Funeral services for Vernon ?Merle? Marsolf, 78, of Byars were held Friday, Oct. 31, at Heritage Funeral Home in Andover, Kansas. A funeral service and burial took place Nov. 1 at Byars Cemetery. Marsolf, an Army veteran, farmer and retired machinist, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Kansas Medical Center in Andover, surrounded by his family. He was born Sept. 8, 1936, to Charles and Virginia "Yates" Marsolf in Hutchinson, Kansas. He graduated from high school and enlisted in the Army Reserves. In November of 1975, Merle married Theresa Larman in Oklahoma. Mr. Marsolf was a self-made farmer who taught himself how to farm. He is survived by his wife, Theresa of Ardmore; children Vernon (Lela), Mountain View, Arkansas, Monty (Khymm), San Antonio, Texas, Teresa (Glen), Andover, Kansas, Deanna (Scott), Andover, Kansas, Sandy (Paul), Ardmore, and Randy (Sherry), Ardmore; siblings, Virgil (Sylvia), Gail, Ted (Phyllis), and Vivian (Rogers); many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family and friends. A celebration of life for Michael Edward Dodson, 63, of Shawnee will be held at noon Wednesday, Nov. 5, at the Citizen Potawatomi Nation's North Reunion Hall in Shawnee. Mr. Dodson died Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at his home in Shawnee. He was born June 25, 1951, in Wewoka to Edward and Berdine Ong Dodson. He graduated from Purcell High School and also attended college. Mr. Dodson was the radio news director for the Citizen Potawatomi Nation's KGFF radio station. Prior to assuming the role of news director for KGFF, he served for many years as the public information director for the CPN. His career in radio and news media spanned four decades. Survivors include a daughter, Courtney Helms and her husband, Branden of Dallas, Texas; his mother, Bonnie Berdine Dodson of Ada; two grandsons, Benjamin and Thomas Helms; sister, JoElla Sawyer of Ada; brother, Randel Eugene Dodson of Corpus Christi, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. He was born Dec. 15, 1945, at Roff, to Earl and Leda Johnson Williams. He and his family moved to Ada when he was 3 years old and he lived here until 2003, when he relocated to Buncombe Creek at Lake Texoma. Mr. Williams was a Vietnam veteran in the U. S. Army, serving from November 1965 until September 1967. During his service, he received two Bronze Stars and the Army Commendation Medal with Valor. He married Dianna Marie Clayton on Dec. 28, 1983, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was a lifelong resident of Ada. He was the owner and operator of Snips Hair Design and was a barber for 40 years until his retirement. He was an active member of the Ada Elks Lodge for many years and had served as secretary and treasurer. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Dianna Williams of the home; one son, Derrick Williams of Ada; two brothers, Clifford Williams and wife, Norma of Ada and David Williams of Ada; four sisters, Lois Montgomery of Redlands, California, Anita Lewis and husband, Richard of Ada, Rita Kay Lowry and husband, Fred of Tulsa, and Phillis Northcutt and husband, Benny of Ada; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends. She graduated from Ada High School in 1965 and attended East Central University. She received a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Oklahoma. After college she went to work as an intern for the highway department in Ada. She later moved to Oklahoma City and went to work at Fidelity Bank. She then went into real estate and taught school on a part-time basis. She was active in federal and state politics and never missed voting. She was a singer at the Lyric Theater, where she starred in the play "Cabaret." She started the preservation of the 16th St. Plaza District. She had lights put in front of every house and paid or got help for those who couldn't afford it. She was a member of the Open Arms Church. Survivors include her parents, Bill and Betty West of Ada; a brother, Bill West and wife, Lisa of Lufkin, Texas; a nephew, John William West of Lufkin, Texas; and other loving relatives and friends. Lou Ann Cantrell McVay died peacefully in Medford, Oregon on Oct. 17, 2014, at the age of 71. She was born Nov. 3, 1942, in Ada to Edward and Iva Cantrell. She graduated from Byng High School in 1960 and went on to study at East Central University in Ada. She married Victor McVay Jr. Aug. 19, 1960. They moved to French Camp, California, in 1962 and then later to Stockton, California, where she was a stay-at-home mom for her growing family. When the children were old enough, she began working outside the home in various capacities. Mr. and Mrs. McVay retired to Eufaula, Oklahoma, in 2001. She opened her own business as a long-arm quilter at that time. In 2012, they moved to Grants Pass, Oregon, to be nearer to their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Victor McVay Jr. of Grant Pass, Oregon; sons Victor McVay III and wife, Charlotte of Cave Junction, Oregon, Joe Kent McVay and wife, Elana McVay of Folsom, California; daughter Rachel Roberts and husband, Sam Roberts of Dayton, Oregon, and seven grandchildren, as well as four great-grandchildren. Also surviving her are sister Wynotha Deaton of Ada and younger brother Joe Cantrell of Atwood. He was born June 4, 1938, in Ashland, Oklahoma, to Allen Clinton and Viola Johnson Stonecipher. He attended Tupelo schools and was the first in his family to attend college, graduating from East Central State College in 1959. While in college, he would marry his ?soulmate,? Shirley Ann Thompson, in 1958. The couple celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary earlier this year. After a brief career as a school teacher and debate coach, Mr. Stonecipher joined his mentor, Charlie Walls, in the life insurance business. While on a sales trip in 1969, Mr. Stonecipher was in an automobile accident that ultimately led to his founding and creation of Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. in 1972. For 40 years, Mr. Stonecipher led his company as founder, chairman and chief executive officer. The company?s initial one-room operation grew and would become listed on the American Stock Exchange. In 1999, the company moved to the world?s largest exchange, the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol PPD. His vision of making quality legal services available to every North American led to more than 1.4 million families owning the membership and more than 300,000 sales associates taking advantage of the business opportunity. He devised a proprietary