He was the fourth of six children. He passed away January 17, 2006 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 94 years, 5 months and 3 days. In 1917 after the death of his father, Earl, his widowed mother and siblings moved to Strong City, Oklahoma. In 1926, Earl went to work for the Clinton and Oklahoma Western Railway Company which was bought by the Santa Fe Railroad Company in 1929. He continued to work for the Santa Fea until he retired with 44 years of service in 1969. All of those years were worked locally except for 9 years during the World War II period when he worked on the main Santa Fe line. Earl married Cordelia Caudle on Januar 16, 1932 at Strong City, Oklahoma. They made their home in Strong City and celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary in 2005. Earl was very involved in his community. He served as Mayor, as a City Board Member, and on the Cemetery Board. He maintained the cemetery for years. He was on the Bicentennial Committee and was instrumental in the saving of the Strong City Log Cabin and the restoration of the Community Building after it was moved to it's present site. He is mentioned in a book about the history of the area, was well versed in that history and was willing to share the history with anyone interested. Earl's hobby was woodworking and he delighted in making things for his family and friends. Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Cordelis, in 2005, his parents, 2 sisters, 3 brothers and 1 son-in-law. Survivors include 2 daughters, Wanda Bradley, Cheyenne, Oklahoma and Shirley Whitson and husband, Gene, Cheyenne, Oklahoma; 4 grandchildren, Carey Bradley, Brandon, Florida, Jymay McLeod, Strong City, Oklahoma, Tom Bradley, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Judy Wells and husband Roy, Cheyenne, Oklahoma; 10 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Services were held Friday, January 20, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Strong City Baptist Church, officiating Rev. Milton Gage and R.B. Mathis. Honorary casket bearers Buster Miller, Carey Bradley, Tom Bradley, Glendon Bradledy, Manuel Hensley, Travis Wells. Casket Bearers Joe Whitson, Johnny Allen, Orbie Whitson, Johnny Archer, Richard Bright, Roy Wells. Interment Strong City Cemetery, Strong City, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under direction of Whinery Funeral Service.
