The strength and stamina of this "young Indian brave" prevailed. Amison MULLIN and bride Katie celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Sunday at their home in Damon Valley, near Wilburton, on Amison's allotted tract of land. Amison and Katie first met in Damon Valley. Later, they eloped to Clayton on horseback to be married. As they turned their horses toward Wilburton on their return trip, it was late in the afternoon. Dark was upon them when they heard rushing waters as they neared a creek. It had been raining the entire time they spent in Clayton. The heavy rains had swollen the creek, making it impassable for Katie and her small pony. Amison saw Katie's pony losing its footing in the swift waters. With fear for his bride, Amison pulled Katie and her pony from the swift waters. The next day, Amison swam the horses across as Katie walked the railroad bridge for their return to Wilburton. Seventy years later, Amison and Katie are still in "love".
