Aikins was born September 4, 1942 in Shaw, Kansas to Nellie Mae and Oliver Carl Aikins and passed away January 3, 1999 in the Jackson County Memorial Hospital of Altus, Oklahoma at the age of 56 years, 3 months and 29 days. Donnie graduated from Chanute High School and later joined the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam War. After his discharge, he worked in a machine shop and lived in Enid, Oklahoma. He moved to Katy, Texas in 1972 and began working as a carpenter. He remained there until the early 1990's when he moved to Needville, Texas. In 1995, he moved north of Sayre, Oklahoma where he and Kay Patton owned and operated the D & K Corner Store. Donnie and Kay were married on April 26, 1998 in Wheeler, Texas and they continued to make their home north of Sayre. He intended the Cheyenne First Baptist Church. Services were at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 5, 1999 att the Rose Chapel officiated by Terrell Romberg. A second memorial was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, 1999 in the Johnson Mortary Chapel, Channute, KS. Interment followed in the Shaw Cemetery. He is survived by his wife Kay of the home; 1 son Donnie Aikins, Jr. of San Antonio, Texas; 1 daughter Roxanna Brock, Beasely, Texas; 1 stepdaughter, Samantha Strasky, Needville, Texas; 2 stepsons, Kenneth Wayne McCarthy, Dallas, TX and Tommie George McCarthy, Centerville, Texas; 11 grandchildren, Victoria Rae Aikins, Haley Leigh Stronsky, Stetson Lewis Stronsky, Brandon Daniel McCarthy, Destiny Amber McCarthy, Tammy, Tonya, Hunter and Cassie McCarthy, Justin Bratt, Jenny and Jerry Brock, his father, Carl Aikins, Chanute, Ks; 2 sisters, Judy Wallace, Claremore, Oklahoma and Joyce Brooks, Siloam Springs, AR, 6 brothers, Marvin Aikins, Chanute, KS, Larry Aikins, Athens, TX, Glen Aikins, Bixby, OK, Kenny Aikins, Sand Springs, Ok, Freddie Aikins, Sand Springs, OK, Freddie Aikins, Mannford, OK, and Jimmy Aikins, Wellington, KS, a host of other relatives and friends.
