He died at 4 o'clock Tuesday morning May 29, 1917. Virgle was one of boys who joined the army from this town, and he had been stationed at El Paso, Texas, for sometime. For the past ten or fifteen days he had been in the camp hospital sick of measles, and just recently contracted pneuomia, which was the cause of his death. A telegram on Monday of this week to his father, W.H. Anderson, stated Virgle, was not expected to live, and on receipt of that news, Mr. Anderson immediately left for El Paso, but he could not have reached El Paso before the death. A telegram reached here Wednesday noon, stating the body had been shipped and would reach Strong City (Thursday) today. Burial in Strong City cemetery, Strong City, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. The Sentinel together with the entire vicinity extends sympathy to the sorrowing family. (Headstone reads Virgle A. Anderson Born August 6, 1899 Died May 29, 1917)
