"Mutt" I.H. 'Mutt' Standefer, 90, of Clayton, Oklahoma was called home to be with his Lord April 11, 2004, on Easter Sunday. He was born on October 5, 1913 to John C. and Lula Standefer. He was of the Baptist faith, one of his most important events in his life was when he married Lela McCary. They shared their lives together for sixty five wonderful years. The first year of their marriage they hitchhiked to California looking for work, they later returned home to get a degree in education and attended Southeastern at Durant. During that time they would hitchhike home to Sardis on the weekends until an older brother, Jock, said one weekend, Son we're getting you a car this next week and he did. He attained many degrees in education and later taught school for 13 years at Sardis, Clayton, Tuskahoma, and Buffalo Valley. He served as teacher, prinicipal and superintendent. He has had so many rewarding associates in numerous fields of Public Service, such as education, Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (16 years) Director, Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (3 1/2 years) Engineer with Army corp of Engineers, ODOT., A.S.C.S, (28 years) Mutt is survived by wife, Lela of the home; son, Gayle H. Standefer of Yale, Oklahoma; 3 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, sister, brother, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents, sister, 7 brothers. Visitation will be held 6pm-9pm Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at the Clayton Funeral Home. Services will be held 2 P.M. Thursday, April 15, 2004 at the Lighthouse Cathedral with Brother Phillip Sharp and Brother Johnny Joslin officiating.
