Mrs. Johnson died Nov. 28, 2004, at Wynnewood. She was born May 17, 1914, at Shiloh, Ark., to John Henry and Emilie Adline Cothren. She moved with her family to the Byars/Stratford area in 1922. She attended Cottonwood School. She married Glen Johnson in 1932. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lucielle Balderson, and a granddaughter, Sherri Johnson. She lived in the Vanoss community for several years. They moved to Tucson, Ariz., in April 1956, where they owned and managed a cafe for many years. She returned to Wynnewood in 1994. Survivors include two sons, George Carroll Johnson and Charlie Ray Johnson, both of Wynnewood; a sister, Julia Kifer, Ada; seven grandchildren; and 12 great- grandchildren. William Bratcher officiated. Mr. Gray died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at a local nursing home. He was born Dec. 28, 1946, at Stratford to James Barney and Myrtle May Mercer Gray. He was a lifelong resident of Stratford and attended Stratford schools. Mr. Gray was a tractor mechanic and attended Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include five brothers, Gus Gray, Joe Gray,Jake Gray and G.R. Gray, all of Stratford, and Baxter Gray and wife Patsy, Stratford; a sister, Bess Swallow, Stratford; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, J. B. Donnie Knight will officiate. Mr. Nave died Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at his home. He was born September 13, 1919 at Reevesville, Illinois to Harry and Clara Tate Nave. He attended school in Illinois and received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois. Mr. Nave married Marjorie Elizabeth Fuller September 16, 1946 in Denver, Colorado. They lived in San Diego, California from 1985 until moving to Ada in October, 2003. He was the Vice-President of Administration for Chevron Oil Company, which later became Gulf Oil. He retired in 1982 after 35 years of service. Mr. Nave served in U. S. Army during World War II, he later joined the Army Reserves, retiring in 1979 as a Lt. Colonel. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Nave, of the home; one daughter, Cathy Claxton and her husband Joe, Ada; two granddaughters, Lindsay Claxton, Oklahoma City and Lesley Claxton, Ada. Ron was a 1971 graduate of Asher High School, where was an All-State selection and led Asher to two straight state titles in baseball. He also played on the state championship basketball team in 1971. He was a second-round round draft pick by the Oakland Athletics. He was wrongly incarcerated and convicted for 12 years, nine of which was on death row in the state penitentiary in McAlester. He was exonerated and found innocent on April 15, 1999. Mr. Jenkins was raised in northeast Texas and southwest Arkansas. He moved to Arkansas at age 2. He was a longtime sawmill worker. The family moved to Jones in July 1960 and to Holdenville in 1974. He was also an employee of Sneed Nursery Co., retiring in 1980. He was affiliated with Holdenville Church of the Nazarene. He married Hazel Brumfield Jenkins July 28, 1941. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Nolan, Neal and Norman; two sisters, Neva Brown and Nora Cooper; a grandson, Ronnie Lee Jenkins; and two great-grandsons, Kevin Jenkins and Steven Bauer. Rev. Jones died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at the Sulphur Veterans Center. He was born Oct. 11, 1920, at Tahlequah to Frank Montgomery Jones, Sr. and Lillie Mae Jackson Jones. He attended school at Tahlequah, graduated from Tahlequah High School and later received a Bachelor of Divinity from Southwest Bible College in Waxahachie, Texas. Rev. Jones married Clara Jewell Groat Jones April 19, 1946, in Tahlequah. She died Oct. 15, 2001, in Ada. Rev. Jones was the minister for the Assembly of God church in Ada. He pastored churches in Mulberry, Bonham and Van, Texas. He also pastored in Stigler, Ada and Wetumka. After retiring from the Wetumka church, he worked at Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada. Rev. Jones was a member of the Assembly of God church, chaplain and member of the Mature Fellowship Group, American Legion, and was also a member and past president of the Ministerial Alliance. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a Sergeant in the Infantry during the Battle of the Bulge. He received two Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. Survivors include a son, David Jones and his wife Cindy, Ada; grandsons, Sean Jones and Adam Jones of Bozeman, Montana; a brother, Joseph “Sonny” Jones, Sulphur, La.; brother-in- laws, Billy Lee Groat, Locust Grove and Emmett Hayes, LaPorte, Texas; several nieces and nephews. She had also lived in California for many years, but moved back to Holdenville in 1965. He was a painter for DX Sunray Refinery prior to World War II. He served in the U.S. Navy in Hawaii in 1942 as a sign painter and a musician with the Royal Aires Dance Band. After the war, he was employed with Tipton Sign Company, later, he was employed in Ardmore, Norman, Oklahoma City and Lawton, retiring from Knapp Sign Company, Oklahoma City. He was a member of the Allen Lodge No. 81 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. He and a group played for residents of nursing homes in Holdenville, Allen and Ada for 15 years. She also taught Sunday school for many years and was president of Priscilla Sunday school class. She married Sam Matthews Feb. 12, 1924, at Hulbert. He died in 1965. Mrs. Edwards died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Hurley Health Center in Coalgate. She was born Jan. 13, 1925, at Bromide to Willie Bond and Eliza Carney Underwood. She and Levi Edwards were married Sept. 4, 1953, in Oklahoma City. Mrs. Edwards attended New Lima Schools and was the first certified Native American Counselor in the state of Texas. She was also employed at the American Indian Center as a counselor. She was one of three founders who started the Dallas Intertribal Center in Dallas, Texas. She was also a counselor for the Kullihoma Treatment Center. She worked for the Potawatomie and Sac and Fox Tribes under the Indian Health Services in Shawnee. She also served as director at the Kullihoma Treatment Center and prior to being director she was the program coordinator and substance abuse counselor. She retired in 1997 after 24 years as a counselor and was a member of the First Indian Baptist Church in Ada. She was a lifelong resident of Ada.
