A Celebration of Life memorial for former Ada resident, James E. Davidson, 73, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, in the Addington Baptist Church in Addington. James passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, at his home in Comanche. James was born March 12, 1942, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to the late Jess and Dannie Green Davidson. He graduated high school at Latta and received an associate degree in diesel mechanics from Okmulgee Tech. He worked as a John Deere mechanic in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, Wisconsin and Texas. James was a soft spoken man whose word was his bond. He enjoyed his family and friends, his church, auction sales, deer hunting and going to the coffee shop. He saw the good in people and in life. His smile and sense of humor brought joy and laughter to others. A celebration of the life of Roy Marshall McGehee was held at 2 p.m. Monday at Stonewall First Baptist Church. The Revs. Kelly Benson and Richard Dickerson officiated. Mr. McGehee, age 76, was born Oct. 8, 1939, at home in Pontotoc, and passed away Friday, Jan. 1, 2016, at his home in Jesse. Mr. McGehee formerly worked at the Ada Sale Barn and Whittle?s, and later worked for the Oklahoma State Highway Department until his retirement. He was a cowboy in the truest sense of the word, never happier than with a rope in one hand and a set of reins in the other. He and his son were a dandy heading and heeling team. He was also a rancher and avid horseman. A skilled farrier, he began shoeing horses at age 14 and continued until 2012. Mentored as a young man by rodeo greats Everett Shaw and Fat Truitt, Mr. McGehee in turn mentored many younger men himself. A skilled craftsman, many people across the country have gifts he braided, from keychains to reins to belts and more. He leaves behind a legacy of excellence. He was a member of the Fittstown Church of Christ. Following the death of her father, her mother married James Stansel, a traveling photographer. She and her family moved to Ada in 1945. She married Ben H. Todd May 25, 1946. The marriage was blessed with four children, Bardie, Gloria, Johnny and Rickie. Ellen and Ben built Lakewood Golf Course and following Ben?s death on Dec. 12, 1979, Ellen operated the golf course. She married Quinton Story Brooks on Aug. 16, 1943. He preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 1989. Mrs. Brooks moved to Ada in 1995 from Paden. She was a homemaker and an active member of First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Mature Melody Makers senior adult choir and was active in her Sunday school class. Mrs. Brooks had been a longtime member of the Valley View Hospital Auxiliary. Survivors include two daughters, Carla Little and her husband, Larry of Fitzhugh and Lisa Roberts of Ada; a son, Terry Brooks and wife, Linda of Lindsay; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Brooks of Moore; one sister, Joy June Mitchell of Arlington, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She received a master?s degree from East Central University in Ada and retired from teaching at Latta Elementary. She married Joe Edward Collins on Aug. 20, 1955, in Ada. Douglas Ann loved gardening, raising English Bulldogs, playing cards and reading. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Konawa. She is survived by two sons, Joe Major Collins and his wife, Suanne of Mounds, and Tony Collins and his wife, Bobbi of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; two brothers, David Smith and his wife, Susan of Ada and Dusty Smith and his wife, Brenda of Ada; one brother-in-law, Gene Thomas of Ada; and two grandchildren, Constance and Nathan Collins. Fred was born Dec. 2, 1928, in Stonewall. He married his beloved Delores Ramona (Mona) Johnson on June 4, 1950, in Stillwater, and their loving relationship flourished for 52 years until her death in March 2003. Fred received his bachelor?s degree from Oklahoma A&M College (now Oklahoma State University) and was honorably discharged from the Air Force with the rank of captain. He excelled as owner and operator of KRSL radio station in Russell, Kansas, and KYFM radio station in Bartlesville. Fred was an early innovator in FM radio and brought in the latest technical advancements of that time period in radio broadcasting. He was elected president of the Oklahoma Broadcasters Association in 1974. He also served his alma mater and students in several important ways, including serving as national president of the OSU Alumni Association