Smith Sr., Virgil

Virgil Smith Sr. of Shawnee, Oklahoma, beloved husband, father, 
grandfather, and friend passed away on July 22, 2006. He will be 
greatly missed. Visitation will be Thursday, July 27, at Greenlawn 
Southwest Mortuary, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. A celebration of Virgil's 
life will take place in his hometown of Shawnee. Virgil was born to 
Homer and Leona Smith in Madill, Oklahoma on January 14, 1950. He 
left high school early to work on the farm, learning to operate farm 
machinery. He then worked operating heavy equipment and as a long-
haul truck driver for over 30 years, switching between the two, 
depending on his family's needs and available work. His first love 
though was always the open road. Virgil loved the simple things in 
life, hard work, his children, grandchildren, friends, and most of 
all a good home cooked meal. Nothing put a bigger smile on his face 
than to visit with his family for a home cooked meal of pork chops 
and fried potatoes, and then after dinner play with his grandchildren 
until all of them, including Virgil fell asleep on the living room 
floor. When at home Virgil loved to visit his brother and best friend 
Jack Smith and wife, Norma. The two of them would drink coffee in the 
morning, and spent many afternoons watching old western movies. His 
parents, Homer and Leona Smith, and his brother, Benny Smith of 
Oklahoma preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Nancy 
Smith; children, Civona McKinney, Virgil Smith Jr., Corinna 
Rodriguez, Jennifer Smith, Colleen Smith; 11 grandchildren; and 
numerous extended family members and friends, all of whom loved him 
very dearly. Virgil Don Smith Sr. Jan. 14, 1950 - July 22, 2006
