Fitter passed away at Fort Worth, Texas, on January 24, 2015, at the age of 88. Sy was born January 25, 1926 in Altus, OK, to John Michael & Lola McGuire Fitter, one of eight children. He grew up in Altus, OK,and after high school graduation went to Oklahoma A. & M. College in Stillwater, OK, on a football scholarship. After one semester, Sy joined the U. S. Merchant Marine for service during WW II. He served aboard ships in both the Atlantic and Pacific War Zones and participated in the Philippine Liberation. He also later served in the Army and Air Force. After WW II he returned to Oklahoma A. & M. College and completed his B.A. degree in 1950. He was a three-year letterman in football. Sy married Peggy Moseley June 9, 1951. Together they raised four children. While living in Ada, he was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ada Lions Club and was the first Branch Manager for the Social Security Administration in Ada. Throughout his life, he did a lot of farming and eventually owned the Fitter farm his family homesteaded in 1890. He had a love for polka music and dancing, always looking forward to traveling to the next polka festival. He loved to entertain family and friends with humorous stories, many stemming from his own real-life experiences. His stories are treasures his children will continue to cherish. Above all, his children will forever remember his constant love and support he gave so freely. He was a man of faith and lived his life with principles and integrity. He was a loving husband and father. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy, and a granddaughter. Survived by his four children, Sidney Fitter and wife, Kelley, Patricia Cox and husband, Daryl, Deborah Perry and husband, Lynn, and Evelyn Parsons and husband, Patrick; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Services for Sy Fitter are 2 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2015, at St. Francis Village Catholic Chapel, 10 St. Elizabeth Drive, Crowley, TX 76036. Services for James C. Cox, 80, of Wewoka are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Wewoka Church of Christ and burial at Oakwood Cemetery. Officiating will be Harold Kimrey and Bud Ross. Mr. Cox died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, at a Shawnee hospital. He was born Jan. 25, 1935, in Wewoka to the late Carl Cox and Mabel (Harris) Cox. He was a graduate of Wewoka High School in 1953 and General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan. He operated Cox Oldsmobile along with his father for a number of years. On March 31, 1955, he married Shirley Spears in Wewoka. He was a member of Church of Christ, Wewoka. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Shirley Cox; two sons, Keith Cox and wife, Kelleya, Mark Cox and wife, Pam; two brothers, Johnny and Joe Cox; one sister, Jane Buchanon; five grandchildren, Chris, Clint, Carrie, Amy and Jennifer; seven great-grandchildren, Grady, Graham, Griffin, Caden, Hudson, August, and Graycee; and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Steele died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at the Sulphur Veterans Center. He was born June 1, 1931, in Bebee to Newton Scott and Ethel Louise Thomas Steele. He attended Irving grade school. Mr. Steele was employed with KTEN Television as a cameraman, and he was an original member of the Ranch Hand's Band at KTEN. He was a disc jockey in Ada and Atoka and later was a painter for the physical plant at East Central University. He served in the U.S. Air Force from July 12, 1949, until being honorably released on July 11, 1950, with the rank of corporal. Survivors include his wife, Jeannine Steele, of the home; two daughters, Tonya Oke of Shady Cove, Oregon, and Rene? They moved to Allen in 1958. Mr. Shires was a signal maintainer for Union Pacific Railroad, retiring after 42 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Allen. The service will be hosted by Laurie Phillips and Deanna Morrison. Mr. Wolman died Jan. 26, 2015, at an Oklahoma City hospital after a lengthy battle with kidney and heart problems. He was born March 7, 1970, at Beale Air Force Base in California to LaDawna and Allen Woltman. He grew up in both California and Oklahoma but considered Oklahoma his home. He was a designer of custom jewelry and prmarily worked in silver, glass and gemstones. He also worked with leather, handmade beads, wood, stone and clays. His creations were sold at art and craft shows from coast to coast. He is survived by parents Glenn and LaDawna Denslow of Ada; his father Allen Woltman; one brother Wayne Woltman of Ada; aunt and uncle Pike and Shelly Word of Perkins; grandfather Pike Word, Sr., of Elk City; grandparents Helen and Jesse Denslow of Ada; and various nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life for Bob Watts, 79, of Mesquite, Nevada, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at First Baptist Church, 700 Hardy Way, Mesquite, Nevada. Mr. Watts died Jan. 21, 2015. He was born Richard