"Les" Grimes ADA, OK — Leslie H. "Les" Grimes, 71, died Saturday, August 9, 2003, at Ada, OK. He was born February 17, 1932 at Ada to Lonie H. and Edith Mae Epperson Grimes. He moved to California as a young child and later moved back to Ada after his retirement. He attended school at Lawrence Grammar School in Lawrence, OK and graduated from San Ramon High School in Danville, CA. He received a Master’s Degree in Forestry from Humboldt State College in Humboldt, CA. He was a Land Manager with the State Lands Commission for the State of California, retiring in 1993 after 30 years of service. He married Gail Ostrander on April 22, 1997 in Ada, OK. He was a Protestant. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952 until 1954. He was stationed in Alaska. He was a member of the E Clampus Vitus, X-Noble Grand Humbug, of New Helvetia Chapter #5 in Sacramento, CA; member of the Veterans of Foreigh Wars in California, Life-time member of the CAN Duck Club in Sonoma, CA and a member of the Ada Elk’s Lodge #1640. Survivors include his wife, Gail Grimes, of the home; 1 son: Lorne Grimes & wife, Cammy, Loomis, CA; 1 daughter: Julie Cobene & husband, Harold, Sacramento, CA; 1 grandson, Brandon Grimes, Loomis, CA; 1 granddaughter, Sierra Grimes, Loomis, CA; 2 sisters: Jean Dunning & husband, Bern, Stockton, CA and Barbara Roggash, Cupertino, CA; 1 Aunt: Peggy Gilliam, Ada and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a step-brother, Claude Johnson. He and his wife Gail, moved to Ada, OK in 1997 and thoroughly enjoyed their home, relaxing, reading, going to Auctions, boating and traveling in their motorhome to many beautiful places. She called him her "Southern Gentleman"! He will be dearly missed.
