Armstrong was born November 10, 1898 in Roger Mills County, Indian Territory, to Edna Mac and Andrew J. Armstrong and passed away January 4, 1995 in the Elk City Nursing Home at the age of 96 years, 1 month and 24 days. Walter grew up in Roger Mills County and married Verda Rachel Luttrell on November 4, 1917 in Hammon, Oklahoma. They lived in Hammon while he ran the cotton gin until 1928 when they moved on the Pete Thurmond Ranch and where he was a foreman for 17 years. They moved west of the Carpenter community until 1951 when they moved to Elk City to make their home. Walter managed the cotton gin in Elk City until 1870 when he retired. He was a member of the Elk City First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 1 brother and 1 sister. He is survived by 1 son and daughter-in-law, Ramon and Lillard Armstrong, Elk City, OK; 3 grandchildren, Tim Armstrong, Guthrie, Oklahoma, Larry Armstrong, Elk City, Oklahoma and Janice Walters, Seminole, Oklahoma; 6 great grandchildren, Chris, Shane, Dirk, Amber, Brett and Bryan; 2 great great grandchildren, Chloe and Stormy and a host of other relatives and friends. Services were held ayt 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 6, 1995 at the Whinery-Savage Chapel officiating by Rev. Gary Harber. Interment was in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Elk City, Beckham County, Oklahoma under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service. Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, Ok