Dean Watts in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma, Jan. 31, 1935, to Luther and Nellie Watts. He has two brothers, Neil and Galen, and three sisters, Eileen, Catherine and Patricia. Bob married Myrtice Marr June 27, 1964, in Taft, California. They celebrated their 50th Wedding anniversary last year. He graduated from Tecumseh High in Tecumseh, Oklahoma, Class of ?53, where he was class president. He attended the University of Oklahoma from 1953 to 1955. He joined the Oklahoma Air National Guard in 1955, became a pilot, reaching the rank of Major and served his country honorably. Mr. Watts attended San Diego State University and spent his working career as a fireman in San Diego and Escondido, California. He joined the Escondido FD in 1974 and became chief for the city of Escondido in 1982, serving until his retirement in 1992. He and Mrs. Watts moved to Mesquite in 2007. They drove many miles in their RV, visiting all fifty states and Canada, also traveling in many foreign countries with family and friends. They are members of First Baptist Church, Mesquite. He is survived by his wife Myrtice; brothers Neil Watts, Sonora, California, and Galen Watts, Ramona, California; and his two nephews, Skip Ward, Vista, California, and Larry Ward, Mesquite, Nevada. JOHNSON WELLSTON ? Services for H.J. Johnson, 93, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, at Lehman Funeral Home in Wellston with burial following in the Wellston Cemetery. Mr. Johnson died Feb. 10, 2015. He had been in residence at the Norman Veterans Center in Norman since November of 2014. He was born Dec. 8, 1921, in Byng to his father, Hugh L. ?Huey J.? Johnson and mother Bertha May Johnson-Dickey. He graduated Byng High School in 1939 and began his college curriculum at Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater. He enrolled in Army ROTC but his almost-completed bachelor of science degree was halted following the events of Dec. 7, 1941, wherein he began his professional military career at Officer's Candidate School in Fort Benning, Georgia. Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and in route to the west coast, and eventually the Pacific Theatre, he married Geraldine Marquerite Roberts of Ada in Kingman, Arizona, June 16, 1944. Following their short honeymoon, they remained apart until shortly after VJ Day. Before his embarkation, he underwent amphibious training under the USMC in southern California and joined with the 96th Division, ?The Dead Eyes,? under Maj. Gen. James L. Bradley. Following continued amphibious training in the Hawaiian Islands, they were put on loan to Gen. Douglas MacArthur to make the land assault on the Philippines during the ?Battle of Leyte Gulf.? Following was the largest amphibious assault during the Pacific campaign, ?The Battle of Okinawa? where he landed on Easter Sunday, 1945, and was wounded. Returning from his duty, he quickly completed his Bachelor's Degree in Agronomy at Oklahoma A&M and began teaching vocational agriculture on the Veterans Program in Lexington. The family started with David Alan Johnson, born Sept. 5, 1947, in Purcell. During that time he met with V.C. Bratton, owner and founder of Gilt Edge Dairy in Norman, and took the position as procurement manager. He served as a trustee in 1963 and a deacon in 1967 at First Presbyterian in Norman. As a citizen soldier, a Captain in the 45th National Guard, he was called again to active duty during the Korean War and led a unit from Fort Sill to Camp Baumholder, Germany, assigned to the 2nd Armored division. The conflict ended and he returned again as a citizen soldier, his job intact at Gilt Edge, and the family increased with the birth of Jay Michael Johnson Aug. 8, 1957. The opportunity for a second career began with Economics Laboratories in 1972 which took the family to Dallas, Texas, as District Manager for Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico until he retired and returned to Ada. She met her future husband, Thomas Floyd Haynes, in September 1936, and they were married Jan. 31, 1942, following Pearl Harbor. The union lasted 55 years when he preceded her in death Sept. 13, 1997. Following his four years in the military service, the couple made their home in Alice, Texas, for the next 22 years. While there, their family grew to include a son, Drexel Vanoy, and a daughter, Twila LaVoy. The family was active in the First Baptist Church in Ardmore. She moved to Ada in 2000, where she was a member of the Morris Memorial Baptist Church. In addition to her church activity, she served in various other positions that included six years with the Alice Independent School District as secretary and registrar and manager of Fabrific Dry Good Store. She retired in 1986 as secretary/treasurer for Enon Baptist Association, Ardmore. She was also preceded in death by her son, Drexel Vanoy, at the age of 42; her parents; three brothers, Kenneth Harold, Arthur Lee Jr. and Troy Jesse; and two sisters: Zelda Charlene and Nona Marie Boyd.
