brittni Smith, Suphur; great-grandsons, Bailen Smith, Sulphur, and Alexander Smith, Wilson; great-granddaughter, Kenlee Smith, Wilson; two sisters, Juanita Holbrook, Grand Prairie, Texas, and Joanne Bosscawen of Round O, South Carolina; brother and sisters-in-law, Charlie and Barbara Brown, Davis, and Don and Evone Brown, Sulphur. Eddie also leaves behind 12 nieces and nephews and a host of great-nieces and -nephews that he enjoyed watching grow from birth to adulthood.
