All rights reserved. http://www.usgenweb. org ===================================================================== The Ada News, Ada, OK, Pontotoc County Tuesday, December 2, 2014 MILLARD REICH WEWOKA — Services for Millard Dow Reich, 92, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Wewoka Church of Christ with Aaron Alsbrook and Virgil Romine officiating. Lunch will be served at 12 p.m. at the Church of Christ and family and friends are invited to attend. Graveside service will follow at Lone Dove Cemetery in Sasakwa. Mr. Reich died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014. He was born Aug. 17, 1922, to Ammon Hansford and Atlas Imogene in Talihina. He was the fourth born of fourteen children. On June 30, 1942, he registered in the United States Army at the age of 19. He was enlisted Nov. 23, 1942, and served in the 84th Infantry Division, Company L 334th Infantry Army of the United States. Mr. Reich served in several World War II Campaigns, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign, Rhineland Campaign, Battle of the Bulge, and Central Europe Campaign. His decorations and citations consisted of World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon, Purple Heart, and Three Bronze Service Stars and Distinguished Unit Badge GO 166 H.Q. 84th Infantry Division 45, and Expert Rifleman. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1946 and was a member of the American Legion for many years. He was also honored as a Disabled American Veteran due to injuries received in combat. He worked for the Frisco Railroad for 31 years from 1947-1948 and then 1952-1982. He served on the school board for Kite and Sasakwa Schools for a total of 26 years. He married Evelyn Mae Edwards Jan. 11, 1949, and celebrated 59 years of marriage. They made their home in Sasakwa on a small country farm where they had fourteen children; eight girls and six boys, 67 grandchildren, 84 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; parents, Ammon Hansford and Atlas Imogene; brothers: Clarence, Thomas, Ivan, Sherman, Jack, Herbert, Larry, Lawrence, and A.H.; sisters: Marie Landreth and Joanne Long; two sons: Steven Joe and Allen Hampton; two sons-in law: Rick Hensley and Phillip Whitlock, Sr., daughter-in-law Connie Reich; grandson Lance Whitlock; great-grandsons: Michael and Daniel Hermes and Garrett Christ. He is survived by his two brothers and sisters-in law: Jerry and Carolyn Reich, and Lester and Demiah Reich; sister-in-law Martha McMahan, and brothers-in-law; W.M. Mr. Beach was employed by the city of Ada Water and Waste Water Department where he served as the Superintendent from 2007 until his retirement in 2011. He served for 38 years. David Daniel will officiate. Mrs. Aubrey died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014, at her home. She was born June 21, 1931, in McPherson, Kansas, to L. D. and Evva Maude Boone Massey. She started first grade at the age of 5 and graduated from Shawnee High School when she was 16. She attended 16 different schools as her father was an oil field worker. She attended the University of Oklahoma and was a twirler (or then called a majorette) in the Pride of Oklahoma Band. Barbara obtained her masters degree from East Central University. She married Bob Buck Aubrey from Wewoka. He preceded her in death 1976. Mrs. Aubrey was the bookkeeper for the family drug store, Aubrey Drug in Wewoka. She taught school in Wewoka and New Lima. She was a state psychometrist traveling the state testing children in multiple school districts and designing individualized learning plans. Barbara had made a home in Ada. Survivors include a son, Bob D. Aubrey of Ada; daughter, Cayla Tracy and son-in-law, Terry Tracy of Ada; daughter, Chris Purcell and son-in-law, Gary M. Mrs. Thomas died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. She was born July 25, 1933, in Randolph, Vermont, where she married her husband Richard Emery Thomas June 14, 1952. This began a 62 year adventure that included living in or traveling to all 50 states and visiting numerous countries around the world before settling in Edmond. During her early adult years she raised four children. In those years she was very active as a political volunteer and owned a Newcomers Business in Ada. She had a long career working for Oklahoma Senators Dewey F. Bartlett, Henry Bellmon, Don Nichols and David L. Boren — over 20 years of service. Mrs. Thomas split her retirement between New Hampshire and Florida. Mrs. Gibson died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, in Ada. She was born March 27, 1947, in Salem, Ohio, to Edward and Jane Gray Bucher. She attended numerous schools due to her father being in the U. S. Army. She graduated from Lawton High School and attended Hills Business College in Oklahoma City. She moved to this area in 1964 from Midwest City. She married Donald Brent Gibson in 1966 at Lawton. Previously, Mrs. Gibson had been employed with the Department of Indian Education. Mrs. Gibson was the first female employee of the Chickasaw Nation. She was currently the Chickasaw Nation Community Programs Liaison. Formerly, she was the Executive Secretary to Governor Overton James. Mrs. Gibson was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a member of the Ambuc's here she served as president from 1997 - 1998. She was active in various Chickasaw community service projects and had served the Chickasaw Nation her entire adult life. She married Clifton Thompson Dec. 11, 1937, in Coalgate. They made their first home in Pontotoc County where their four daughters were born. They later moved to Monroe County, Michigan, where they resided for 10 years. After returning to Oklahoma in 1957, she worked as a nurse's aide at the Stratford Nursing Home for 10 years. Mr. Thompson, a carpenter and electrician, preceded her in death in 