Contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Teresa Young June 29, 2001 ************************************************************************ "Push County Times", January 9, 2001, Page 5 BARNEY LEE SANDERS SERVICES HELD Lifelong Antlers resident, Barney Lee Sanders passed away on December 29, 2000 at Pushmataha Hospital in Antlers at the age of 80 years. Barney was born on August 3, 1920 in Antlers and had worked as a Lease Administrator and Civil Service/General Service Administrator. Mr. Sanders was a member of the First United Methodist Church and had served his county during WWII as a Master Sergeant in the Army. He was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and the Bronze Arrowhead. He served throughout the European Theater and the Korean War. Barney was a member of the Antlers Lions Club, The Gideons and served on the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Sanders is survived by his wife: Patsy of the home; one son: Steve Sanders and wife Susan of Austin, Texas; one daughter: Sharon Wilson and husband Lee of Austin, Texas; one brother: Ralph Sanders of Antlers, Okla.; one sister: Marie Nelson of Antlers, Okla.; six grandchildren: Trey and wife Robin; Wendy, Amanda, Alex, Jason, and Hailey and one great-grandchild, Mia Alexandra. He was preceded in death by his parents: Dr. William and Martha (Baber) Sanders; two brothers: Cecil Sanders and Altus Sanders; one sister: Jerry White. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 2, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Antlers with Reverend Ann Hagman and Reverend Galeda Mannschreck and Joe Stamper officiating. Serving as pallbearers were: Mike Wood, John Wood, Alan Long, Billy Smallwood, Brad Miller, and Terry Dean Miller. Honorary pallbearers included: Ed Ellis, R. C. Pruett, Joe Stamper, John Cooper, Pete Puckett, Mark Virden, Doyle Lawless, Burton Speck, Bill Henry, Roy Earl Jackson, W. J. Baggett, Howard Frazier, Harry Jeffers, Bob Settles, Raymond Lough, and Mike Wingfield. Burial was held and the Antlers City Cemetery under the direction of Mills & Coffey Funeral Home of Antlers, Oklahoma.
