Bishop Kirk Waggener will officiate. Interment will be at Memory Gardens, Medford, following the service. Mr. Perry, 89, of Medford, died Monday (Aug. 26, 2002) at Providence Medford Medical Center. Memorial contributions may be made to The Perpetual Education Fund, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 50 E. North Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84150. He was born Nov. 13, 1912, in Nashoba, Okla., to James Marion and Martha Ellen (Edwards) Perry. He farmed with his family in Nashoba until he was 16, when the family traveled by covered wagon to homestead in New Mexico. He walked the entire distance. In New Mexico, he worked as a ranch and farm hand. On April 16, 1934, in Clayton, N.M., he married Mary Delilah Ray, who survives. During the Depression he worked on other farms doing ranching and sheep herding for $30 a month until the family settled in Klamath Falls in 1944, where he worked as a mechanic. The family settled in Medford in 1963, where Mr. Perry worked as a heavy equipment mechanic with Peter Kewitt Construction company, putting in the Interstate 5 line over the Siskiyou Pass. He also worked as a millwright for Klamath Lumber and Box as well as KOGAP, and as a lead welder at Medford Steel until his retirement in 1979. He was a member of the Good Neighbor Sam. He and his wife joined the LDS Church in 1950. He was a member of the LDS Medford 6th Ward, where he served as Sunday school president, president of the Seventies, stake missionary, ward clerk and Scout leader. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting, playing pinochle and poetry. Survivors, in addition to his wife of 68 years, include two sons, Loyd, Butte Falls, and Van, Vancouver, Wash.; a daughter, LaVerne Bitner, Fresno, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters. Friends may pay their respects from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the LDS Church on Juanipero Way, Medford.
