Power, DC ADA--Services for Dr. Michael Jay Power, 42, Ada, are 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church; Dr. Bob Bender will be officiating with Chris Snowden assisting. Burial follows at Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr Power died Oct. 7, 2002. He was born January 25, 1960, at Las Cruces, New Mexico to Hugh Power and Lynn Hazday. He graduated from Norman high school in 1977, graduated from East Central University with a Bachelor Degree in Psych/Pre Med (Bachelor of Arts) in 1982, and then completed his education at Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, MO in January of 1986. He completed the four-year degree in three years attending classes during summer break. He married Michelle Southward March 14, 1999 at Ada. Mike moved back to Ada from Kansas City to begin his practice appoximately 16 years ago. He was the owner and acting Chiropractor of "Power Clinic of Chiropractic and Acupuncture." He had been honored as a Distinguished Young Man in America Colleges. He was a member in the Chiropractic Association of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State Chiropractic Association, and the Joint Chiropractic Association, as well as the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elk. He was named in Who's Who in 1994 and 1997 and was awarded the President's Golden Citation from the Chiropractic Association of Oklahoma. He was certified and held membership in the American Society of Acupuncture and the International Academy of Clinical Acupuncture. He served on the board of the Oklahoma Chiropractic Education Council and was invited to sit on the Board of Directors for Oklahaven, the Oklahoma Children's Chiropractic Center, a nationwide not-for-profit children's chiropractic center. He served as SE Regional President of Oklahoma American Association of Chiropractic Medicine and held diplomat status in chiropractic/soft tissue rehabilitation and master status in allergy elimination. He was also on the East Central Alumni Board. Survivors include; wife, Michelle of the home; parents, Hugh Power of Oklahoma City and Lynn Hazday of Ada; one son, Michael "Mikey" Power of Ada; four daughters; Lindsey Power of Ada, Megan, Jordan and Jessica Scott of the home; one brother, Eddie Power of Goshen, Indiana and his uncle Tim Hazday of Panama City, Florida. Bearers are Dr. Robert Simpson, Tracy DeLaughter, Ron McDaniel, Dr. Derek Collins, Steve Garrison and Don Carpenter. Smith-Phillips Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. -- Paid Obituary -- =============================================================================== Sunday, October 13, 2002 Ada Evening News, Ada, OK PAT TAYLOR Patricia "Pat" Deane Mann Taylor, was born October 12, 1940 at Leonard, Tex., to Clyde and Ethel Mann. She came to this area with her family 1952 from Honey Grove, Tex. She married Darel Taylor on August 14, 1959. In the early years of their marriage, she worked for Blue Bell Wrangler Plant and Service Chevrolet. Together, they started Taylor Vending in June 1966. For years, she and her family were known for their famous Christmas display in Deer Creek. She loved setting up the different scenes and watching as the thousands drove through her driveway to look at her work. In 1993, she bough the old Lillard Furniture building in downtown Ada and restored it. On November 25, 1994, she opened her longtime dream of a gift and collectible store - The Curiosity Shop. She was an avid collector herself and loved to get anyone started collecting anything. She is survived by her husband Darel, of the home; two sons, Patrick Taylor of Ada, Chris Taylor and his wife April and their two children Garrett and Paige all of Ada; four sisters, Gwen Piland, Austin, Tex.; Ann Reed and Miggi Flatt, Ada; Martha Hall, Ponca City; and a brother, Donnie Mann, Ada. She was a fighter. She fought for what she believed in all her life. She fought her cancer with all she had and when she had fought all she could, she fought to keep our spirits up. She joined her mom, dad, two brothers, two sisters, and two grandchildren when she walked through the gates of Heaven. LEWIS A.J. Lewis died October 7, 2002 in the Southern Oklahoma Surgical Center, Ardmore at the age of 78. He was born December 18, 1923 in Johnson County, Okla. to Leonard L. and Beulah (Heath) Lewis. He married Tina Beard, November 10, 1953 in Fresno, Calif. where he made his home since he was a young man. They returned to Oklahoma in 1994, when he retired from Santa Fe Railroad, making their home in Ardmore. Survivors include his wife, Tina, two sisters, Audra Timmons and husband Dellis, Holdenville and Lucille Hulsey, Fittstown; a brother-in-law, Don Maxwell, Madill; two sisters-in-law, Charlsie Lewis, Cedar Vale, Kansas and Mary Lou Lewis, Dickson; three grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. His parents, two brothers, one sister, a daughter, Debra Fay and a stepson, Johnny, preceded