The following is a tribute to my Mother, Jean Ogles: Sixteen years ago I entered my Mother in a "Mother of the Year" contest that a local radio station was sponsoring. Even though I already had the Mother of the Century, I decided to enter her anyway. Apparently, I had given her a copy of what I submitted to the radio station and a few days ago I found it framed and hanging on the wall in one of her spare bedrooms. After 16 years I wouldn't change one word. MOM...Such a tiny word with such a magnanimous meaning - that is if Jean Ogles is the Mom you are describing. My Mom is the most caring, understanding and unselfish person I have ever known, and believe me I have known her well for the last 38 years. As I look back on my childhood and school years, I remember that we weren't exactly blessed with riches of the monetary kind, but we were blessed many times over with something much more valuable - a Mom who gave us her most valued time and attention even though she worked away from home eight hours a day. However, I never felt that I lacked for any of the material things in life because I had something that money can't buy - a Mother who shared her life to the fullest with her children. This soft-spoken lady of 70 young years is still working as an administrator in a government office and is still giving her even more valued time to her children and grandchildren - one of which lives in her home. Even though she might not agree with my brother and myself on everything, she always stood behind us 100 percent at least until the situation was totally evaluated. Hopefully, this fine lady's genes were passed on to me as her mother's were to her, and I hope that someday my children will be able to say the same thing of their mother because I think the greatest honor any woman can have bestowed upon her is the respect and friendship of her children. Believe me, Jean Ogles, you have my total respect and you will always be my "Mother of the Year" and my best friend. Love you always, Your favorite and only daughter, Shirley James 1987 - Paid obituary
