Etta was born March 25, 1912, in Shawnee, Okla., to and incongruous set of parents, a shy and genteel mother and a headstrong Native American father. Etta's life was a rich tapestry of cross-cultural immersion and good old Yankee know-how. She had an enormous zest for life and fun, and was clearly the bravest woman we've ever known. Growing up the granddaughter of Quanah Parker, Chief of the Commanche Nation, to becoming "Rosie the Riveter" was and easy transition for mom. She glowed brightly in the spotlight and was pleased to learn that she had made the national news when she made her first sky-diving jump to celebrate her 88th birthday. Her skydiving, white-water rafting, competitive dancing, enduring beauty and many other outstanding accomplishments have made her a hard act to follow, but also have made us very proud. "Mother, your beloved children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren, wish you Godspeed and joy on this, your greatest adventure. Etta is survived by seven children, Lois Martin of Phoenix, Doris Ledbetter of Mayer, Richard Daugherty of Buckeye, Ariz., Jean Locke of Clifton, Colo., Sharon Walker of Wilhoit, Ariz., Linda Doornbos of Elgin, and Ronda Largo of Superior. Two children predeceased her: Patsy George of Bartlesville, Okla., and Leonard Daugherty of Mesa, Ariz. She had 28 grandchildren and more great-grandchildren than the family can immediately account for. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 10:00 a.m., at the Hampton Funeral Home in Prescott, Ariz. The Hampton Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Pottawatomie County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/pottawatomie/pottawatomie.htm
