Psalm 116:15. Bernard Roscoe Land, formerly of Midland, Texas, and recently of Boerne, Texas, went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at the age of 84. Bernard was born Sept. 10, 1919, in Darwin, Oklahoma to Bertha Barnett Land and Charley Land. On Nov. 4, 1940, he married Mildred McWhorter in Antlers, Oklahoma. Bernard served with the Flying Tigers of the 14th Air Force in China, Burma and India during World War II. Before and after serving his country he was in the grocery business in Albion, Okla. After receiving training to become an electrician at Oklahoma A & M in Okmulgee, Okla., he moved his family to Jal, N.M., where he began a career as an electrician for El Paso Natural Gas Company. He lived in Jal and Midkiff, Texas, until 1976 when EPNG asked him to go to Bethioua, Algeria, where he was charged with overseeing the electrical aspect of building an LNG plant. He has the honor of being the first EPNG employee to receive a service award on foreign soil. He returned to Midkiff in 1978 and retired in 1982. At that time, he moved to Midland and lived there until May of 2003 when he moved to Boerne. He died in San Antonio, Texas, after a brief illness. He was a member of North A & Tennessee Church of Christ in Midland. Mr. Land was preceded in death by his beloved wife, his parents and one brother. He is survived by his daughters, Brenda Land of Boerne, Texas; Cynthia Cummins and husband Jim of Boerne, Texas, and Mary Chandler and husband Roy of Cedar Creek, Texas; Brother, Ralph Land of McAlester, Oklahoma; Grandsons, Kenneth McMahen and Steven Miles; Granddaughters, Kellie Alexander and Susan Miles; Four Great Grandchildren; several nephews and nieces. Visitation was held Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, 7 to 9 p.m. at the Pipkin Funeral Home, 2508 N. Big Spring St. in Midland, Texas. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland, Texas, Pastor Bob Porterfield, Officiating.
