JAMES ARDEN THOMAS, JR. September 3, 1953 - April 20, 2015 After a brief illness, Jamie Thomas passed away April 20, 2015 in Denver, Colorado with his family at his side. Jamie was born to Ethel Faye ("Tot") Tomlin Thomas and Dr. James Arden Thomas, Sr. in Ada, Oklahoma. At Ada High School, Jamie was a star scholar-athlete and was named to the All-State football team his senior year. As a scholarship football player at the University of Oklahoma, Jamie was a three-year letterman on teams that won two national championships, including the 1975 national title team on which Jamie was starting linebacker and defensive captain. Preceding him in death were his parents, James and Tot Thomas. Survivors include: sisters Mary Ann Lamb and husband Scott of Sunbright TN; Sandy Reece of Denver CO; nephews Thomas Brett Reece and family, Leena, Riley, Canon, and Travis of Denver CO; Ernest Cody Reece and family, Liz, Connor, and Brady, also of Denver CO; aunt Donna Tomlin of San Antonio TX; cousins Joe K. Thomas and wife, Rita of Poteau OK; Linda Kulp and husband Victor of Tulsa OK; Janet Pitt of Oklahoma City OK; Annette Henry of New Mexico; Linda Young of Texas; and numerous other cousins and many caring friends throughout the U.S. and across continents whose friendship Jamie cherished, including his close friend, Ana Jean Marfa of Chiang Mai, Thailand. After completing his football career and graduating from OU with a B.S. degree in Microbiology, Jamie pursued his interest in health sciences and graduated from the Oklahoma College of Dentistry. His first professional position was in Tulsa, OK where he was a staff dentist at the Hissom Memorial Center for children with mental disabilities. Two years later, he was admitted to Boston University for post-graduate studies where he completed his M.S. degree in Endodontics Dentistry. Jamie remained in Boston for several years as a member of the Boston University faculty and established a local endodontics practice. Thereafter, Jamie relocated to California and pursued his endodontics practice in Santa Barbara, later in Anaheim, and then Ukiah CA. Acting on his avid interest in foreign travel, Jamie qualified to practice endodontics in numerous foreign jurisdictions. As such, he practiced and taught general dentistry and endodontics in Australia, New Zealand, and later in Chiang Mai, Thailand. He was thankful for the numerous friends that were able to accept his enthusiastic invitations to visit him during his residencies in such special places abroad. Notwithstanding his accomplishments in sports, in academics and professionally, Jamie was extraordinarily humble, kind and generous. He possessed an infectious wit and loveable sense of humor--that was often accentuated by a burst of hearty laughter that was uniquely Jamie and endearing to all. To get to know Jamie was a pleasure; and once you knew him, he was not someone you could forget. Jamie never sought luxuries or social status. Extraordinary for these times in which we live, Jamie was incredibly frugal and not motivated by possessions. He truly appreciated and sought life's simpler pleasures, and deliberately avoided unnecessary clutter. He readily enjoyed playing catch with his nephews in the front yard, and was easily satisfied to merely spend time with his family and many friends, wherever they might be. Jamie will be greatly missed. At this time, there are no funeral arrangements. Jamie's family requests no flowers. If you wish, a financial contribution may be made In Memory of Jamie Thomas and directed to East Central University Foundation or another foundation or charity of your choice. (East Central University Foundation, Inc., 1100 E. 14th , PMB Y-8, Ada, OK 74820.) Please know that during these recent and difficult months, Jamie's family was humbled and touched by the tremendous outpouring of love, concern and support for Jamie from his many friends throughout Oklahoma, across the U.S. and in numerous countries abroad. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all. =============================================================================================================== The Ada News, Ada, OK, Pontotoc County Tuesday, April 28, 2015 ROY WILSON COALGATE ?
