Mrs. Carter passed away Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015, at a local hospital. She was born Feb. 28, 1943. in St. Louis, Oklahoma, to Johnny and Ruth Kuykendall Miller. She attended Byng schools. She married Jim Carter Dec. 1, 1982. Mrs. Carter was a beautician and shop owner at Sulphur Springs, Texas, and later an instructor for beauticians. She was a member of the First Christian Church. Survivors include her husband, Jim, of the home; two stepsons, Bruce Carter of Edmond and Randy Carter of Oklahoma City; and two sisters, Oleta Cartwright of California and Charlsie Wilson of Ada. Mr. May was an oilfield mechanic and later retired as an auto mechanic. He served in the U. S. Navy in Guam from 1952 until 1954. She was born Nov. 2, 1932, in Dougherty to James E. Suther and Goldie May Baker Suther. Georgia attended schools in Dougherty and Sulphur. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from East Central University in Ada. She and J. D. Haney were married Feb. 3, 1951. They established J. D.?s Caf? in Ada in 1955. She also taught in the Homer school system and the Ada City School system, where she was instrumental in the establishment of the Washington School Library. Following her retirement from teaching, she opened Georgia?s Gift Shop located at J.D.?s Caf?. She is survived by three children, all of Ada. William died Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, in Holdenville. William was born May 14, 1929, in Prague to Joshua and Dora May (Curtis) Colbert. He graduated from Gerty High School in 1948. William served his country in the United States Army and during the Korean conflict. He later attended East Central University. He was a member of the Church of Christ and the Holdenville VFW post. He resided in Helena, Montana, for over 22 years, where he worked for the Montana Carpenters Union and later retired. He loved fixing things and could always be found outside, working on his latest project. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Jack, Jesse, James, Dolphus, Lee and sister Loraine. Brad was a great father for his two children, Ciera and Chase, a loving son and brother and an awesome uncle. His infectious laugh and gigantic heart touched everyone that he came into contact with. He was born April 13, 1932, to Hollan and Nannie (Chester) Veach on the farm near Milburn. He began his education at Wapanuka. When he was 8 years old, he moved with his family to a farm northeast of Ada. He attended Homer Grade School and graduated from Byng High School in 1950. After serving in the U.S. Army James moved to Del City, where he met and married the love of his life, Imogene Mings, on Aug. 3, 1956. Together they raised two sons, Lester Harold Veach and Charles Wesley Veach. James worked for Demco Co. as a machinist for many years. Toward the end of his career, he worked as a building engineer for Mid-Del Schools. It was there that he was able to use his talents to serve handicapped children. James enjoyed the simple things of life such as fishing and good country cooking, which he usually obtained at Madison?s caf? in Del City. He could repair anything and loved automobiles, but nothing could take the place of the love and joy he felt when he was with his family. Spending time with them was always the best part of his day. James is survived by his two sons, Lester of Talladega, Alabama, and Charlie of Houston, Texas, as well as his sister, Leatrice Bouse of College Station, Texas; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Denny passed away from this life on Nov. 4, 2015, at her home. She was born Nov. 22, 1928, at Prescott, Arkansas, to Lynton Earl and Lenna Beaty Wesson. She graduated from high school in Emmet, Akansas, in 1946, then attended Magnolia A&M (now Southern Arkansas State University) and Arkansas State Teachers College, earning a BSE degree and membership in Alpha Chi Honor Society. She went on to obtain a master?s degree in education from the University of Arkansas and a master?s degree in home economics from Colorado State University. In Arkansas, she taught home economics at Emerson High School from 1951-54, Wynne High School in 1955 and the College of the Ozarks in Clarksville from 1955-1961. She came to Ada to teach at East Central State College in 1961-62. She married Dr. Donald Paul Denny on Aug. 15, 1962 in Midland, Texas, and became a homemaker. