MORRIS SERVICES HELD Alvin J. Morris passed away on Friday, April 13, 2001 in Antlers, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years. Alvin was born on November 2, 1911 in Pickens, Oklahoma to Calvin and Alma Morris. Mr. Morris lived in this area all of his life. He was a well-known businessman and owner of Morris Hardward and Wholesale. Mr. Morris has also owned Morris Lumber and ran a grocery and post office in Oleta for many years. Other businesses included saw mills, sale barns, area motels, and the Antlers Democrat Newspaper. Being active in the community, Mr. Morris served on the school board, hospital board, city councils and the Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by his wife, Grace E. Morris of the home, 2 sons: Don Morris and Terry Morris and wife, Carol all of Antlers. Grandchildren: Alesia Ricketta, Angelia and Todd Theis, Chris and Lisa Morris, and Tajah and David Liddy. Great-grandchildren: Amy Dawn Walls, Colt Morris, Kayden Morris, Tanner Morris, and Conner Liddy. Nephew: Dane Morris and wife, June; Nieces: Marcia Fittzgibbon and husband Dale, and Maritta Helm and husband, Don. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Elvin Morris and sister: Francis Elizabeth Morris. Funeral services were held Monday, April 16, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at the Antlers First Baptist Church with Reverend Sam Dyer and Reverend Sam Pace officiating. Serving as pallbearers were: Don Morris, Terry Morris, Chris Morris, Colt Morris, Todd Theis, and David Liddy. Honorary pallbearers were: Brenda Langley, Misty Robertson, Vernie Sexton, Barbara Roan, Mary Bodine, Maria Tucker, Dona Green, Rhonda Prater, Rebecca Mason, and Margie Lawrence. Burial took place in Oddfellows Cemetery in Antlers under the direction of Mills & Coffey Funeral Home of Antlers, Oklahoma.
