All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Sunset Memorial Gardens--Lawton OK Becker Funeral Home Obit 28 May 2005 Woodie L. “W.L.” Wade Age 100, Lawton, Services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday at the First Christian Church with Rev. Wayne Ashlock, Pastor, officiating. Mr. Wade died Saturday at a local hospital. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home. He was born on January 29, 1905 in Wooten Wells, Texas to Ralph Lane and Elvira (Lane) Wade. He grew up in Dallas and graduated from Oak Cliff High School in 1923. After high school, he attended Texas A&M University and later played on a semi-pro baseball farm team. He married Imogene Taylor on September 5, 1935 in Dallas, Texas. She died on March 4, 1982. They moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma in 1937 and later to Lawton in 1942. He owned the Sooner News Agency and sold his business in 1965, after more than twenty years. He later worked as a bailiff at the Comanche County Courthouse for 18 years, retiring in 1985. He married Roberta K. Brubaker in Lawton on October 7, 1983. She died on June 30, 2002. He was a faithful member of the First Christian Church for over 60 years, where he served as an elder, an officer in the Christian Men’s Fellowship, taught Sunday School, served on the building committee and as Chairman of the Church Board. He was also a longtime member of the Lawton Evening Lion’s Club. Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Leach and Pat of San Antonio, Texas; Janice Logan and Bill of Lawton; Martha Ragland and Nat of La Belle, Florida; and Lynda Noland and Ron of Marlow; a daughter-in-law, Sally Wade of Lumberton, North Carolina; 19 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren; and special friends, Irene Phillips and the staff and friends at the Village On Lee. His wives, parents, a son, Alan Wade, a grandson, Robert Logan, a great grandson, Sean Logan, a brother and three sisters, preceded him in death.
