Beavin, 68, Topeka, Kansas, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2003, at his home. He was born May 14, 1935, in Cheyenne, Oklahoma, the son of Paul and Elizabeth Flemming Beavin. Although he spent the past 28 years in Topeka, his heart was deeply rooted in Oklahomaa. He was considered by friends and family to be the number one O.W. fan, and was an "Okie" through and through. Austin graduated from St. Gregory High School in Shawnee, Oklahoma in 1952. He served honorably in the .S. Army from 1955-57. He attended the University of Oklahoma for two years. He retired from the Santa Fe Railway in 1990. He and his wife, Mary, enjoyed their home together at home with their two dogs. He was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Austin enriched many lives through his volunteer work at St. Francis Health Center, where he served in many areas: Eucharistic ministry, cardiac rehab, gift shop, mail room and transportation. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Elizabeth Beavin, and his stepson, John Grady. Surviving are his wife, Mary; two daughters, Jennifer Gurule, Westminister, Colorado, and Cindy Underhill, Auburn; one step daughter, Kerry Grady, Boston; five grandchildren; one sister, Paula Johnson, Burns Flat, Oklahoma, and two brothers Jerry Beavin, Nicoma Park, Oklahoma, and Howard "Pudge" Beavin, Chyenene, Oklahoma. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Monday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic VChurch. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Helping Hands Human Society, 2625 N.W. Rochester Road, Topeka, 66617, or to the organization of the donor's choice.