network of provider law firms to deliver the legal services. Throughout his tenure with Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc., Mr. Stonecipher became recognized for his vision and accomplishments. A renowned orator, he was asked to speak before a variety of businesses, associatons and organizations, including several attorney general associations. In 2002, he was recognized by Ernst & Young as their Southwest Master Enterpreneur of the Year. His alma mater, ECU, recognized him as Distinguished Alumnus in 1987. He and Shirley would later bestow a gift to the university which led to the naming of the Harland C. Stonecipher School of Business. Aside from his business pursuits, Mr. Stonecipher was appointed to three consecutive terms as a commissioner of the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He and Shirley also funded the construction of the Life Community Church located just southwest of LegalShield?s home office on Stonecipher Boulevard. The church is scheduled to open in December of this year. Services for James Delbert Akin, 86, of Midwest City will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College in Moore. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee. Mr. Akin died Nov 16, 2014. He was born Nov 22, 1927, to Daniel and Anna Akin in Maud. He began a ministry at the First FWB church in Tecumseh on June 10, 1951. He pastored the following FWB churches all of which are in Oklahoma: Tecumseh Church, 1951-1956; Ada First, 1956-1963; Norman First, 1963-1967; Spencer Road, 1967-1968; Ada First, 1968-1977; Ardmore First, 1977-1980; Westgate, Shawnee, as a missionary for First OK association 1980-1989; Tecumseh 1989-1991; Wolf church 1991-1993; Choctaw 1993-2004; Senior Adult Pastor at Harrah FWB Church 2004 to present. Mr. Akin was active in serving his denomination while serving as a pastor. He was Oklahoma Executive Secretary 1953-1955 on a part-time basis, a member of the State Mission board 1955-1975, member of the National Home Mission board 1974-1985, and a member of the Hillsdale College Board of Trustees, 1975-1985. He was on the faculty of Hillsdale College for a number of years, 1965-1989, teaching English and speech and was director of the Ministerial Intern program. He was a member of the Ministers Quartet for 43 years, and United Commercial Travelers 1960-present where he served as International Secretary Treasurer for a number of years. Mr. Akin was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Akin; daughter Judi; brother Verdane; sister Stella; and parents Daniel and Anna. He is survived by his wife Virginia Akin; daughters Jan Cornelius and Kim and Anothony Dean; sons Phil and Anita Akin and Larry Bates; grandchildren Elaine and Kirk Taylor; Whitney Randell; Cliff Randell; Leah and Voth Doug; Ben and Kim Randell; Travis and Tiffany Roberts; Tiffany and Jeremiah Broyles; Bailey and Stephanie Akin; Andrew Theiss; Jamie and Adam Hull; and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Leroy and Maudie Akin; sisters-in-law Martie Akin, Nancy and Lonnie Martin, and Patricia and Ray Anderson; brother-in-law Tom Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. The couple moved to Ardmore in 1957 from Stillwater and to Ada n 1963. In 1972 they moved to Sulphur, OK. In 1977 they moved to Oklahoma City and in 1978 they moved back to Ardmore. Bob died in 1985. Almost two decades later, in March, 2004, Mollyann and Joe Davidson were married. They lived in Ardmore these last ten years. Mollyann worked throughout her life, always a wife, always a mom, always a community volunteer. She as an employee of Credit Bureau of Ada, Sulphur Public Schools, Rockwell International, Citizens Bank of Ardmore, and Mercy Memorial in Ardmore. Mollyann was a committed Christian all her life. In Ardmore she was involved in First Baptist Church and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. A few of Mollyann?s activities include: Kiwanis, Terrific Kids, Kiwanis TV Auction, United Way, Ambulance Board, Ardmore Chamber of Commerce, Bob Cypert Leadership Award for the Chamber, Chamber Business Afterhours, and Presbyterian Women. HORNE ADA ? Services for Bill J. Horne, 87, Ada, are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ada First Baptist Church. Dr. Pat Kilby and Rev. John Haynes will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday at Criswell Funeral Home. Mr. Horne died Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born Sept. 6, 1927, to William Chester and Eva Mae Hawthorne Horne at Holdenville. He graduated from Holdenville High School and Oklahoma State University. Mr. Horne was employed in the public accounting practice, presently serving as a tax consultant at Horne & Company P.C., Certified Public Accountants. He was a member of the Board of Directors at Vision Bank, currently serving as chairman. He had served on many community boards, often serving as director or president, including the Ada Chamber of Commerce, Ada Public Schools School Board, the Oklahoma Governor's Advisory Committee on Taxation, Ada Lions Club, Ada Community Chest, Ada Camp Fire Girls, Oklahoma Baptist University and was currently president of the Ada Industrial Development Corporation. Mr. Horne was a member of the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants (OSCPA) where he had served as President. He also served on the ethics and development committees, as well as president of the Ada chapter. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Accounting Hall of Fame and received the Public Service Award from the Oklahoma Society of CPA's. He was a member, served on committees and won awards from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Oklahoma State Board of Public Accountancy, the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy and the Kinslow Sonic Group. He was a member of Ada First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was also an honorary chief of the Methodist Indian Mission of Oklahoma. Mr. Horne served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1949 and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Mr. Horne and Twylah McGee were married Jan. 28, 1951, at the Cromwell Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Twylah of the home; a son, Bill Horne Jr. and his wife Mandy of Ada; two daughters, T. Jennone Horne Kessler and her husband Ned of Edmond, and Jeanetta Horne Bagwell and her husband Steve of Ada; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Chet Horne and Lee Horne. Bearers will be Bryan Harwell, Hank Walbrick, Dr. Laurin Patton, Capt.
