Loretta Cooksey went to be with the Lord last Wednesday, July 23, 2003. She was born in Asher, Oklahoma, in 1911. She was the youngest of James and Mary (McKinney) Edmondsons 20 children. Loretta came west in a covered wagon as a teen and married Earl Cooksey in Carson, Nevada in 1941. Loretta came to know the Lord many years ago, and served Him in many capacities. She was a greeter for Canyon Hills Assembly in Bakersfield for 19 years and had been a volunteer for the Kern Chapter of the American Red Cross since 2001. Her greatest joy, however, was in giving her personal witness and passing out scripture verses. Loretta is survived by numerous nephews and nieces, a multitude of great nieces and nephews, and many great-great-nieces and nephews. Her life was full and her passing was gentle. She was truly blessed of the Lord.
