All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Tulocay Cemetery--Napa CA Floyd Meneely Napa Valley Register Thursday, November 30, 2006 6:39 AM PST NAPA - Floyd Allen Meneely peacefully entered into the loving arms of his Savior on Nov. 27, 2006. He was 81. Floyd was born on Feb. 26, 1925, in Shawnee, Okla., to Linus and Birdie Meneely. He was the ninth child of 12 children. He moved to Napa with his family in 1941, graduating from Napa High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army for three years during World War II. In 1948, he married Alveda Brown, and together they raised their two daughters, Joy and Lenae. Floyd and Alveda celebrated 58 years together. Floyd graduated from Pasadena College (now Point Loma Nazarene University) in 1952 with a bachelor's degree in business administration and then went on to receive his master's degree in industrial engineering from UC Berkeley in 1955. In 1980, Floyd retired after 30 years with the U.S. Civil Service at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Alameda Navy Air Base, Controller for Navy Air Research Department in Washington, D.C., and Pacific Missile Test Center at Point Magu. Floyd served on the Napa School Board (Phillips Elementary) and the special board which created the Napa Unified School system. He helped organize the U.S. Missile Museum at Point Magu and represented the United States to the Prime Minister of Canada in exchange program. He received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award from the Department of the Navy when he retired in 1980. Floyd was passionately committed to his family and his church. A lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene, he volunteered his time wholeheartedly wherever he could serve and with whatever he could give. He loved people. There is no one he ever met that would not remember having an interesting conversation with him or recall the smiling familiarity which came so naturally to him with those he met. He was predeceased by his parents and nine siblings: Delores, Blanche, Leslie, Everette, Margaret, Alice, Leroy, Robert and James. Floyd is survived by his wife and life partner, Alveda; daughter, Joy Ballew and her husband Mark of Auburn; daughter Lenae Grout and her husband Wayne of Derry, N.H.; and five grandchildren: Stuart and Philip Ballew, Lauren Katherine and John Grout. He is also survived by two sisters, Cleo Hill and Ruth Mary Allen; as well as much loved members of his large family including nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. He also had a network of many friends he thought of as family. His big heart and kindness are remembered by all. His family asks that donations in Floyd's name be sent to the Floyd Meneely Memorial Fund, c/o New Hope Church of the Nazarene, 1891 Woolner Ave., Suite E, Fairfield, CA 94533. Funeral arrangements are as follows: a viewing will take place Friday, Dec. 1 from 1 to 8 p.m. at Treadway & Wigger Funeral Chapel in Napa; graveside services are on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 10:30 a.m. at Tulocay Cemetery in Napa. A lunch and celebration service will be Saturday at noon at New Hope Church of the Nazarene in Fairfield. All are welcome to come and share their remembrances of Floyd.
