Johnson , being called as a witness in his own behalf in support of homestead entry # 8865 for NE 1/4 Sect. 25, T14N, R23W I.M. testifies as follows: Q- What is your name, age and post-office address? A- Oliver L. Johnson; age 46yrs, PO Address Cheyene,O.T. Q- Are you a native born citizen of the US? A- I am not;I was born in Norway, I came to the United States with my father when I was about five years old; my father was in the U.S. Army in the rebellion and was naturalized before I was 21yrs old. Q- Are you the identical person who made homestead entry No. 8865 at the Kingfisher, O.T. land office on the 4th day of August 1892 and what is the true description of the land now claimed by you? A- I am; the land is the N/E 1/4 of Section 25 in Township 14N of Range 23W of the Indian Meridian. Q- When was your house built on the land and when did you establish actual residence therein? (Describe said house and other improvements which you have placed on the land , giving total value thereof.) A- In April 1892 and I established residence on it at once. The first house was a dug-out, 16X12 ft. I have since built a log and lumber house, cistern, well, barn, sheds, orchard, corrals, outhouses, fencing , hog pasture, all worth at least $1200. Q- Of whom does yor family consist; and have you and your family resided continuously on the land since first establishing residence thereon? (if unmarried state the fact.) A- My wife and seven children ; we have. Q- For what period or periods have you been absent from the homestead since first making settlement and for what purpose; and if temporarily absent , did your family reside upon and cultivate the land during such absence? A- I was away on business , not more than 20 days at any one time and my family remained on the land and cultivated it during my absence. Q- How much of the land have you cultivated each season and how many seasons have you raised crops thereon? A- 1892 About 15 acres, 1893 30 acres from which I have since increased the amount to about 70 acres; nine seasons in all. Q- Is your present claim within the limits of an incorporated town or selected city or town , or used in any way for trade or business? A- It is not. Q- What is the character of the land? Is it timber, mountainous, prairie, grazing, or ordinary agricultural land? State it's kind and quality, and for what purpose it is most valuable. A- It is ordinary agricultural land , most valuable for farming. Q- Are there any indications of coal, salines, or minerals, of any kind on the land? ( If so, describe what they are, and state whether the land is more valuable for agricultural than for mineral purposes.) A- No. Q- Have you ever made any other homestead entry? A- I have not. Q- Have you any personal property of any kind elsewhere than on this claim? (If so, describe the same. and state where the same is kept.) A- I have a grist-mill at Hammon, Custer Co., O.T. Q- Describe by legal subdivisions, or by number, kind of entry, and office where made, any other entry or filing (not mineral) made by you since August 30, 1890. A- I have never made any other entry. Tracy, U.S.Court Commissioner, at Cheyenne, O.T., on Jan 12, 1901 viz: Oliver Johnson , of Cheyenne O.T. for the NE 1/4 Section 25 in township 14N of range 23W, I.M. He names the following witnesses to prove his continuous residence upon, and cultivation of, said land, viz: John Caffey of Cheyenne, O.T. Edward E Tracy of Cheyenne. O.T. Oscar H.