and president of the OSU Foundation and through establishment of an academic scholarship in the name of Fred and Mona Thompson to support academic scholarships for deserving OSU students. Fred was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Rae Thompson; his mother, Clara Mae Thompson; his wife, Delores Ramona (Mona) Thompson; his brother, Billy H. Thompson; and his sister, Betty Rae Duty. Fred is survived by three children, F. Lindon Thompson Jr. of Broken Arrow, R. Jan Hoyer of Broken Arrow and Vicki E. Bickford of Tulsa; two sisters, Patsy Stone of Houston, Texas, and Linda Leach of Stonewall; and former sister-in-law (Billy H. Thompson) Barbara Skelton; four grandsons, David R. Thompson, Gregory L. Thompson, Benjamin L. Prentice and Brian G. Prentice; and by the newest addition to the family, his first great-grandchild, Ramona (Mona) Grace Prentice. James Larry (Sarge) Hallmark, 71, of Idabel passed away Jan. 11, 2016, in Idabel. He was born March 19, 1944, in Lamesa, California, the son of Henry and Inez Hallmark. Larry served in the U.S. Army, retiring in the mid-90?s. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving there from February of 1967-1968 with the 9th Infantry Division. Larry was administrator of the Det. 1, Company A, 1st of 180th 45th S.I.B., ARNG. Staff Sgt. Larry Hallmark was a great influence to many who served under him, and he was instrumental in the building of the new armory in the late-80?s. He worked many years at James Hodge Ford in Idabel, where he made many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. It was a wonderful home for the growing family to visit and share reunions with cousins and friends. Jeffrey Dayrus Montgomery, 61, of Ada passed away at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, at his home with his wife, daughter and son at his side. He was born July 16, 1954, in Lima, Ohio to the late Bun and Ora (Thacker) Montgomery. Jeff graduated from Ada High School in 1972 and attended Lima Technical College. He married Karen Klingenberger on Jan. 19, 1973. In April of that same year, he began working at Ford Motor Company in Lima. He retired in 2003 after 30 years of service. Jeff and Karen had two children, Carrie Hurley of Marysville, Ohio, and Heith and his wife Sarah (Shields) and their three children, Stella, Porter and Scarlett of Petersburg, Virginia. Jeff was blessed to be able to spend several days of his last two weeks visiting with family and friends. His brother Bun and wife Lucille came from Anamosa, Iowa; his sister Barb and husband Leonard Earl traveled from Nokomis, Florida; his sister Jackie and husband Marshall Trautwein were here from Crestwood, Kentucky. Many of their memories were of time spent with their brother, Forrest Michael, who preceded Jeff in death. Local family and friends came by to sit and talk with him. He deeply enjoyed the conversations and memories he shared with them. For loved ones that lived too far away to visit in person, especially his many nieces and nephews from across the country, Jeff was able to talk with them on the phone. Jeff liked watching OSU football and Kentucky Wildcats basketball games. He cherished his notes, letters and drawings from his granddaughter Stella. Jeff?s wishes were to be cremated. There will not be any services at this time. The family is planning a memorial service for this summer around his birthday. Mary attended school in Jesse, Stonewall and the Haskell Indian High School in Lawrence, Kansas, before attending nurse training in Kansas City. She married Glenn Stanford. He preceded her in death after 55 years of marriage. Mary was the driving force that facilitated Glenn?s success and graciously contributed to her community before serving as an election judge in Brazoria County, Texas. for more than 25 years, as a life member of Beta Sigma Phi, a member of the League of Women Voters, and as a precinct representative to the Texas State Republican Convention. She belonged to the Pearland, Alvin, Bayshore and Houston Garden Clubs and the Pearland Grandmas Club. Since moving from Pearland to Ada. Mary enjoyed attending the Connerville Chickasaw Community Council meetings and treasured the new friends she made. Memorial services for Dr. Roy Thomas Maxwell, 83, of Ada are at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. David Daniel will officiate. Dr. Maxwell passed away Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, in Ada. He was born March 6, 1932, in Bell County, Texas. His family were sharecroppers. Roy attended Cedar Knob Elementary