Despite his handicaps Roger passed many milestones in his life. In his assisted living environment in Ada he thrived under the loving care of Tina Hardy, Judy Filippo, Diana Osborne, Christy Osborne and the many caregivers who served as his housemothers at Group Home I over a span of 18 years. At the time of his death he was employed as a janitorial worker in the DHS offices in Ada. He will be sorely missed by his co-workers, administrators and friends at New Horizons Workshop, his housemates and the hundreds of friends he made with his beautiful smile and his gentle, caring nature. He was a devout Christian and a member of College Heights Baptist Church in Ada. Roger was a ward of the state from birth, but he is survived by his sponsor family of 33 years: mom, Larry Gayle Russell of Wynnewood; sisters, Robin Jolly and her husband Steven of Sulphur, Shannon Sharp and her husband Donnie of Pauls Valley, and Shelly Lindsey and her husband Shawn of Wynnewood; his eight nieces and nephews, Tiffani, Jantzen and McLane Jolly of Sulphur, Logan and Landon Sharp of Pauls Valley, and Russell, Tawni and Brayden Lindsey of Wynnewood; his special friends at Group Home I and II and care providers, Tina Hardy and Judy Filippo; his co-workers at New Horizons and DHS; and a host of friends in Pauls Valley and Ada that he always kept track of and never forgot in his heart and in his prayers. Funeral services for Roger will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2003, at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel in Ada with Pastors Sherman Ivy and Kenneth Brady officiating and Beverly Brady providing special music. Serving as pallbearers are Shawn Lindsey, Donnie Sharp, Steven Jolly, Dewayne Estes, Terry Vandergrift and Gary Phillips. Honorary pallbearers are Don Walston, Thomas Hansche, Dan Summers, James Smith, J.J. Jahns, Henry Walker and Rick Estes. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.
