All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Belmont Memorial Park Cemetery--Fresno CA Larson, Johnnie JOHNNIE LARSON Johnnie was born on March 11, 1921, to Sibbie and John Sandlin, and went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 26, 2006. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy whom she married on December 7, 1942. Born in Alabama and raised in Oklahoma, she graduated from Tribbey High School and attended University of Oklahoma. She met Roy while visiting family and friends in California, fell in love, was married, and began their 36 years together in Fresno. Johnnie completed her college education at Fresno State College. She was employed by the City of Fresno Parks and Recreation Department for 35 years, starting as a recreation leader and later becoming a supervisor. Her duties included being the director of Teen-X-Change, a social and volunteer organization for the teens of Fresno. The latter part of her employment was spent organizing similar activities for the senior citizens of the community. Johnnie was a charter member of First Southern Baptist Church of Fresno, as well as a member of Fresno County Women's Chamber of Commerce, Chi Kappa Rho, Moose Lodge, and Elks' Lodge. In addition to her many charitable services, she and Roy were instrumental in the foundation of Heritage Christian School. Johnnie received many awards and acknowledgments during her lifetime, but the one held dearest to her heart was being nominated and chosen as ... Fresno County Mother of the Year in 1961. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always put others first, Johnnie cherished all the wonderful years she spent with her family. In passing, she leaves her loved ones: children and their spouses, Charlotte and Douglas Lee, Charlie and Deborah Larson, and Cheryl and Joseph Tobin; brother, Charlie Adams; sisters, Lorrine Connor, Louise Montgomery and Robbie Knight; half-brother, John B. Sandlin; six grandchildren and their spouses; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held at the Stephens & Bean Chapel on Thursday, November 2, 2006, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A Memorial Service in celebration of Johnnie's life will be held at the Stephens & Bean Chapel on Friday, November 3, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Belmont Memorial Park. Remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, or St. Agnes Hospice.