1990. Mrs. Thompson was a lifelong member of the Stratford Church of Christ and a member of the Chimney Hill Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Elmo Dugan Standridge. She is survived by a sister, Bonnie Juanita Archer of Ada and a sister-in-law, Mary Jo (Thompson) McHurd of Sacramento, California, and many nieces and nephews. Survivors also include her four daughters, Patricia (Gary) Lawley of Tishomingo, Oklahoma and Anchorage, Alaska; Shirley Joan (Paul) Elliott of Ada, Oklahoma; Bonnie Rita Dennis of Riverside, California; and Mary Ruth (Roger) McClure of Konawa. She made her home in Gerty with her husband, Cleaburn Thornton, who died Sept. 21, 2014. Mr.s Thornton worked in the past for Hunt’s Electronics in Dallas and Albertson’s in Hurst, Texas. She retired from King Savers in Hurst. Pastor Danny Frazee will officiate with Ashton Adair assisting. Burial will be at the Atwood Cemetery. Mr. Merriman died Dec. 2, 2014, due to complications of cancer. He was born Feb. 8, 1990, in Ada and was raised in Atwood. He attended Holdenville Public Schools. He was a member of the Golden Pride Band and earned Oklahoma All-State band member honors. He was an active 4-H club member participating in livestock projects, speech competitions, and many other 4-H functions. He was the recipient of various Oklahoma State University and local community academic and leadership scholarships. He was active in Key Club, National Honor Society, and many other organizations. He graduated Valedictorian from Holdenville High School in 2008. After graduation Mr. Meriman attended Oklahoma State University to pursue a degree in chemical engineering. While attending OSU, he marched in the Cowboy Marching Band his freshman year at Oklahoma State. He also served on the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology Student Council and was college’s Career Fair Coordinator during his junior year. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in chemical engineering in May of 2014. Mr. Merriman is survived by his parents, Randy and Connie Merriman of Holdenville; his sister Laura Merriman of Raleigh; his grandparents, Bill and Luella Smoot of Ada; J.C. and Margie Merriman of Holdenville; six aunts, Connie R. He was born Sept. 16, 1952, in Coalgate to Arlie and Inola (Coffee) Franks. Mr. Franks was raised in Coalgate but called Center his home for the last 35 years. On Dec. 9, 1977, he took Sherry Rambo as his wife in Coalgate. He graduated from Oklahoma A & M (now Oklahoma State University). He married Mildred Lou Byrd Nov. 27, 1943. She preceded him in death April 21, 2002. He later married Jackie Morehead in Jan. 3, 2003, in Ada. Mr. Savage assumed the position of the Manager of the Ada Chamber of Commerce and the Executive Director of the Ada Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) in the spring of 1956, serving until his retirement 1984. After his retirement, he was a member of the first Pontotoc County Vo-Tech Board and participated in selecting and acquiring its present location. Mr. Savage was one of the original founders and longtime board member of the Science and Natural Resources Foundation. He was the original founder of the Pontotoc County Adult Day Care Center. Mr. Savage was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Ada. Mr Savage served in the U. S. Army from Oct. 28, 1944, until being honorably discharged May 19, 1946, as a first lieutenant. He received the Bronze Star Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the American Theater Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He also received a second Bronze Medal in 2008 for his service in World War II. She worked for several years for International Telephone and Telegraph in Santa Ana, California, making electronic components for various companies as well as for the military and aerospace program. She was always active in Southern Baptist churches and always involved in the music program. She sang in choirs and ensembles as well as other fellowship opportunities with friends and family. She attended and graduated from Vamoosa High School and has lived most all of her life in Konawa. She was a nurse’s aide for the Konawa Nursing Home and a nursing home in Wilson and an in home health care worker for Seminole County for many years before her retirement in 2009. After her retirement, she cooked at the Konawa Senior Citizens Center and served meals. Mr. Burns died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, in Oklahoma City. Mr. Burns was born Nov. 26, 1949, in San Antonio, Texas, to Nelma (Wilson) and E.M. “Gene” Burns. He grew up and attended Konawa Public Schools and graduated from Konawa High School. He later attended Clarendon College in Clarendon, Texas, on a rodeo scholarship. He was employed as a turbine mechanic for Siemens Westinghouse for the past 15 years, where he traveled all around the United States at various power plants and industrial sites. He had also worked on off-shore drilling rigs as a crane operator, for Teledyne Movable Offshore Inc. He did this for many years prior to his current job. He was a member of the PRCA and USTRC rodeo associations. He competed in bareback riding and bull riding and later moved on to team roping in the early 90s. He married Gay Nelson Burns March 21, 1984, in Ada. He is survived by his wife, Gay Burns of Konawa; his son and daughter-in-law, Cody and Karin Allen of Konawa; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and John David Hanson of Ada; his mother, Nelma Burns of Konawa; brother Bobby W. Burns of Clayton, New Mexico; sister Beverly Burns-Henshall of Konawa, and his grandchildren Brianna Hanson, Carter Hanson, Elisa Allen and Ella Allen. He is also survived by his nephews Zach and Tyler Henshall and Wes Burns, and a niece, Ali Burns-Pilgram. He was preceded in death by his father, E.M.
