Ms. Cottingham died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at a Shawnee hospital. She was born Nov. 25, 1937, at Ada to Mayo and Melba Myers Cottingham. She lived in this area all her life and attended Ada schools. Ms. Cottingham was the owner and operator of Mother Goose's High Hopes Liquor Store in Ada. She was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include a sister, Cathey Lamb of Phoenix, Arizona; two nieces, Shelley Ross Hamby and husband, Jim, of Ada and Teala Lamb Schwartz and husband, Dave, of Phoenix, Arizona; two nephews, Max Ross of Palm Desert, California, and Travis Lamb of Phoenix, Arizona; her great-nieces, Allie and Samantha Schwartz, both of Phoenix, Arizona, and Kuira Ross of Palm Desert, California; her great-nephew, Jonathan Ross of Ada; and a special friend, Wanda Whittington. Robert (Bob) Craig Penrod, 78, died peacefully Monday morning, Sept. 1, 2014, at his home in Roff with his family by his side. He was born Oct. 16, 1935, on a farm at Pickett to Luke and Lou Penrod. He grew up in the Ada area and graduated from Vanoss School. It was there he met the love of his life for 61 years, Mary Catherine Maddox. He served in the United States Army. Mr. Penrod worked in construction for many years, as well as operated several successful businesses. He is preceded in death by his parents Luke and Lou Marie; four brothers, Lowel, J.L., Lester and Lowell; two sisters, Gertrude Jackson and Beatrice Quick. Mr. Penrod is survived by his wife Mary of Roff; four daughters, Karen Shackelford and husband Jerry of McAlester, Susan Moore and husband Danny of Alex, Becky Poe and life partner Stan Purvis of College Station, Texas, and Deana Tuley and husband Jay of Ada; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren: Scott Ward and children Lane, Kennedy and Connor of Muskogee; Katie Stinchcomb and husband Rodney and children Stevie and Spencer of McAlester; Kevin Moore and wife Renee and children, Dakota, Arizona; Montanna James, Mckenzie Beatey, Lexi and Marie Moore of Duncan; Kayla Smith and husband Scott and son Jackson of Chickasha; Emily Cox and husband Alex and son Troy of Spring, Texas; Matthew Poe and wife Nikki and children Gunner, Ella and Eli, of Little Rock, Arkansas; Ashley Poe of College Station, Texas; Alyson Tuley and sons Jaylon and Carter Wortham of Ada. Mrs. Horton and her husband were the owners and operators of the Tiger Drive-In in Roff and a feed store and trucking company in Sulphur. Previously, she had been employed with Callaway Nursing Home in Sulphur. She was of the Baptist faith. He was a meat cutter for over 50 years while living in California, active in the Butchers Local and was a member of Cornerstone Assembly of God Church. He was also a member of the Angus Association and the California Cattleman Association for 40 years. He is survived by his wife of more than 61 years, Jo Anna of the home; two sons, Phillip Deaver of Duncan and Paul Deaver of Kharkiv, Ukraine; one brother Earl Deaver and wife Sylvia of Gainesville, Texas; two sisters, Dorothy Wilson of Edmond and Mildred Burns of Dallas, Texas; and a host of family members and close friends. He worked as a brick and stone mason, retiring at the age of 75. His work can be seen all around Ada and the surrounding areas. He was a fourth generation brick and stone mason. He also taught brick masonry at Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in France. He was an active member of Oak Avenue Baptist Church for 47 years, where he served as Sunday school director for over 11 years and Sunday school teacher for a couples class for a number of years. In 2009 he and his wife started attending Ada First Baptist Church. He was an active member of Jerry Wells? Sunday school class until his health kept him confined to home. She preceded him in death Feb. 16, 2001. He later married Dolores Leemhuis on March 21, 2003. Mr. Davis was a supervisor and manager for American General Life Insurance Company until his retirement. He was a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church and served as an ordained deacon in churches both in Del City and Stillwater. He served as a board member of several Christian organizations. He was a member of the Gideon's International and the American Legion. Mr. Davis was a volunteer for Valley View Regional Hospital for over 10 years. Mr. Davis served in the U. S. Coast Guard and the Merchant Marines from October 1944 until being honorably discharged in August 1945. He began his career as a broker with Employer's Insurance Company of Wausau, which led to a lifelong career in insurance and investments. Charles was an avid sports fan and gifted athlete. He was an all-state high school football champion, an excellent swimmer and diver, a scratch golfer and possessor of an encyclopedic knowledge of players, teams and sports statistics. His knowledge and stories of the game delighted his four sports-minded grandsons, who are all loyal Sooners and Thunder fans as a result of ?Buck's? love of Oklahoma sports.