him in death. She was born August 19, 1914 in Vanoss, OK. She was the daughter of the late Joe S. and Martha Ollive Austin Fox. She married Bill Sinclair April 5, 1933 in Stonewall, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death in January of 1985. After many years she then married Bethel Jackson in April 1993. Dorothy was a homemaker and had been the bookkeeper for the business she and Bill had owned. She had also been a hair stylist, and was known for her wonderful cooking skills. She always made the pies for all family gatherings. She was an active member of the Ada Church of the Nazarene. She loved God and she never failed to let everyone know that he was first in her life. She set a wonderful Christian example for all her family. She prayed many prayers for the people she loved and was responsible for leading many people to God. She will be missed and always loved. She is survived by her husband Bethel O. Jackson of Ada. Two daughters and their spouses, Jolene and Charles Pope of Norman, OK. Shirley and Robert C. Key of Minco, OK. Four grandsons, Bill V. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Monica was born on Aug. 5, 1963, in Phillipsburg, Kansas. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister. She loved being with her children and her work at Wal-Mart. She had worked at Wal-Mart since 1985. She graduated from Tupelo High School in tupelo, Okla., in 1981. The family would like to thank the Lake Worth Wal-Mart and Beach Street Baptist church. Penn, Johnny Pineda, Mike Dixon, Larry Hart and Chris Funck. -- Paid Obituary -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sunday, December 1, 2002 Ada Evening News, Ada, OK In loving memory of Lillian Rose Allen ADA - Lillian Rose Allen, born May 19, 1918, in Phillips, Oklahoma to Ernestine Zuech Mazzolini and Gaetano Mazzolini, died peacefully Nov. 17, 2002, in Ballard Nursing Home in Ada where she had resided since February of this year. She was laid to rest at Centrahoma Cemetery on November 21, 2002 after a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Joseph Catholic Church. The Mass celebrant was Fr. Ray Ackerman, the con-celebrant was Fr. Robert Wood. Pall bearers were Donnie Butler, Nick Cheper, Bob Cristelli, Dennis Fine, Bobbie Johnson and Paul Martin. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Miller, David Allen, Ray Chandler, Johnny Campbell, Chris Haller, Michael Chandler, Gregory Poteet, T.J. Abbott and Michael Smith. She is survived by her loving daughters, Shirley Allen Chandler and husband Ray, of Albuquerque, N.M., their children Michelle Abbott and Michael Chandler, Michelle's husband T.J.; Kathleen Allen Campbell and husband Johnny, also of Albuquerque, and their children Andrea Campbell Smith and Alyssa Campbell and Andrea's husband Michael; Charlotte Allen Haller and husband Chris and children Gregory and Stefanie Poteet, all of Amarillo, Texas. Loving son David Lee Allen of Baton Rouge, La., and his daughters Shena and Ashley. She is also survived by a loving sister and brother, Gloria Kemp and Johnnie Mazzolini and their children who held a very special place in their Aunt Lillie's heart. A loving son James Allen preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 1989. Lillian graduated from Arma High School, Arma, Kan., in 1937, and returned to Phillips with her family. On Dec. 31, 1945, she and Isaac Monroe Allen were married in Coalgate. They moved with their family to eastern New Mexico in 1960 and moved to Roff, Oklahoma in 1972 and lived there until Monroe's passing on Dec. 13, 1989. Lillian then moved to Ada where she lived with and cared for her mother until she passed away on Aug. 17, 1993. Lillian was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Joseph Church in Ada where she sang proudly in the choir for years and loved working in many capacities for the annual church Smorgasbord. "Lillian," "Lillie," "Mother," and "Nona Lil," loved life but lived it every day as though she was preparing to return to the arms of her Savior and her loved ones. She had a lovely voice and loved to sing and dance. She never met a stranger and always greeted everyone with a compliment. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly. The family wishes to thank Fr. Ray Ackerman, Fr. George Carson officiating. Burial follows at New Bethel. She died Dec. 13, 2002, at a Midwest City nursing facility. She was born July 16, 1911, at Ada to Thomas Winters and Agnes Harris. She lived in this area most of her life. She graduated from Byng High School. She retired as an LPN at valley View Regional Hospital for 25 years. She and Ellis Myers were married Sept. 28, 1929. He died Feb. 25, 1995. