After graduating from high school, he attended East Central State College in Ada, Okla, Benjamin Franklin University in Washington, D.C. and Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles. Bascom married Mary "Bebe" Evelyn Walker on January 7, 1940 in Antlers, OK. He joined the FBI in February 1941 and then served in the Army from 1944 to 1946, assigned to OSS Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Returning to the FBI in 1946, he worked as a personal assistant to J. Edgar Hoover. Later, Bascom relocated to Southern California and continued working for the FBI until 1949 when he joined Broadway Department Stores in Los Angeles. In 1960, he became Corporate Director of Security for Carter Hawley Hale Stores, where he was responsible for the protection of an accumulation of department stores located throughout the United States and Canada. Bascom lost Bebe in 1967 and, in 1969, married Barbara Waggoner, Vice-President of Buffum's. Bascom and Barbara retired to Pacific Grove, CA in 1986, where they lived out the rest of their lives enjoying golf, travel, family and friends. Bascom spent his final days at the beautiful Carmel Villa Residence in Carmel Valley. Bascom served as president and member of the Board of Directors of the Chief Special Agents Association and was a member of the California and L.A. County Peace Officers Association. He was also a member of the Beach and Tennis Club at Pebble Beach and the Pacific Grove Golf Club. Bascom was preceded in death by his wife, Bebe, and his wife, Barbara; his stepson, Carl and his parents, Emma and Bascom, Sr., He is survived by his sister, Virginia; his brothers, O'Neil and Woodrow; his children, Richard and Susan; his grandchildren, Carly, and Jonathan; his step-granddaughter, Heather; step-great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Bascom will be remembered as a kind and loving father, grandfather, brother, husband and friend. Please contact friends and family for memorial service information.
