Bob was born on November 19, 1934, in Hickory, Oklahoma to Jess and Vera Sloan. He was married to his devoted wife Shirley for 46 years. During his illness there was no better caregiver. Her loving care for him was an inspiration to everyone who came in contact with the family. Bob accomplished much in his life. He was a proud Veteran of the US Army’s 82nd Airborne and served 8 years in the Army reserves. Bob was employed by Western Electric and AT&T for 30 years and retired as a Senior Manager. He was always thankful to be a part of the Oklahoma City factory at Reno & Council, where he proudly displayed the sign "This is a Good Place to Work." His caring nature to help others was legendary. Many former employees over the years have stated that Bob was the "Best Boss" they ever had. Though highly educated with a Ph.D in Adult Education, three Master’s degrees and a Bachelors degree in Math & Science, Bob’s greatest skills were his people skills. He used these skills along with his educational background to develop a highly successful Graduate Studies in Management program at Southern Nazarene University, in addition to being an adjunct professor of Physics for 20 plus years at OSU Tech. Bob served two terms as a Bethany City Councilman, where he emphasized the need for Parks & Recreational facilities for families. Bob served as the Chairman of the Board for the first Hospice group in Oklahoma City. He was a founding member of Community Church of the Nazarene in Oklahoma City (now Metroplex) where he drew up the plans for the original building. Despite his many achievements, his greatest gifts were his Christian example and love for his family. There was no better Husband, Father and Grandfather. Despite a busy schedule, he never missed any of his children’s events or games, they were his priority! He loved his grandchildren and always smiled when he saw them. Bob will be dearly missed by all who knew him! He touched many lives. Bob is survived by his wife Shirley, sons Gary, Steve and daughter in law Lynette, grandchildren Kyle, Megan, Kent, sisters, Joy Harp, Pat Siegenthler, and Jan Connell. He is preceded in death by his daughter Dianne, brother Richard, sisters Betty Roark, Arlene Davis, and Pauline Oliver. Funeral services will be held at Lake Overholser Church of the Nazarene on Friday, Nov. 14th at 2:00 pm. Mercer-Adams Funeral Service, Bethany - Paid Obituary -