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Joe Myers. Survivors include a daughter, Bennie Miller, Newalla; two sons, Jimmie Myers, Fittstown, and Dennis Myers, Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers, L.D. Winters, Ada, and Lloyd Winters, Broken Arrow; eight grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren.; and numerous nieces and nephews. DOYLE McCOY LINDSAY--Dr. Doyle McCoy was a native Oklahoman and always maintained a very keen interest in the natural vegetation of our state. The eastern rural hills of Grady County provided the environment for his childhood and early teens, until high school graduation at Bradley. A Bachelor of Science degree was earned at East Central University with a botany major. Work toward a completion of each degree provided good opportunities for field work in an area of botany that he found challenging - native plant identification. His wife, the former Pearl Hayes is also a native Oklahoman. She is now retired after serving as a librarian in senior high school and University libraries. They recently observed their sixty-sixth wedding anniversary. Their only daughter, Judy, resides in Lindsay, Oklahoma after teaching in Texas. Their only grandson, Allen Simonds resides in Burnet, Texas with his wife Cilisse and daughters Teegan and Andri. Five books for which Dr. McCoy was the author A Study of Flowering Plants, Roadside Flowers of Oklahoma, volume 1, Roadside Flowers of Oklahoma, volume 2, Roadside Fruits of Oklahoma, Roadside Trees and Shrubs of Oklahoma and Oklahoma Wildflowers. De. McCoy was preceded in death by his parents George and Jewel McCoy, a brother Lloyd McCoy and a sister Lavel. Dr. Doyle McCoy died at 8:35 a.m., December 11, 2002, at his home in Lindsay, Oklahoma. Her family was the owner and operators of Adams Lumber Company in Ada and Allen. She was active in the Boston Avenue United Methodist Church in Tulsa. She and Fred Manton were married Oct. 3, 1937, at Ada. He died Aug. 3, 1993, at Ada. She and her husband were members of the Ada Hobos Club for several years. Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Thompson, Ada, and Carol Pohly, Berthoud, Colo.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mike was born October 26, 1950, to Francile Allen Hammond and Jenkin Richard Hammond in Oklahoma City. Mike worked in retail for TG&Y for fifteen years from 1965 through 1980. For the past 22 years, Mike and his wife of 22 years, Terri, worked in the commercial real estate industry. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Jenkin Richard Hammond. He will be missed by his wife, Terri, his daughters Molly and Libby, his sons Jenkin and Billy, his mother Francile and his sisters Patty Dickerson and Cynthia Salinas, and many friends. Mrs. Wade passed away Monday, December 16, 2002, in Holdenville at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney Evett, in 1980 and husband, Joe Wade, in 1998. Elizabeth was raised in Hughes County and attended Gerty Schools. She worked for Komar Company in Holdenville as a seamstress and retired in 1970. Elizabeth was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star in Muskogee. She enjoyed crocheting and also did a lot of crossstitching. She made a lot of her family members bedspreads for Christmas. She enjoyed cooking and traveling and just enjoyed life. She is survived by her family: Daughter Betty Don Carlos and her husband, Robert, of Eufaula, Oklahoma Granddaughters Kathy McClung and her husband, Mike, of Frederick, Oklahoma Carol Ann Napier and her husband, Del, of Eufaula, sister Margret "Peachy" Miller of Ada, Oklahoma Brothers Berry K. Lewis and his wife, Inez, of Apex, North Carolina Rodney S. Lewis and his wife, Babbs, of Midland, Texas Other survivors include three great grandchildren, four step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Interment will follow the service at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home of Holdenville. --Paid Obituary-- =============================================================================== Friday, December 20, 2002 Ada Evening News, Ada, OK MILLIE GERTRUDE JOHNSON Millie Gertrude Johnson, age 97, left this earth December 17, 2002, while living at the Ada Retirement and Care Center and took up her residence in her heavenly home. Mellie was born in Wanette, OK on September 16, 1902, to Sam and Anne Felton, the 5th of 7 children. Her brother, Horace, was killed in France in WWI, Anthony, Elsie, Sybil and Cecil also preceded her in death. Her sister Mabel survives alone. She married Frank Johnson on August 1, 1926, and they worked side by side for 55 years before his heavenly departure in 1982. She lived in the Ada area most of her life and was active at Asbury United Methodist Church. She was a loving wife, gracious mother and grandmother. She quietly served her family. Her sister, Elsie Lamm, lived with her 10 years until her death in 2000 at the age of 100. Survivors include 1 son, Gene Johnson, 3 daughters, Carolyn Brumley, Pat Barnett and Dorothy Thompson, 13 grandchildren: Annette, Marlene, Bruce, Mike, Steve, Kelli, Jayna, Beth, Paula, Gary, Patricia, Dianna and Wayne. 25 Great Grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
