Graveside services followed in Red Hill Cemetery, Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma with Leon Tomberlin officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home. James was born July 17, 1935 in Hammon to Boots and Jean Ackley. He grew up in Hammon and graduated from Hammon High School. When he graduated, he went to work for Santa Fe Railroad. He later married Dorothy Jane Devin. He enjoyed all the travel and the many wonderful people he met along the way working for Santa Fe. After enjoying working for Santa Fe, he had his own welding and oilfield business. He returned back to Santa Fe Railroad and retired from there. He moved to Amarillo to be close to his children. He went to work for Plains Transportation until health problems would no longer allow him to work. James enjoyed being "Pap" to all the grandkids and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Carroll Wayne Miller. He is survived byh oner daughter, Sharla Jane Trimble and husband Archie of Amarillo, one son James Buford Ackley, Jr. and wife Melynda of Amarillo; a special daughter Jennifer Kerstetter and husband Dough of Protection, Kansas; granddaughters, Janime Stoll and Leigha Trimble, both of Amarillo, Jamie Brogden of Briscoe, Texas, Kyleigh Bartlett of Canadian, Texas; grandsons, Shawn Ackley of Corinth, Texas and J.R. Ackley of Amarillo, Texas, T.J. Trimble of Sayre, Adam Ramos and Aaron Ramos, both of Amarillo, Texas; and many great- grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be made to either.
