The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ==================================================================== Surnames: Allen, Shelton Rufus Wallace Allen was born on Aug. 19, 1893 to Cornelius Wallace and Ellen Smith Allen near Bowie, Texas. At the age of 5, he and his family moved in a covered wagon and homesteaded on the Saddler Creek south of Elk City. Rufus moved to Roger Mills County in 1933 where he farmed in the Crawford community. For the last 29 years, he made his home in Cheyenne. Rufus married Jennie Bell Shelton on Sept. 10, 1914 in Cheyenne, OK and to this union 10 children were born. Rufus was preceded in death by his mother, father, wife, 3 brothers, 6 sisters, and 5 sons, Bobby, Josh, Junior, Sam, and Clovis. He is survived by 1 sister, Ruth Hewitt of Prescott, AZ, 1 son, Jack Allen of Crawford, OK and 4 daughters, Meadow Bell Smith of Roswell, NM> Tennie Dale Campbell, Ellen Daniels and Jimmie Lou Wilmoth, all of Cheyenne, OK, 26 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and 1 great- great grandson. Rufus enjoyed his families' visits and phone calls. Even though he wasn't able to do his own farming the last several years, he still remained closedly involved in all of his farming activities. Rufus liked to ride around over the country side that he knew and loved so well and he nver missed watching Cheyenne's First Baptist Church worship services on T.V. Rufus was saved and baptized in the spring of 1962 and became a mber of the First Baptist Church of Cheyenne. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Setp 28, 1966 at 2:30 p.m. with Ken Shiplett and Milton Gage officiating. Interment followed in the Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral services of Cheyenne. Active pallbearers were: Jodie Allen, Johnnie Allen, Jimmy Allen, Jackie Allen, Ricky Allen and Jerry Allen. Honorary pallbearers were: James Campbell, Ardith Daniels, Charles Wallace Johnson, Royce Lynn Allen, Larry Allen and Richard Bright.
