He was raised in Clayton, OK where he was the youngest of 12 siblings, 8 of whom survived to adulthood. He left home at the age of 15 to work on Gene Autry's ranch in Flagstaff, AZ and later worked in the logging industry. At the age of 16 with his mothers permission he joined the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. Hope during World War II. Upon returning home he moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas to attend the Junior College there where this handsome man met the college's 'most beautiful woman', Tanya Jeanne Brashier. They were married July 30, 1949 and had 4 daughters. The family left Arkansas in 1966 to move to Oklahoma City when Jack took a position with Brittain Brothers Auto Parts Wholesalers. In 1975 Jack and Tanya moved to Tulsa where Jack continued to work for Brittain Brothers until 1977 at which time the couple bought an auto parts business and moved to El Centro, California. Jack finished his career in Yuma, Arizona after running his business with the help of his wife for 17 years. He retired in 1994 and continued to live in Yuma until his death on August 4. He was admired by many for his fair and successful business dealings. Jack was a voracious reader and seeker of knowledge, and he loved to write, traits he passed on to his daughters and grandchildren. He taught himself many things and never lost his thirst for learning something new. He was a private pilot for many years and loved to fly his Cessna in the skies of southwest Arizona. He also loved sailing his own sailboat on the lake. Jack is survived by his faithful and loving wife of 53 years, Tanya B. Musick, of the home, as well as his four daughters and their families: Tanya Jeanne Musick, Jr. of the home, Jacquelyn 'Jacki' Musick of Edmond, Patricia 'Pat' Martindale of Edmond, and Susan Michelle 'Mici' Sartin, also of Edmond. He was 'Peepaw' to his 7 grandchildren: Lisa and Matthew Lasky, Jennifer and Katy Swartout, Colter Sartin, and Sam and Sarah Martindale. He also leaves behind three sisters: Maxine Blair and Jerry Rother, both of California, and Madine Robles of Tulsa, OK, and he will be remembered by the many, many people whose paths he crossed in his 75 years. Services were held Friday the 9th of August, at Johnson's Mortuary, Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 14154 S. 1st Avenue, Yuma, AZ, 85364, 928-782-4384. His earthly remains will be returned to the home of his birth, the home of his heart, Oklahoma. Memorial gifts to the Salvation Army and expressions of remembrance may be directed to the mortuary. Come, my friends, 'Tis not too late to seek a newer world... ... for my purpose holds to sail beyond the sunset, and the baths of all the western stars, until I die... Though much is taken, much abides: and though we are not now that strength which in old days moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are, one equal temper of heroic hearts, made weak by time and fate, but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield. Ulysses The shield is down now Dad, and your tender heart exposed. Fly high, sail far, and find your peace beyond the western stars. Your girls.
