Submitted by Rita Floyd. -------------------------------------------------------- Obituaries for November 7 - 14, 2002 -------------------------------------------------------- OBITUARIES FOR Thursday, NOVEMBER 7, 2002 CLARENCE BRATCHER RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Graveside services for Clarence Archie "Toad" Bratcher, 83, Sun City, were Oct. 8, 2002, at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area No. 2. Family members officiated the service. He was honored with a full military service. Mr. Bratcher died Oct. 3, 2002. He was born Feb. 6, 1919, near Stratford, Okla., to Thomas Harrison and Alice Victoria Edwards Bratcher. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following the war, he worked in an auto parts store and did mechanic work in Stratford. He later relocated to California where he was employed by Douglas Aircraft until his retirement. He later moved to Sun City. Survivors include his wife, Louise Bratcher, of the home; four children, Dwayne, Diane, Linda and Lou, all of California; two brothers, Shortie Bratcher, Roff, and Bill Bratcher, Ada; a sister, Ruby Wadlow, Ravia; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Burial follows at Mill Creek Cemetery. Mrs. Pitmon died Nov. 5, 2002, at Tishomingo. She was born June 11, 1929, at Mill Creek to Jessie and Addie Lewis Garrison. She was a lifetime resident of the Mill Creek area and graduated from Mill Creek High School. She married Arvel Pitmon Oct. 8, 1951, at Durant. Mrs. Pitmon had worked at Clements Grocery for more than 20 years and served as the Mill Creek Post Office relief worker for 18 years. Family visitation is today from 6p.m. to 8 p.m. at Clagg Funeral Home in Sulphur. Survivors include her husband, Arvel Pitmon, of the home; four daughters, Shirley Patrick and Bonnie Clark, both of Mill Creek, Wanda Sipes, Oklahoma City, and Arvella Northrip, Ryan; a sister, Hazel Cook, Mill Creek; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was born Sept. 8, 1908, at Renner, Texas, to Philip Bethea and Annie Delcina Ernstmeyer Hamer. She was a 1926 graduate of Roff, Okla. High School and attended East Central University, Ada, Okla.. She graduated from Fort Hays State University. She married B.W. Weems on Aug. 17, 1928, at Norman, Okla.. He died May 15, 1993. Mrs. Weems was an elementary school teacher. She was a member of Eastern Star, Roff, United Methodist Church of Quinter, National Education Association and Kansas Teacher Association. Survivors include three sons, Bryan Weems Jr., Scott City, Kan., James Weems, Eagan, Minn., and Dr. Bruce Weems, Ada; three daughter, Janice Robert, Quinter, Catherine Lee, Wichita, Kan., and Gayle Sullivan, Superior, Neb.; two brothers, Ralph Hamer and Raymond Hamer; a stepbrother, Robert Hamer; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. Steve Wilburn officiating. Burial follows at East Hill Cemetery, Roff. Mr. Austin died Nov. 5, 2002, at a local hospital. He was born Oct. 6, 1916, at Roff to Stewart and Hortense Thompson Austin. He attended Roff School and was a custodian at Byng. He was also a farmer. He served as a cannoneer in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a private first class in Battery A, Field Artillery Battalion. He received several military awards, including a EAME Theater ribbon, a Silver Star, American Theater ribbon, Good Conduct medal and World World II Victory ribbon. Freddie Clark officiating. Burial follows at Athens Cemetery. Miss Watson died Nov. 2, 2002, at a local hospital. She was born Feb. 9, 1931, at Boswell to John Hester and Arillion Watson. She moved to this area from Boswell as a youth and attended school at Napier. She was employed with the state of Oklahoma in the Pontotoc County Health Department as a community health worker. She retired in 1995 after 25 years of service. She was active in the Reaper Baptist Church and volunteered at her church clinic and going to the homes of shut-ins for medical services. Survivors include two daughters, Sheila King and Renae Peoples, both of Ada; and a son, Michael Watson, Ada. She was preceded in death by a son. Eddie Malphrus officiating. Burial follows at Oaklawn Cemetery, Sulphur. Mr. Johnson died Nov. 8, 2002, at a Sulphur hospital. He was born Nov. 24, 1916, at Ray City. His family moved to Sulphur in 1927 and were the owners of Our Drug Store. He married Eula Blair on June 10, 1934, at Pauls Valley. He was affiliated with the Baptist church. Survivors include his wife, Eula Blair Johnson, of the home; four daughters, Ella McDonald, Oklahoma City, Jan Foreman, Sulphur, Melissa Brown, West Yellowstone, Mont., and Jeannette Ross, Regan; six grandchildren; and 12 great- grandchildren. She was born Dec. 31, 1910, at Ada to Charles Ross and Avis