(Uncle Billy) Adams, 72 years old, Roger Mills county commissioner, died last midnight in a Clinton hospital following a brief illness with pneumonia and influenza. Death was attributed to pneumonia and a kidney disorder. He was the second Roger Mills county official to die within the past week. Rites were held Tuesday for John M. Parker, sheriff, who died Monday at Cheyenne. Rites at 2 Saturday Funeral services for Mr. Adams will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Red Star Church and cemetery, eight miles south of Leedey. Masonic rites will be held at the cemetery. Rev. J.H. Bradley, pastor of the First Baptist church at Cheyenne, will officiate at the church services. T.C. Moore, first Roger Mills county superintendent; District Judge F.L. Mitchell, of Clinton, and Professor Moss, Lawton, one of the early day superintendents of the Cheyenne schools, will speak briefly at the rites, it was announced today. Efforts were being made to get in touch with Mr. Moss to have him attend the funeral. The three men all were close friends of the official. Uncle Billy, as he was known to his friends, was one of the most widely known men in Roger Mills county. He was an early pioneer of the country. He was an early pioneer of the county and served for many years as county superintendent. He had retired from public life when he was appointed to fill out the unexpired tem of the late W.R. Trent, Hammon, as county commissioner. Mr. Adams waited until late in life to marry, his wedding occurred seven years ago. Mr. Adams moved to what is now Roger Mills County, then old Day county, with his father, Billy Adams, Sr., from Johnson county, Texas, in 1900. The elder Mr. Adams led a band of 10 immigrants in covered wagons from Texas to northeastern Roger Mills county and settled on Quartermaster creek southwest of the town of Leedey. Uncle Billy Adams became widely known to Roger Mills county folk was an active figure in politics. He served the county successfully as county superintendent and took an active interest in all Democratic affairs.