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Ada and was active in the United Methodist Women and Golden Agers. She was a founding member of the Pontotoc County Historical and Genealogical Society and was also a member of Faculty Wives and a long-standing member of the Music Department of the Fortnightly Study Club. Survivors include a daughter, Leslie Anne Burnet, and husband Donald of Los Angeles, California; a grandson, Paul Burnet of Los Angeles, California; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and five brothers, Earl, Joe, James, Raymond and John Wesson. He previously resided in Bristol, Florida. Rudy is best known for his musical talents and contributions to the country and bluegrass music industry with his custom-built resophonic guitars. He became legend in the 1970s and 80?s for making some of the best walnut body dobros ever, two of which now reside in the Country Music Hall of Fame. She was the youngest of four children. Virginia and Robert Johnson met on a blind date where they were introduced by his best friend, Dudley, and his wife Jolene. They were married four months later on Oct. 17, 1975. From this union two children were born. Virginia graduated from Mansfield High School in Mansfield, Texas. After raising her children, she went to college and received her bachelor?s degree July 31, 2002; her master?s degree on May 4, 2005; and on Oct. 1, 2012, she received her certificate as a licensed professional counselor. She received her pilot?s license in 1985. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, James Creech and one sister, Betty Wilson. She is survived by her husband, Robert Johnson, of the home; one son, Logan Johnson, of the home; one daughter, Kristian Headrick of Broken Arrow; one sister, Rene? Following graduation, she worked in the office of the state auditor in Oklahoma City. She met and married Stearley P. Harrison, M.D., in 1942, and the family moved from Oklahoma City to Ada in 1950. Martha Nell spent the remainder of her career as a housewife and loving mother. She enjoyed gardening and reading and was an avid bridge player. In Ada she was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She also valued her time working at The Gift House in downtown Ada. James married Wilma Mullins in 1942. She preceded him in death in 1970. In 1978, he married Leota Dveney Hester. James was a retired rancher. He also taught and coached in Stonewall and Tupelo. He served as principal of Emerson Elementary School in Coalgate and was the superintendent of schools at Tupelo and Wanette. James was a proud veteran of World War II. He served with the U.S. Army 117th Calvary Reconnaissance. He fought in the battles of Rome-Arno and Rhineland. He was awarded the EAME ribbon with two bronze service stars, the WWII Victory Ribbon and the Purple Heart for wounds he received in France on Dec. 3, 1944. Survivors include his wife, Leota of the home; a son, Jim McDaniel and his wife Marilyn of Ada; grandchildren James G. Eugene Dale Phelps, Gene, died Nov. 12, 2015, at VA Medical in Oklahoma City. He was born July 17, 1926, to Donald D. and Evadna Kinder Phelps in Edmond. After Evadna?s untimely death, Don married Vera Miller Phelps. They raised Gene Phelps, Patricia Phelps Bonar and Marian Phelps Dozier. During World War II, Gene studied at Duke as a navy seaman second class. Later he served as ensign in the Navy Reserves. Gene was a OU business graduate before working as an accountant and office manager for energy producers in Oklahoma and Colorado. Around 1950 Gene married Virginia G. Phelps, who was born in 1919 and died in 2003 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They lived in Oklahoma, Florida, Colorado and Nevada. Gene enjoyed golf and dogs and long view vistas. Gene returned to Ada from Las Vegas in 2013 and enjoyed living at Ada Baptist Village before entering VA care. He married Marian Robuck in 1945. She preceded him in death in May 1990. Mr. Fuller was the general manager for Frisco Railroad, which merged with Frisco and Burlington Northern Railroad in 1980. He retired as the vice president of operations. Mr. Fuller served in the U.S. Army and the Army Air Corps during World War II in the Pacific theater as a tail-gunner on a B-24 bomber. He completed 43 missions with the Bomber Barons in the Pacific theater. Survivors include his daughter, Alice Lynn Harrell of Ada; a son, Robert R. He was retired from the navy where he served for over 20 years, and then he worked as a mechanic until he retired in 2006. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed fishing.
