THOMAS JAMES NELSON SERVICES HELD Thomas James Nelson was born on November 5, 1921 in Antlers, Oklahoma and passed away on April 2, 2002 in Antlers, Oklahoma at the age of 80 years. Mr. Nelson was a life-long resident of Antlers and a member of the Nazarene Church. He served his country during WWII in the Navy as Seaman 1st Class and in his leisure time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, sports and bird watching. He was preceded in death by his parents: Oscar and Daisy Nelson and one brother, Francis Nelson. He is survived by his wife Hattie Nelson of the home in Antlers; four children: Sonja Emery and husband Mike of Kosoma, Oklahoma; Dewayne Nelson and wife Marie of Tyler, Texas; Karen Stone and husband Larry of Okmulgee, Oklahoma and Kathy Maple and husband Joe of Antlers, Oklahoma; two brothers: Isaac (Bill) Nelson of Antlers, Oklahoma and Loyd Nelson of Hobbs, New Mexico; one sister: Ruth Lowdermilk of Santa Barbara, California; ten grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 4, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Gateway Community Church with Reverend Larry Stone and Joe Maple officiating. Serving as pallbearers were his grandchildren: Mickey Emery, Rickey Emery, Scott Nelson, Brad Nelson, Shanna Grady, Shawna Kellett, Sane Bailey, Joe Beach Maple, Mindy Maple and Jill Maple. Honorary pallbearers included his great grandchildren: Adrinne Emery, Zachary Nelson, Jeffery Nelson, Makayla Nelson, Brittany Grady, Taylor Grady, Mason Kellett, Mallory Kellett, Destiny Bailey, Morgan Bailey, Paige Shaw and Kameron Maple. He was laid to rest in the Antlers City Cemetery under the direction of Mills-Coffey Funeral Home of Antlers, Oklahoma.