Gainey Tipton. She graduated from Ada High School in 1929. She later obtained a bachelors degree of arts from East Central University in 1933. She married G.W. "Sandy" McGaha on June 23, 1940. He died Dec. 30, 2002, at Houston. Mrs. McGaha taught at various schools including Olney, Spaulding and Mill Creek. She was an active participant in the PTA, was a Cub Scouts Den Mother and a member of the Boy Scout Mother's Club while living in Tulsa. She later relocated to New Orleans, La., and Houston where she was an active member of bowling leagues, garden clubs and the AIME Petroleum Engineers Wive's Auxiliary. Survivors include a son, Charles McGaha, Reedsville, Pa.; and two grandchildren. "Jim" Hartley, 90, Ada, are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Bud Ross officiating. Burial follows at Rosedale Cemetery. Mr. Hartley died Nov. 11, 2002, at a local nursing facility. He was born July 27, 1912, in Camden County, Tenn., to P.A. and Florence Holleman Hartley. He moved with his family to Stuart when he was a child. He retired after 20- years' service from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. He was also a cattle rancher. He was affiliated with the Church of Christ. He married Grace Burrough in 1954. She died March 17, 1999. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Mary Faye McFarlin, Tulsa; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He earned a bachelor's degree in animal science from Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University). He served as Logan County 4-H agent from 1957 until 1972. He was county extension agent in Cotton County from 1972 until 1979 and in Garvin County from 1979 until 1987. He received the National Distinguished Service award in 1984 from the National County Agents Association. He also received the state Educational Award in 1967 and the state Public Information award in 1985. He was adult champion of the International Pasture and Range Judging contest in 1968. He was a deacon at Fitzhugh Baptist Church. He was a life member of the OSU Alumni Association, member of Epsilon Sigma Phi fraternity and a former member of the Rotary Club. He married Sallie Atwell June 15, 1952, at Stillwater. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Louis Lucas, July 14, 2000. Survivors include his wife, Sallie, of the home; three sons, Billy Joe Lucas Jr., Yukon, Lester Lee Lucas, Johnson, Kan., and David Lynn Lucas, Oklahoma City; his mother, Leota Lucas, Fitzhugh; and eight grandchildren. He received a bachelor's of arts degree from Hamilton College in New York in 1957 and a Ph.D. from Colorado State University in 1973. He was a vice president of ManTech Environmental from 1993-2001; supervisory research chemist with U. S. Geological Survey from 1974 to 1993; and senior chemist/staff associate with University of New Hampshire from 1973 to1974. He married Sharon Cadenhead in 1963 at Tully. He later married Jane Taylor in 1988 in Kansas City, Mo. He was a Methodist, a member of the American Chemical Association, Society for Applied Spectroscopy and Association of Chemical Engineers. He served in the U.S. Air Force. Survivors include his wife, Jane Seeley, of the home; four sons, Jim Seeley Jr., Alaska, David Martin and Carl Martin, both of Austin, Texas, and Mark Martin, Overland Park, Kan.; two daughters, Karen Seeley and Kristine Pound, both of Denver, Colo.; and eight grandchildren. She married Jimmy Coody in 1979 at Sasakwa. He died in 1979. She was employed as a switchboard operator for Valley View Regional Hospital. She was a member of Allen Church of Christ. He received his undergraduate education at Oklahoma A&M and received his master's degree in education from the University of Oklahoma. He married Frankie Fitzgerald in 1938 at Waurika. Mr. Taylor was a member of the O Club and was employed in school administration. He was a state coordinator of Vo-Tech and served on the board of Murray County Soil Conservation District and Landmark Bank. He was a member of East Main Church of Christ and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. Survivors include his wife, Frankie Taylor, of the home; three daughters, Jenne Richardson, Davis, Samme Wilson, Edmond, and Jacke McCutcheon, Edmond; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He married Patsy Ruth Freeman Feb. 3, 2001, at Pickett. Mr. Anderson was employed in various jobs in North Texas, including Kawneer Aluminum Company. He was a cross-country truck driver and retired from A. G. P. He was affiliated with the Pickett Emanuel Baptist Church and a former member of the Elks Lodge, Denison. Mr. Anderson also served in the army from 1951 until 1953. He is preceded in death by a son, Richard Anderson. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam era.