School, then Mullen School, and graduated from Gustine High School. He graduated from Baylor University with a bachelor?s degree in religion in 1954. He received a M.Ed. in guidance and counseling with a minor in clinical psychology in 1957 from North Texas State University. He later received an Ed.D. in counseling psychology and personnel administration. Dr. Maxwell served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. His highest rank was corporal. He served as a company clerk in Panama during the Korean Conflict. He moved to Ada in 1962. Dr. Maxwell was a professor of psychology and from 1962 to 1992, he served as chair of the psychology department, at East Central University in Ada. He worked as a child psychologist at the guidance center part-time and had a part-time private practice. Later, Dr. Maxwell went into full-time private practice and retired from his practice in 2013. Dr. Maxwell did extensive research about varied topics such as learning, hypnosis, computer assisted diagnosis, relaxation, pain management, burnout, bilingual education (Seminole-Creek/English) and suicide prevention. In his private practice, Roy had a varied practice but also specialized in writing behavior plans for special-needs children and adults and evaluating and treating veterans with PTSD. Roy also served on the board of the Campfire Girls, and was a Mason. Over the course of his rich and blessed life, Roy enjoyed reading and learning as well as playing high school football. In high school in Gustine, Texas, Roy was required to play football in order for the school to have enough players for an eight person team. He never claimed to be good at it. He continued to be a lifelong fan of college sports. The Roy T. Maxwell family attended many an Orange Bowl when the Sooners were playing. Roy started running in the 1970s and completed a marathon in 1976. He would sometimes get up at 4 a.m. to run in the neighborhood park or would go to the college indoor track in bad weather. He loved camping and fishing, boating and sailing, playing 42, bridge, and poker for matchsticks, surrounded by friends and family. He did express some doubt about the rules of Canasta as taught to us by beloved sister-in-law, Marie. He loved ping-pong and played with daughters at home, and even occasionally in the rec-room of the First United Methodist Church in Ada. He bragged about ?holding the table? for hours when he was in the U.S. Army. That meant winning every game for two or three hours at a time against all challengers. He traveled extensively with his family, taking month-long vacations driving around the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. Roy and Gwynell toured many countries and enjoyed cruises in his later years. Survivors include his wife, Gwynell Conway Maxwell of Ada; daughter, Janet Lynn Maxwell-Conner and husband Lee Gary Conner of San Angelo, Texas; daughter, Donna Cheryl Maxwell-LeRoy and husband Jonathan Albert LeRoy of Denton, Texas; and two granddaughters, Rebecca Louise Maxwell-LeRoy, Denton, Texas, and Juliana Maxwell Conner, San Angelo, Texas. She grew up in Wewoka and graduated from Wewoka High School in 1936 and from Hills Business College in Oklahoma City. She married Lonnie Lester McGaugh on Jan. 15, 1937. He preceded her in death June 8, 2011. They were married 74 years. She and her family moved to Ada in 1962. Mrs. McGaugh was a homemaker and had also worked for McBride Clinic as the office manager and later for Carl D. Osborn, M.D., retiring in 1993. Mrs. McGaugh had many interests, including gardening, flowers and most of all, her family. She was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include two sons, Jerry McGaugh of McAlester and Jack McGaugh and his wife Lea Ann of Flint, Michigan; four grandchildren, Kevin McGaugh of Ada, Mike Christopher of Frisco, Texas, Stacy McGaugh of Cleveland, Ohio and Eric McGaugh of East Lansing, Michigan; eight great-grandchildren; and a twin sister, Nadean Cluck of Wewoka. She graduated from Shawnee High School and married George E. Haas on Oct. 26, 1945, in Shawnee. She was a member of the N.E. Free Will Baptist Church of Shawnee. She loved gardening, knitting, crocheting, writing poetry and serving in her church. Bea was also a skilled seamstress. She enjoyed serving on the Asher precinct election board, and she served as clerk for the First Oklahoma Association of Free Will Baptist for a number of years. She worked at Sears and at Kress stores. Bea loved hummingbirds and owls, but most of all, she was a mighty prayer warrior.
