Submitted by Rita Floyd. -------------------------------------------------------- LOIS HELLMAN MESQUITE, NEVADA Lois Sims Hellman, age 60, died peacefully at her home in Mesquite, Nevada on Wednesday, June 11,2003. She was born July 26, 1942 in Ada, Oklahoma to George Washington and Dena Thelma Coots Sims. Lois was raised in Ada and had later lived in Portland, Oregon and Joplin, Missouri. On October 5, 1968, she married Irvin Jerry Hellman in Ada, Oklahoma. Lois and Irvin moved to Billings, Montana where they raised their children. They moved to Denver, Colorado in 1980 and resided there for 17 years. They retired to Mesquite in 1997. Lois had worked as a cage manager at the Eureka Casino in Mesquite. Lois was an active and devoted member of the Catholic Church. She had been active in the Elks Lodge in Denver, and had given freely of her time and talents to numerous worthwhile causes throughout her life. She did beautiful crochet work and she enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading. Lois loved to bowl with her friends. She is dearly loved by her family and will be greatly missed. Survivors include her husband, Irvin, of Mesquite; two sons, Jerry (Cherie) Hellman of Billings, Montana and Alan (Georgia) Hellman of Springerville, Arizona; her mother, Dena "Granny" Sims of Ada, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three brothers and six sisters. She was preceded in death by her son, Melvin "Jackie" Hellman and her father, George Washington Sims. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at the Virgin Valley Mortuary, 320 Old Mill Road, Mesquite. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the Mortuary.
